Is this morally bereft or smart business?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/oct/09/newcastle-united-wonga-sponsorship

Is it any different from the gambling site sponsorships?

Crikey!  Just re-looked at the article and at the bottom is this ad:

Payday Loan in 4 mins

$100-$800 in your account as fast as 4 mins - Text or apply online!

That's even more ironic than an Alanis Morisette song.

Just googled Basildon United and it turns out that it is a real team:

Not quite Wickford/Chelmsford (my turangawaewae innit), but close enough (we often went to the baths at Basildon so that counts I think).

Life is a series of James Burke connections.

Interesting blog from soccernet  (in itself quite unusual).

"Jumpers for goalposts" indeed.  And if you buy into the blog's message then we should continue to focus on making games accessible for the kids.

Slightly connected in that football supporters may also be in danger of having a lost generation  too.

I think West Ham had other things on their mind, like staying up in or getting back into the first div/prem during the years Moore left.

Also Utd were already far ahead of the pack when it came to using the media in the 80's and appointed Charlton to help with the media and keep the fans happy, part of national domination.  From memory I don't really recall any other ambassadors at the time.

Harry mentions Beckenbauer but he was appointed ambassador or whatever in 93 so Moore was what dead/ill by then??

So I think Rednapp is talking out of his arse and making something of nothing

Hindsight is a great thing but I don't think it even occured to the Hammers to make a role for Moore while he was alive.
