Granted, we fell off the pace with a pathetic 2 - 0 loss to Wigan on Saturday, but villa has been going from strength to strengh in recent days and if 5th spot comes up, we'd be obviously more than happy to grab it with both hands.
With 1 game to go in the season Everton are 3 points ahead of Villa but lacking in goal difference, are facing a resurgent Newcastle in the weekend while Villa face west ham....Interested? I sure am, in one of the best battles in the premiership this season.
Any predictions/comments welcome....
On another note, John Carew - One of the shrewdest tactical signings of the season? And if we get 5th spot (uefa) would Barry still be wise to leave? Would a minor mention in the story of a top 4 club be worth leaving a club he's capitaned to (1 last chance of possible) glory, under a great new manager? I can understand the deicision if we fail to atain 5th place but if we d, i'd say its a bad call to sit in a fancy stadium keeping a bench warm, lifiting siverware would be a bit of a different experience as a capitan of a club for 5 years or lifting it from the sideline....
especially when his england career is already booming, being touted as a possible capitan...

Villa needs love!

It'll never happen. Everton will beat Newcastle, Barry will leave and Villa will be cast back in to mediocrity where they belong.
Seriously though, it is a hell of a weekend ahead for so many clubs. This is why we all love football so much. I'm gonna move the kettle and toaster in to the lounge and watch as many games as I can. Which ones are sky showing?
Its no longer a problem.

Not likely, the blues will draw and that will be enough to secure 5th.... COYB!

Haha we'll see...even as Everton fans though wouldnt it be a beautiful way for the season to end? 2 outrageous upsets, Chelsea takes out the premiership and Villa 5th spot...Too poetic not to happen!

If barry does what he is told, then he is off to liverpool!
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=532510&cc=3436
good stance by o'neil on berger though. What do liverpool want with barry? do they want to be that boring that they have a team of defensive midfielders? they already have alonso and mash to take care of.

Barry replaces Gerrard who will either turn Russian or join a number of 'mystery' nationalities/clubs.

Yes good call there Gooner and what would Barry want with Liverpool on that note, leave a flourishing underdog team a past of gold he has capitaned his entire career to join a rich, bloated, poorly owned and managed 'top 4' club who has again failed to make any bid for silverware let alone the premiership? Ohhh cant wait for this weekend! VILLA FOR 5th and barry stays!
Gerrad to QPR and Torres to the Phoenix - You heard it here first!

Villa I feel with a bit more strengthening in key positions will be a much superior team to Everton, and I think they deserve 5th over the Toffees.

A good year for villa, won't get 5th. And come next year they are going to go back to life in 'limbo' neither in the top or the bottom, just somewhere inbetween.lol

Gutted huh! but yeah great year for Villa, we ARE a great squad this year, Carew, Young and Gabby have been a godsend and next year we'll be stronger and harder! Martin O'neil is a god and will strengthen and consolidate the squad...onward! to victory!!! +-NzVillan-+2008-05-12 18:06:53

and keeping Gareth Barry should be high on the list too, still you get to try for uefa via the inter toto so good luck,it'll be a long season, but you boys will be right.you have a great manager in martin o'neill

Yeah we do, it would be an understatement for me to say i love O'neil. Indeed holding Barry is a huge priority, perhaps the highest. But almost as importaint and almost as daunting is the prospect of losing either Gabby Agbonglahor or Young. Both came into great form this season, have been selected for England, and will no doubt be on top of a llot of clubs wish lists.
#1 Keep Barry,
#2 Keep at least 1 of those boys...
If anyone can convince them to stay, its O'neil, but i cant see us holding all 3 sadly.
