Smudger. I have just checked your profile. What on earth possessed a young person your age to be a West Ham fan. How come you didn't jump on the bandwagon with the rest of your school buddies and take a top 4 side. Never mind, there are a few of us around that will nurse you through the misery and heart aches of being a Hammers Fan. At least we do get some Highs from time to time.

Nah FA Cup round this weekend smudger. Should be a sure thing to make it through to the 5th round. (I say should be since this is West Ham after all).

P.S. Good to see you on here Smudger. As uiron said - post often, we need as many fans as we can get. And stay loyal, cos its one hell of a ride being a Hammers fan and you never know what to expect.

I don't really have a favourite...Green, Upson and Beharami have probably been our best this season. But yeah I always have a soft spot for the locals lads doing well for the club (i.e. Noble).

Best I've ever seen was DiCanio though. All class.

As much as we have some good players now, you boys need to turn the clock back a little, I still think about the likes of Brooking, Devonshire, Bonds, Parkes, Cottee, Pike and alike.

Thank god for the age of DVD. I've got 64, 75 and 80 Cup finals on DVD, so I certainly have some appreciation of how great those players were. But its difficult to choose a favourite player on just a hand ful of games. For that reason DiCanio remains my favourite.

I've always thought that picture of Noble on Hammerheads posts was him returning from a fishing trip and telling his mum how big the one was that got away.Maybe it was a small hammerhead

Woke up at 1.30 am to watch live stream of the match, but couldn't get it work. Had to resort to score updates instead.

Sounds like a typical Cup clash and one that we would have possibly come unstuck with a season or two ago.

Shame that Cole couldn't convert what sounded like a couple of good chances and make it six games in a row, but great to see Behrami on the scoresheet, and even better to see Sears get a runout.

I don't think Dyer got a run. I know he strained his leg in a reserves match in the week, but lets hope its nothing too serious. If we reach QF stage and beyond we need players of his calibre fighting fit.

What I also think we need is a genuine quality and experienced striker. I don't know alot about this Nserenko guy but I fear that Zola may have got it wrong with DiMichelle, and he can't afford to get it wrong again. What's Owen worth? Then again do we wan't another injury prone striker on the books.

Collison and LBM could perhaps keep playing on the left until end of season.

[QUOTE=Hammer Head]

Craig who???

(P.S. Dyer came on as a sub in the last game too).

[/QU

OTE]
Dyer wasnt even on the subs bench against Stoke so I cannot see how he managed to come on and play against them. He did play for the reserve team though but reserves dont count do they.

Crowd only 6848. We would have had a fair few of those.

Notice Upson "rested". He also missed the Barnsley game and is therefore not cup tied. (More to come next week perhaps?)
Neill was on the bench so I dont know whether that counts as cup tied or not. He didnt play against Barnsley either.

Still, good result and Joel Porter, he who wanted to play for the Phoenix this year, didnt score.

Role on round 6. Draw 7.15 am Monday NZ time.
Sheffield United at home would be something to get our teeth into.

Middlesbrough at Upton Park in the fifth round. That will do.

Sheffield Utd v Hull City
Watford v Chelsea
West Ham Utd v Middlesbrough
Sunderland or Blackburn v Coventry City
Derby or Nottingham Forest v Manchester Utd
Swansea v Fulham
Liverpool or Everton v Doncaster or Aston Villa
Cardiff or Arsenal v West Brom or Burnley

Its getting to the sharp end now and we're pretty lucky to have dodged the big four (or five if you  include Villa) thus far . A replay of the 2005/06 Semi (or QF??) awaits. I still get goosebumps thinking of that winner by Harewood. This year I genuinely think we loom as a dark horse in this comp once again.

So, lets be a bit presumptuous and consider that we beat Middelsbrough and progress to round six.
Going on form, we can expect the following teams to make up the eight.

