As a reminder going into the last round, here are the points on offer for the pre-season picks: Top 6 in order (5 points for each correct placing) Bottom 3 any order (5 points for each correct pick) Arsenal top scorer (5 points) Arsenal top assister (5 points) Liverpool top scorer (5 points) Liverpool top assister (5 points) Chelsea top scorer (5 points) Chelsea top assister (5 points) Leeds top scorer (5 points) Leeds top assister (5 points) PL Golden Boot (5 points) PL Golden Gloves (5 points) Total possible points: 95
And here are everyone's picks:
Everyone had City winning. Otherwise only Paul and Leeds stand any chance of additional points for the top 6 depending on where Man United finish. Not a lot of points on the bottom 3 either. Only Paul had Southampton while Kwlap, Texas and Leeds can still get points for Leicester or Everton.
Fark. I missed the United game - 29/05 03.30am Arsenal 2 MO 29/05 03.30am Newcastle 2 Wilson 29/05 03.30am spurs draw. Son 29/05 03.30am Liverpool 2 gakpo
I was just comparing our final round picks AJC, and our season predictions, and its so bloody close! Any number of results or final goal/assists in the last round could end up being the critical results for each of us, it's pretty crazy that its this close after the whole season. I think technically I am ahead as of this minute, given the ManU result this morning, but I suspect it will swing back and forth through the minutes of the final games!
It's very close. You got 3 more points on this morning's game but I currently have 10 more points than you in the pre-season picks that are confirmed so far. However, you have Havertz as Chelsea top scorer which I haven't counted yet as it could still change in the last game (he's on 7, Sterling on 6), and you have Man United which is still to be decided. So there's another 10 points possible for you and I have no further pre-season points possible. It's going to come down to results in these last 4 games.
Sorry for the delay in getting the end of season results up. Been busy this week but sorting through it now.
Rounds 37 and 38 Man United 4-1 Chelsea - MOM Fernandes Arsenal 5-0 Wolves - MOM Xhaka Chelsea 1-1 Newcastle - MOM Gordon Leeds 1-4 Spurs - MOM Kane Southampton 4-4 Liverpool - MOM Jota
Everyone picked Man City 1st but noone else got any other position in the top 6 correct. Only 2 people (Paul with Southampton and Kwlap with Leicester) picked a team in the bottom 3. Team top scorers and assisters was a mixed bag. I managed to get the most points of these picks with 25 out of a possible 40 picking the Liverpool top scorer and assister, Chelsea top assister and Leeds top scorer and assister. Leeds and Kwlap got the least with only 5/40 from these picks. Everyone picked Haaland for golden boot and noone picked De Gea for golden glove.
Remarkably it came down to the final weekend with only one point separating Paul and I. A dire last round cost me in the end as last season's runner up overtakes last season's winner in the final round and Paul wins by 8 points. Paul picks up his third title while ajc28 will be gutted to let a back to back title slip in the final round having held the lead. There was also a good battle for 3rd with Detoxin taking it. He may rue missing round 28 which could have got him closer to the top 2.
In true Arsenal style I let it slip at the end having led for a chunk of the season, got overtaken by Paul then wrestled the lead back in the final weeks. Blew it in the last round. Picked a draw for Arsenal-Wolves, but deep down I probably didn't really believe we wouldn't win with the pressure off and Wolves also not playing for anything. But felt pretty despondent after we didn't put up any sort of fight in the previous 2 games so just couldn't find any sort of positivity and made a pick I probably didn't really believe.
However it was Leeds-Spurs that ultimately cost me. If you saw my original post I had put down Spurs 2+ but later edited and changed it to draw as I thought Leeds at home fighting for their lives would go for it and get something. If I hadn't changed it I would have got 8 more points and we would had tied. Like goal difference, the tiebreaker would have been pre-season picks which I won. But great battle and pretty awesome that it went down to the final game still with everything to play for.
OMG! Can't believe I pipped you at the end, pretty crazy. Michael Thomas style ;) Thank you so much for running it Ajc. I must admit I dont think I will be keen to run it again next season, my life has changed a hell of a lot in the last year and a half and I'm off my feet busy most of the time these days (but in a good way). I've actually stopped watching almost all sport except Arsenal, and am loathe to admit I even missed a handful of arsenal games this season, which is very unlike me. If you are keen to run again Ajc, I will however participate, as that only takes a couple of minutes a round, and I really enjoy it still. Again, cannot thank you enough for taking the reins, it would have been sad to see this die. Although we only have results back to 2014, I'm pretty sure this has been running since around 2010 I think, maybe even earlier? Its proper historical now!
Congrats. Got your Fever Pitch moment at the end even if Arsenal didn't. Yep I'm happy to keep running it as long as people want to enter again. Unfortunate that we don't have any record of results prior to 2014/15. I think that may have been my first season doing it but it had been going for a few seasons before then.
Yea its unfortunate we lost that. The arsenal fan base on here was so big and active back then, that they created our own sub-thread for us. When they upgraded platforms and migrated the threads, it didnt fit with the new structure, so they dropped it and created a single thread for us again, and we lost that history sadly. I searched and searched and searched but could not find evidence of the results anywhere, so it has been lost to the sands of time.
I could see before the last round that for pre-season picks I was ahead, and at worst we'd be level if Man United came 4th (so an extra 5 points for you). So for the last round the smart move would have been to just wait for your picks and copy them, ensuring we'd get the same points and you couldn't overtake me. But that's just not in the spirit of the game so I picked first. Should have trusted my gut on Leeds and not changed it, but somehow the history of the Tottenham ensures you can never rely on their games.
Thank you for running this and congratulation to the winner paulm. After leading right up to the world cup I can only say I'm disappointed in myself. My fortunes were tied in with my Liverpool picks post world cup, I was optimistic they would turn it around every week and unfortunately it never happened until too late. I also expected Arsenal to wobble earlier than they did and the least said about Chelsea the better. Enjoyed it and look forward to next season where hopefully both Liverpool and myself can put in full consistent season.
