I'm not a Spurs fan and he was/ is a good player. But I cannot believe that they payed 16 million pounds for Darren Bent!! Cracks me up every time I think about it

he may come right, but 16m is a huge waste of money on a player like bent. consider that cristiano cost united 12million, adebayor cost arsenal 3million, van persie around 3million, anelka to chelsea for 15million. the list could go on and on. berbatov is imo much better than bent too for the record, you dont win big things with guys like bent as your top strikers either.

Yeah, and hindsight is a great help to your side of the argument. All the players you mentioned - Anelka excepted - were bought for their potential, not what they were doing at the time, hence the cheaper price tags. Darren Bent was bought for his ready-made ability, and although he's had a rough first season he will come right this year. It's no coincidence that his best form for Spurs has come since Jamie O'Hara has been in the team and Huddlestone and Jenas have been given a kick in the arse by the new manager. O'Hara's crossing and dead ball use alone have made a big difference to Bent already.
Regarding Berbatov, when he's in the mood he's unplayable, total class. But it doesn't happen often enough, he goes missing too much and seems to pick and choose his games. He needs to sort out his attitude to realise his potential, and if he does he'll be one of the best in the world. His vision and touch are superb.
And to suggest Nicolas Anelka is a better buy is absurd. Just wait until towards the end of next season when the plonker becomes "unsettled" again.
