Ive been Dying To Ask This One To You Guys!

This question is based at everyone and it has to be an event that you either went to or watched somewhere. it cant be an event thats been told to you by your dad!

I will start you off with mine.

As an Arsenal fan, Ive been luckier than some to of witnissed some truly amazing games in some very wonderful places. But I would have to say the day that tops them all was when we beat Newcastle in the FA Cup Final to secure the double. I was lucky enough to get a ticket for the game, and to be honest, the game passed me by really quickly, and i remember it most for the wrong reasons. as I was begging Wenger to bring on Wrighty after we were 2-0 up with about 13mins to go. He didnt, and I remeber saying to my late dad, that i didnt care if the board sacked him after not letting the main man who had just become the record scorer, say a goodbye on the pitch at Wembley infront of his beloved fans.

But what will be remembered most about that day, was ringing my then girlfriend, and telling her that i wasnt going to be home that night. a group of us went straight to Highbury, where we slept outside the ground all night, so we could be in the best position when the boys went on the civic reception on the Sunday. Funniest memory of that night, was when some of the more drunk fans took a red bus hostage outside Finsbury Park Stationb, and drove it up and down outside the ground, and then they took it back up to Finsbury Park Station and set it on fire, which was really stupid. but I guess football and to much beer and the excitment of it all got the better of them. From what I remember, they did ask all the passengers to get off of it before they took it hostage!

But being on the 1st 50 fans outside of Islington Town Hall, gave us a huge vantage point to see the boys coming on there own open top bus. I didnt see the girlfreiend until Monday morning!, she wasnt that happy if memory serves me correctly.

This isnt an Arsenal thread, this is for all of us, as maybe some of you guys greatest day may of been when you toppled us. im sure the Wrexham fans out there would say that.

Ciao

Partick Thistle 4 Celtic 1.  Scottish League Cup Final -  23rd October 1971. Celtic team who had been in the European Cup final the previous season were taken apart.

We've had a few promotion winning games which were great, best was probably when we won promotion back into the Scottish 1st Division a couple of seasons ago.
We played Peterhead in the play-offs. After going down 2 - 1 at home in the first leg, it was 1 - 1 in the second leg when we scored in the last seconds of the game. 2 - 1 win, 3 - 3 on aggregate, and we went on to win 4 -2 on penalties. Maybe not as glamorous as winning the Champions league but I can assure you it felt every bit as good

Even though that 1998 Double ranks right up there due to it being the first double achieved since I had been supporting Arsenal (1978), the win at Anfield on 26.5.89 to win the old 1st divison on goal difference is my greatest ever moment.
I'd been supporting Arsenal for 11 years at that stage and we'd never come close to being Champions in that time. There were also some lean years during the early 80's as well.
I vividly remember going to my parents to housesit their house and getting up early to watch and video the match. Back in those days, apart from the FA Cup final, we didn't get a lot of televised full matches and I think Sky TV was still a few months away.
When Michael Thomas scored in the last minute and did that silly celebration it was a totally foreign feeling to me to know my team were champions. Have never forgotten it.
Hence my auto signature.

Hull City beating West Ham 1-0 in the fourth round of the FA Cup (not up there with some of the finals etc but a big day for me as a city fan)

13 years old, my dad on one side of me, my grandad on the other, 1973

McKechnie, Banks, De vries, Kaye, Neill, Knighton, McGill, Houghton, Pearson, Wagstaff, Butler

Ken Houghton got the winner, tears pissing down my face

Ken Knighton did the damage in midfield

great day!!

Hang on, didn't you beat Chelski 3-2 in the FA Cup some time in the early 70's. That's the result my dad always went on about.

Three for me, and two for them.

In the 70's I don't think Chelski existed, there was a similar sounding team in London called Chelsea, but beating them at anything wasn't considered a significant achievement.

Hibs greatest moments

beating Hearts at Tynecastle, New Years Day 1973, 7-0
beating Rot-Weiss Essen 4-0, in the 1955 Fairs Cup, the first game by a British Team in Europe
1968, beating Napoli 5-0, with Dino Zoff in goals for the Italians
1962, beating Real madrid 2-0 at Easter Road
1961, beating Barcelona 3-2 at Easter Road

Games I've been to

1991 League Cup Final, after beating Rangers 1-0 in the semi, (just missed the goal due to traffic delays getting to Hampden), beat Dunfermline 2-0 in the Final for the first silverware in 19 years.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

For me personally, it would have to be the '05 Champions League win against AC.

After sinking into a depression by the end of the first half (much to the enjoyment of the Toff watching it with me), six sweet minutes of brilliance turned that all around.

The tension was there right up to the end, with Dudeks double save at the death, and crazy armed heroics during the shootout.

Mucho good times...

Yes, you did, and I was there when it happened. You beat Notts Forest at Brisbane Rd in (Correct me if im wrong) the 3rd round of the FA Cup, it was during Frank Clark's time as manager. I cant remember if Cloughie was incharge of Forest, and I dont remember the score, again im sure that you will remedy that for me.

