Of course he's had money, for the previous 15 years they've been the richest club in England, just the last few seasons Chelsea's had more. Club with the most money is most likely to win, thats what professional sport is all about.

A dog with a bone :)

I'd say Moyes, or Alalrdyce too. Two managers who've done really well with clubs previously struggling. Not a huge amount of money to play with, and still squads with many less known players. Imagine what these guys could do with money-bags or talent like Mourinho and Fergy have access to.

It's hard to know what managers would be like with extra cash, as it involves different skills.

I reckon most Prem managers would do very well with Mourinho's millions -  Infact I think I'd struggle not to win.  It's hardly a risk buying Ballack, Chevchenko, Cole etc, players of their callibre they will always bring 'something' to a squad.

He's a filthy JockManc and so full of whiskey he'd probably burn for a week if he was ever accidently set on fire, (I can but dream) but Ferguson is clearly the best manager by a mile.

It might be a struggle when you don't know his last name starts with an s, but anyway.

Most lesser club managers choke with big name signings, especially when they have no experience with them before, like at WH.

Got to be Moyes.  Turned Everton around from constantly battling against relegation to challenging for Europe. Rammtallica2007-04-26 22:33:28

I suppose Paul Jewell should be mentioned - keeping Bradford and Wigan in the EPL on those budgets.

Good point - but then maybe Steve Coppell enters the mix as well

What about Hughes?  Plenty of astute signings for little money, and some good success at Blackburn.

Best three:

Martin O'Neill  (see next season)
David Moyes
Steve Coppell

In the cases of the big clubs, everyone sees the high profile manager but in fact they are really team jobs with three or four quality people running the team.  Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal work that way. At Villa, Everton and Reading they are mainly on their own so the success and failure is more their responsibility.

Noone's mentioned Rafa Benitez??

Ok, he has more money to spend than Big Sam and Moyes, but I would rather have Rafa than those two.

Yeah it seems that having teams finish 7th place on the ladder with a small budget is worth more than actually winning trophies.

Keane need a mention to go from 23rd in the championship to winning the league. All of those hours playing CM have obviously paid off. I would expect him to keep them in the Prem next year, he seems to have the pulling power to get good players to play for him.

However, overall I think

Jose Moaninho

Mourinho is on a hiding for nothing - wins the title last year, 2nd this year with a Carling Cup and an FA Cup final to come, and still people think all he can do is spend...

There's many a manager has spent a fortune without winning anything - Kevin Keegan, Bryan Robson, Roy Evans, Ged Houllier, Souness at Newcastle, Dalglish at Newcastle, Bobby Robson at Newcastle, etc.

People seem to forget with Mourinho that he was a pretty successful manager prior to joining Chelsea - at a time when he wasn't dealing with billionaire chairmen.

That said, best in the Prem has to be Ferguson, simply because of all he's achieved - not forgetting that he proved over years in Scotland that he could manage without money.

Has to be Fergie - look at his record - 9 titles - doesn't get any better than that - and he keeps winning - this title in his 20th year in charge - that's some record.

Martin Jol looks like the sort of guy you see propped up in a public bar drinking a jug of Red, rolling his own and complaining about "bloody Asians taking over the country".

But I think he's a very astute manager, and one of the most honest in the league. He's the man to take Spurs to the next stage, I feel. He just needs another striker to better complement Berbatov. Defoe is not quite a trophy winning player and Robbie Keane is consistently inconsistent. He's either on a scoring run (ten goals in ten games) or a drought (no goals in ten games) with seemingly no inbetweens.
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.
