Far canal...Had to trawl through n pages (where n = a very large number) before getting to this thread.

Anyway - good to see:

1. Th Toon record a point away at the expense of the favoured Baggies.
2. The minute applause at the start for Sir Bobby - a fantastic way to acknowledge the great man.

Interesting also to note when his passing was reported on TV the shots were mostly of Geordies despite the narrative talking about his stint in Europe and his England coaching.

The squad looks to be propped up by a handful of youngsters (proably all that Cashley is prepared to pay):

Darren Lough, Callum Morris, Ryan Donaldson, Bradden Inman (Aussie), Wesley Ngo Baheng.

Looks like a long hard season ahead and maybe some baptisms of fire for these young ones.

It's all been a right royal shambles and doesn't really look like getting a hell of a lot better in spite of the 3-0 win today. I thought QPR's management was pretty crap but Newcastle's made them look rather professional last season.
May be a chance for some of the youngsters to stake a claim. I like the look of Carroll.

3-0!! That's a good showing for th Toon.

I think the management at Newcastle made every other team's look professional! I don't know how long it will take to right (other than getting a new owner in ASAP) but at least getting rid of Midget Wise was a good first step (just took a season too long to get around to it).

By the match report it looked like Carroll was pretty handy and maybe Ameobi can develop a bit in the lower league.

Not a fan of Ameobi but hope he can build on his performance against reading.
Looks like duffer has gone..The squad is getting very very thin
Need a new center back, left midfielder and striker who can knock in 20+ goals for the season
if those signings happen and a manager is appointed soon, NUFC will challenge for promotion
Cmon another 3points this thursday!!!

No one but those of his "Cockney Mafia" would disagree with you Tommy, but I think while Cashley is the prime villain (I DO think he had good intentions but was so clearly out of his depth and meddled too much in the running of the club), there are others who had signficant roles in undermining the club.

The outrageous wage bill and no easy way out for the club to curb it or offload non-performing players really rankles me.  Typified by that mercenary Owen.

Player I felt really sorry for and was happy to see go to a better scene was Given.  Who do we get left with?  Blimmin jail bird Barton.

Anyway, new season, new league, good start so far...

Yep the Duff man has gone to Fulham.  Local Tyneside businessman a potential buyer and the Magpies playing the Owls tomorrow morning NZT.

Had a listen to that "21 or 28. Obafemi Martins" chant (fanchants.com) and thought that could be good for Super Leo Bertos (not the 21 or 28 bit).

Have you found an online link for the Sheffield game tomorrow?
Watched the first two games online but not sure if there's one for tomorrow around yet.

I will be so disappointed if Steven Taylor ends up leaving...Hes the only player with a bit of passion for the football club. Id love to see him captain

Interesting to see, that we are lined to Sol Campbell. Personally, i think he would be a bloody good signing for the championship.

No, sorry.  My home is on dial-up (me and one other subscriber still left in NZ).

I'm an interweb Luddite I am.

Is Taylor leaving?  I thought he was confirmed to play tomorrow.  Sol Campbell getting on a bit now but maybe the championship is a good space for him (or maybe the A-League in Wgtn?).

There is a lot of speculation around that Taylor has handed in a transfer request but Hughton has confirmed hes playing tomorrow. Yes Campbell is getting on but our squad is so depleted. We just need players desperately.

Also speculation around that NUFC are trying to resign lovenkrands

You might yet become a fan of the lad!  And he's local like Carroll.

Third on the table - only another 9 months to go to get back up to the EPL money land.

Butts back in and Carroll's in doubt. Hope we don't rush Butt back into starting eleven as the midfield is performing quite well. If Carroll's out i hope we give Xisco a go up front

Hopefully another 3points. Palace could be quite tough but they haven't beaten NUFC at home since 1984. They include Darren Ambrose - Former NUFC player.

Small match preview

If we're not careful Cashley will raise his asking price!

But what a start to the season - and done without most of the big names and bigger paypackets.

I just hope we don't lose Taylor.

The British media is saying that by tomorrow, we should know if Ashley has managed to sell the club. I doubt it though.

Junior, you will be happy, both Tottenham and Newcastle on fire and the Nix playing good football.

I am as happy as Mr Happy who's just been awarded a Bachelor of Happy from Oxford university.

This is a very pleasing time in my mid-life crisis!

Dream game which might cost my marriage would be Spurs vs toon in an FA Cup final.

I read on soccernet.com that the Newcastle squad is down by nine players (from last season) - that's a shoestring squad that make the Nix look like it has depth for Africa.

Hopefully a good Carling Cup win tomorrow but a couple of tough league games to come including Cardiff (top of the table).

The squad is very depleted. Looks like youths of Lualua, Ranger, Donaldson, Kadar will have to step up if no signings are made.

Cardiff will be tricky especially as it is away from home. Interesting to see the official statement put out on nufc.co.uk regarding the sale of the club.

Looks like a few new starters got a run around as we sneaked past Huddersfield.  Even Geremi scored!!

Dawning of a new era?  (hope i haven't jinxed the team now)

The young team struggled until Ameobi and Guteriez were introduced. Both Ameobi and Guteriez picked up injuries so the squad has got even THINNER.

Geremi scored a well worked goal and Guthries finish was tidy. Goals here if you havent seen.

Major injury crisis already for leciester. Guterriez, carroll, xisco and ameobi all look like they are out of the match. That only leaves us with one striker - young Nile Ranger.

Not good.

Maybe the Toon management will be on the bench like the Nix.

Any idea how serious the injuries are?

Leciester about to start.
Danny Simpson out of postion at center back, Collocini on ''international duty.'' Sounds like he will be leaving NUFC to me.
Xisco out on loan to. Crazy. Now only 1 fit striker in the club, Nile Ranger. Sh*t!!

Yes believe Taylor will stay with the club. As bad as Collocini is, im worried that he will leave. Danny Simpson did well at center back but we need four signings before the deadline. We will be lucky to get one.
Ashley wont be prepared to pay so loans and free signings will do.

Fu*k Hughton is only confident in bringing in one or two players...One being Lovenkrands. Lovenkrands would be a good signing but the squad is weak. Lost ten players and only gained one player  I suppose we can gain loan signings until November so thats one postive.Hughton is confident that no more players will be leaving though..

NOT GOOD - "Argentinian international Jonas will be out for three weeks with a hamstring pull, while five-goal Ameobi has a "stress problem" to the bone of his foot and will be out even longer."

The question is how confident are the players?

Have we got rid of all the prima donnas and under performers and now with a small squad all the grafters and journeymen see a chance for them to get game time and develop?

Is there a feeling that Cashley has already reached the nadir of club ownership and now things can only improve?

Given that Cashley is unfortunately short of the stuff and your comment above from Hughton, players leaving will just be one of the headaches for the club.  The injury list must surely be the overriding concern at the moment.

38k Toon Army rocked up to the last game - a reasonable showing but still way down on EPL crowds.

At the moment I'm enjoying the wins but long-term am still not seeing a glass half-full (more like a glass where some theiving b@st@rd has drunk half of my drink).