You also beat the famous Millwall on Satuday and by all acounts took a good crowd.

You ave a great little club there in East london, with a team of football players, unlike some of the businesses in the premiership, don't be so glum Jam and you ain't wet spam.

3 May 1997
Hereford 1 Brighton 1 (Robbie Reinelt 62)

It was the first time in the history of the league that two team meeting each other on the final day of the season met with league survival at stake for both of them - though it has happened again since. For Brighton, having been raped by a fraudulent owner and no longer with a home of their own, defeat would mean falling further down the pyramid than the Conference (who had confirmed our ineligibility to enter) and in all likelihood it would have been permanent extinction. We'd been bottom of the league for 206 days until the week before, been 12 points adrift at christmas and with only one away win all season.

You can keep the league titles and the champions league wins and the cup finals and promotions. We came within minutes of not existing anymore (for the second time in two seasons - the season before we'd been 5 minutes away from being expelled from the league).  And we got a new owner that week to get rid of the conman.

That train ride back to Brighton was a beer fest. Chelsea fans that we bumped into when we changed trains were buying us all the beers we could drink.

The only thing that's ever going to come close is if England ever win the World Cup!

On Brighton's behalf then, you beat Hereford 2-1 in April 97. After the ding-dong between us and you that season in that 4-4 draw at the Goldstone, it seemed strange to be cheering on the Orient. Someone in the crowd had a radio and the whole North stand celebrated your goals as they were reported.

Were you at that 4-4? Amazing game. We were 2-0 up and then you came back and made it 2-3 with a treble in just a few minutes. There was quite a ruck as Carl Griffiths had been getting treatment in front of the North Stand and got into some verbals with a bunch of fans. Then when we equalised to make it 3-3, Griffiths made it 3-4 less than a minute later. He ran over to the North and gave us all the finger with each hand. Some idiots in our lot took that as provocation and three "fans" went on the pitch to get at him. Ray Wilkins was playing for you and seemed to think they were after the ref, having missed all the action with Griffiths, and made some demands for big punishments after the game. The remaining thousands were screaming at the three to get off the pitch - we'd already had two points deducted that season for an on-pitch protest the previous season. A fourth "fan" hopped over onto the pitch then changed their mind and came back to the stand. The fans forcibly handed this chap over to the stewards - think he got a few slaps on the way. We finally equalised with a penalty with a few minutes to go, but what a game!

glasgow rangers:

winning the 50th league title on the last day of the season when we were level on points with celtic and we had 1 goal better difference in the end up, we won the league by won goal, that was in season 2002/03.

latest though:

beating werder bremen in the UEFA Cup to progress to the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup for the 1st time in history and being the only british team left!

Odd that a Rangers fan doesn't name winning the European Cup-Winners Cup in 1972 in a 'Club's Greatest Day' post but mentions qualifying for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup instead. I'm sure Celtic fans would have 1967 in their lists.

Still, what do I know!

I've only ever sen The Os play live once, and it wasn't that game. It does live on in the memory of a lot of Os fans though, as does Supercarl Griffiths.
Yeah, the Hereford win kept you in the league, didn't it? We did the same gracious thing for Burnley a few years earlier too.
See what I mean? No highlights of our own. Two promotions and a cup semi in all the years I've followed them. And, of course, to balance things out, more than a few relegation seasons. It's tough at the bottom....

For me it has to be the 1988 FA Cup 4th round game against Tottenham at Vale Park. I remember Jimmy Greaves making the classic quote that the only problem Spurs will have is finding the place
They we managed by Terry Venables and had players like Waddle, Gary Mabbutt and Neil Ruddock (replaced for Ozzie Ardilies) in the side. The pitch was soaked as it had rained heavily but over 20,000 people turned up. We beat them 2-1 and I remember staying after the game ended for ages to celebrate the win!!!

Inevitably, FA Cup Final 1978 - had everything.  At 11, I was the perfect age and the only Ipswich supporter at school.   Great to be personally congratulated by all and sundry.

Woking

WBA 2 Woking 4 FA Cup 1990

1 - 0 to the home side at half time and we agreed that if we keep the defeat to 3 or less, then that would be dignified.  Then Tim Buzaglo went nutzoid with a hatrick, sending us travelling Woking supporters into delerium.  Brian Talbot (WBA manager) was sacked afterwards.   Des on MOTD said to Tim Buzaglo - "look what you've done now!" or something like that.   Best day of football I have witnessed live.

What about your 1981 UEFA Cup winning campaign???  I'm just trying to erase that 78 Cup Final memory That was actually the first FA Cup final I ever saw and I was 10 at the time and it marked the start of me supporting Arsenal.

The 1981 UEFA Cup was a great thing - but I didn't get to see any of the games in the dark hinterland that was the pre-SKYTV  world.  If it was on the telly (which I doubt) - my mum would have exercised her armchair veto and watched Absolutely Anything Else.
