On a more positive note, isn't it great to be able to flick to two different channels and have all sorts of football on. Not like normally flicking through sports channels and nothing is on.

Good times.

For those willing to pay but want an online option - buy a VPN subscription and register to beIN or any other provider through another country.

I'm seriously contemplating doing this for the next few weeks.

Any suggested sites that I should sign up to? Am I right in thinking BeIN Connect in Australia doesn't show the EPL. Maybe an American website or something?

If you're looking for live coverage, with an india VPN, starsports shows EPL for free.

Do you have a link for that.  I tried to find it the other day but could only see their coverage for the 2015-2016 season.  Looked like the website hadn't been updated for the current year.

Looks like you're right. You could try

so only half in HD, and 2 that I cannot record and watch on demand.

That pales to every game in HD, and on demand which we got with PLP. Really hoping BeIn connect brings it together, because currently it is not as good.

Personally I never got HD quality out of PLP anyway, so I'm not too concerned by that.

The lack of Bein Connect is annoying the hell out of me though.

GIMME!

No I certainly never got HD out of PLP either. Still interested in the justification for the channels not being HD when the footage is received in HD which Sky and Bein have not answered yet. Someone here said it's because Sky has to pay for HD bandwidth, so what's the justification for not paying for it for live sport when we pay for the HD ticket? Could understand for something like Jones or UKTV showing mostly old things that were not produced in HD anyway but surely it's the standard for live sport now isn't it? I suppose they would just say that to pay for any more they'd have to put the HD ticket up to $20.

There is no justification for the broadcasting of SD content these days, much less charging for HD*! -  other than a lack of competitive drive from Sky.

That's why they're are at risk if third parties attack and win off their sports rights. However, sports value comes from live coverage, and choice, rather than programming content. Younger consumers seem to value on-demand consumption, on any device. They have a hell of a lot of work to do to preserve their business.

*I reckon i'd be willing to pay additional for for 4K, if it was available.

It is a tough crowd. That's the market now. If Sky can't win the crowd over then bye bye.

Don't usually read the comments but this seemed rather insightful;

"Just like buggy-whip and typewriter manufacturers before them, Sky TV can hear the grim reaper carrying their business model off into oblivion as technology has changed the face of entertainment in the home. Sadly, like the dinosaurs, Sky's management have been just too old, slow and unwilling to embrace the changes before them."

I always got HD with PLP. It was damn good. So far this coverage is looking more expensive and an enormous after-thought- website not likely to be finished weeks into the season etc, etc etc...

More to the point, good internet content, like PLP, really showed up the poor quality over-compressed HD image that sky has foisted on the public.

The issue I had was my internet speed.

Pretty gutted tbh - I just upgraded 2 weeks ago.

Was only hitting 3-5 mbps before, now usually in the 30 - 50 range. Would probably get HD now!

Been the other way round for me personally. Maybe partly to do with internet speed on ADSL (Fibre has only become available to my house in the last month and I haven't got it yet), though I've had no problems streaming Netflix and BBC Iplayer for instance at the highest quality. Also probably affected by the way I had to get it on my TV with no app being available to me.

yes - fully admit I have 200mbps fibre, and that will make a huge difference to my point of view.

I am on ADSL and could generally run at HD, if it was a later game then I wouldn't but was awesome for the live early games, and never had a  proble with delayed (Though at my place my ADSL regularly hits 11mbps which is more than I should get...No fibre til 2019 though :(

How slow was it for PLP to get the content up on Sunday mornings though? If you didn't watch a match live it took forever to be available in Smart TV app. And highlights show was slow too. I used to watch via another app even though I paid PLP.

Just ridiculous the rose tinted glasses some of you have for PLP. I, for one, am happier with this years coverage. All day premier league. On demand through my remote. Yes please.

Ondemand in the Samsung tv app was definitely a weak point of plp. The need for a dish, set top box remote and a tv is a weak point of sky/bein right now

Unless you already have those. Some of us watch a wide range of sports and that's what sky provides. On my TV in my living room.

It certainly is a tough crowd, but the whinging is justified for the non-Sky users. We've gone from having access to EPL, to not having access - regardless of the quality of the stream. I hate streaming from illegal sites, it's usually crap so now I just wait for full games to be available to download and then watch them. That's as close to on demand as I'm going to get. Basically, if people without Sky can't view the premier league, beIN is an inferior product to PLP.

"I had two reactions. One I felt a bit disappointed because I'd said so whole-heartedly on the radio two days before [we found out] that it was happening. In hindsight it is to Sky's advantage, but certainly not one we saw coming or planned for."

Yay.

Soooo, what are my options? I don't mind paying and using a VPN - I just want a streaming service with perhaps an app so I can use my iPad. On demand and live.

Does this exist?

What a waste of money BeIN is, and for that matter Sky Sports too. I'm never going to pay for legal streaming in New Zealand. The service is so poor it's actually baffling.

Not sure if any of you have watched on line in the US but this is the NBC interface - a little further down is a highlights selection of videos too, but all in all a great interface.

Are you doing that via a VPN?

I'm using PureVPN with BeIN Middle East and its just too slow unfortunately. Bit of a waste of money on my behalf but would have been happy had it worked out fine. I also bought the wrong BeIN subscription. If anybody else tries this make sure you buy the package that gives you BeIN channels 11 and 12 as they're the English commentary channels.
