Reading the preview - Forest and Blackpool will be the only teams that can do the double over Toon this season. Forest will be the ones with the most chance I guess.

Hadn't realised that WBA only got a point and played two more games, so that's all good.

Another great result. Hughton has really impressed me. Tonights game resulted in our 20th clean sheet, not often u can say that about a NUFC defence in years gone by. Intresting to note that the journalist interviewing Hughton said if we win our next two matches we will be promoted.

The last few games should be of no main concern  - just depends on the squad being injury free and united.

Hughton is a real saviour for the Toon, but probably still won't be fully accepted by the Geordie faithful.

I just hope that he is not dumped for some big name gaffer next season (but given Cashley is asking for wage cuts you wouldn't expect a lot of big names to be queuing up anyway).

Good opinion piece.  http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=764177&sec=england&root=england&cc=3436

I am feeling relieved more than euphoric at this stage.  Early days but hopefully another 3 points and even closer to promotion.  Plenty of time.

Half time. Toon should have been 3 up. Routledge muffing some good chances, Lovenkrands unlucky not to score from free play and Carroll also unlucky.

Sheffield only looking dangerous from the corners.

Not wanting to get into the debate about what consitutes a big club but this season the crowd at SJP has ranged from 36,944 (1st game) to 49,644 (vs 'boro).  Not quite full capacity (52k) but pretty impressive for the Championship league.

Hughton also wanting to push on and take the title.  He deserves it.

I would love to see Hughton take the title, would be a great reward and his first managerial trophy. Game was good, Nolans goal was superb. Loving the atmosphere in the team at the moment too, hopefully Ashley doesnt do something silly in the off season.

Cheers Tommy - can gurantee iraqgoals to cut out at least twice and sometmes so many times that i have to give up on the game.

On other matters - it looks like Spurs' Alan Hutton is being talked about as a possible (right) full back next season.  Butt is likely to be goneski and Harper's understudy Forster wants out to Norwich.

The other amusing thing I saw was this invitation to the Daily Express reporter to visit Tyneside:

" Dennis hasn't ventured more north than Watford, supported Chelsea in 2006 but moved his support to that other London club, Manchester United, last season."

That article was quite a laugh. Having a go at our crowds is ridiculous. St James holds a lot more than other championship clubs, maybe thats why it has the third highest number of empty seats. Cant see Hutton moving here due to him being on loan at Sunderland at the moment. He would be a relatively good signing though. I hope Nicky Butt does decide to hang up the boots, hes been past his best for sometime. Forsters supposed to be a good up in coming keeper, would be happy to send him on a season long loan. We have Tim Krul as the number 2.

what are expectatoins for next year? just to stay up? top half?

that article about ashley only giving 15m for transfers is worrying. kinda get the feeling you need to invest big this off season to make sure you dont find yourself in a relegation dog fight again

Would see staying up as the priority given there won't be much money to strengthen the squad.

Ideally if this is the case then Cashley can sell at the end of next season and someone will get a club with somewhat reduced debt but also be able to inject more pounds to allow the club to push on for higher placings in two seasons.

Perhaps with the currrent squad and team spirit there may be enough to survive in the EPL.  It seems that the corrosive player clique from the previous season has gone.

Barton seems to be keeping out of trouble so he may yet prove to be a good player for us in the EPL (PLEASE).  Carroll - was quick to get annoyed with him for decking Taylor following his previous assault, but maybe the Taylor incident was not his fault.

Aim in 2010/11: Stay up (and beat the Mackems).
Aim in 2011/12: Get a decent owner (and beat the Mackems)

From Footymad

Alan Shearer Perhaps Keanes equal in sheer bloody-mindedness, Alan Shearers superior self-control usually meant he had the upper hand when they locked horns. In September 2001, as United lost 4-3 at St James Park, Shearer prevented Keane from taking a throw-in. Keane threw the ball at Shearer, who called the Irishman a prick. Keane then tried to strike the striker, and Shearer pulled away leaving Keane to swing at fresh air ... but it earned the Irishman a dismissal in the process. Keane said in his book: "I wish I had connected!", Shearer said his HIS book: "He couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo!"