Sheffield Utd v Hull City
Watford v Chelsea
West Ham Utd v Middlesbrough
Sunderland or Blackburn v Coventry City
Derby or Nottingham Forest v Manchester Utd
Swansea v Fulham
Liverpool or Everton v Doncaster or Aston Villa ***
Cardiff or Arsenal v West Brom or Burnley

*** Liverpool, Everton or Villa are all much of a muchness.
I would feel comfortable drawing Sheffield, Fulham and Blackburn, which only leaves four tough ones out of seven names, all of whom we can beat on our day.

Yeah, we could have a cup run this season.
See Mullins could be off to Pompey for 2 mill.

Not happy about Mullins leaving (if true). He's the perfect holding midfielder every team needs on the bench and he will be almost irreplaceable in my opinion. Sure we've got Collison now, but how many times has he been to Wembley or faced a last day relegation match? We need Mullins to stay, and if he does go then they had better have a special player lined up to come in.

I think through the players we have on our books and there isnt anyone who we can call on to settle a midfield for the last 20 in the way he does. If anything happens to Parker he would be in. Noble doesnt have the ability to do that job and neither does Spector.

Mullins is one of those backroom boys who just goes out there and does it.

We do need to take into consideration that this rumour was started by the Daily Mail who are West Ham's least favoured sources

Perhaps this is the replacement
Stephen Appiah, currently on trial at Spurs bt a free agent.
He earned the nickname Tornado due to the fact that he is very dominant in midfield and is also very strong. A combative player, Stephen Appiah has a strong engine and good tactical awareness. He is an all-round box-to-box midfielder who is able to defend as well as create and score goals.

Mullins to Pompey has been confirmed. I've heard a couple of people mention Appiah now so hopefully theres some truth in that too (plus would be great to steal him from under the Spuds noses).

On a brighter note we have signed Savio Nsereko from Brescia for 7.5m pounds. Thats quite a lot for such a young player. His goal ratio is just 20 games and 3 goals, but clearly Zola, Clarke and Nani have seen enough to think he's worth shelling out for.

So suddenly we seem quite flush for strikers: Ashton, Cole, Di Michelle, Tristan, Nsereko and Sears. But with Ashton out for what sounds like the rest of the season I would assume DiMichelle continues to partner Cole with Tristan or Nsereko on the bench (I assume they wouldn't loan out a player of his value?). My concern now is the quality of striker we have partnering Cole (DiMichelle and Tristan have plenty to prove); and what happens to Sears? He came off the bench last weekend so they obviously value him. Lets hope he finally gets loaned out to a Championship side and comes back to the club with the reputation we crave for.

Big sacrifice replacing Sky with a son, but if he turns out to be a Hammers fanatic like his dad, then maybe it will be worthwhile in the longrun.

Looking through the postings they seem to give regular updates from a Hammers Fan point of view rather than the greedy journo comments you get from the local rags.

My wife wouldn't accept Paolo or Bobby, so we ended up naming him Scott (which co-incided with Scott Parker being signed). So long may Parker be in the side. Actually he was named Scott mostly due to the fact we lived in Scotland for a few years, but at least there is a faint West Ham link.

Hull City. The last time West Ham played themat Upton Park was in 1990 when we won 7 - 1.

I remember a sub coming on for Hull, a young Maori guy by the name of Harry Ngata. Yep same one.

First touch he hit a shot from outside the area that cannoned off the crossbar. That was it though.

Actually there were a couple of new ones recently but they seem to be resting at the moment. Even HK Keeper is quiet and Sir Trev. Saving ourselves for the big run in for Europe.

Savio been cleared to play this morning.
This new Czech International from Spartak Moscow, Radoslave Kovac who  we have signed on loan looks the goods. A fullback who also plays as a holding midfield player, 30 and tough.. Apparently AC Milan were after him at the beginning of the season but then they got Ivanovic. We can get him for 4 mill and that seems likely.
Dump Bellamy, buy Savio and Kovac, sell Mullins leaves us 2 mill up for the week.

I didn't realise we signed him on loan? Sounds like theres a few clubs chasing him but they also reckoned it could become official today (uk time), so hopefully he can agree personal terms and an announcement made overnight.

Not a bad deal by the sounds and I'm not too upset about losing Mullins if he's as good as everyone thinks.
