Serbia now insist it wasn't their fault.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/9097259.stm

Karadzic blamed the violence on poor organisation by the Italian FA.

"The FSS Executive Board is unanimous in the assessment that it was up to the Italian Football Association to organise the match properly," he added.

DENIAL????

The context behind Serbia's football hooligan problem
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/europe/9097434.stm

The identity of the perpetrators of the violence in Genoa which led to the suspension of Tuesday's Euro 2012 qualifier between Italy and Serbia has largely been established.

But there is much speculation in Serbia as to their motives.

There is talk of a cocktail of right-wing extremism and organised crime and of the deep hatred Red Star football fans feel for the president of the Serbian Football Association Tomislav Karadzic.

Members of the 'Ultras Boys', the most violent supporters of the Belgrade team, don't normally travel to the national team's matches in such numbers and their conduct before the match and at the stadium can be explained by their desire to create trouble and problems for Mr Karadzic and the SFA.

Definitely gonna go for an all nighter for these matches.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

May not quite work out that way. According to my calculations, Austria v Germany ko is 6:35am and Belarus v France is 6:50am, so there be some changes (or my info is out of date).

Watch this (or that) space.

I know, I know, its serious!

Just checked espn.com.au for listings.

I hope your spelling is up to scratch Azevo, because it now looks like Scripps Spelling Bee (oh, yeah!) is on at 4am, with the Anschluss derby now on at 6:30am. Belarus v France comes after that delayed. Sky have yet to update their TV guide.

I know, I know, its serious!

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

I said last time that they wouldn't qualify (and they didn't), and I'll say it again this time (and they won't).

They will - not because they're anything special, but because the rest of their group is mud.

The way England are playing, it could be close for top place, so they could go into a playoff. Still a fair while to go of course before coming to many definite conclusions.

Close for the first place with who?

Montenegro have a couple of good players, but are really punching well above their weight at this stage - they have to play Wales and Switzerland away, and England at home, a lot of points to be lost there.

The Swiss are a decent side, but they're already a good way behind - 6 points behind England at this stage, meaning they'll have to win all 3 of their remaining games (Bulgaria and Montenegro at home, Wales away), and rely on England getting less than 3 points from their last 3, since they've already lost the head-to-head with England, which is the first tiebreaker.

Bulgaria - in the same boat as Switzerland (probably a bit weaker as well), and would require wins over England (at home) and Switzerland (away) which is a big task for that side.

The most likely scenario is that these three sides will all take points of each other, and England will go through first, even if they don't play particularly well.el grapadura2011-06-07 18:11:22

ok, in a previous thread i commented on an observation i made that every time there are euro qualifiers on, ireland ALWAYS seem to feature for some reason on the games that are televised on espn.  in case you think i'm talking rubbish, i just want to point out that there is only one euro qualifier on tv this week from the current crop, to my knowledge. oddly enough, it happens to be ireland v slovakia. oh, and irishman tommy smith with a Y is commentating.

why oh why??? of all the teams in europe, why ireland always? is it possible that an irishman at espn has influence over this?

just putting it out there. please feel free to enlighten me.

Hmm, not really a crazy result - maybe just a surprisingly one-sided one. But Slovakia is a pretty average side, they'd already lost to Armenia in the first game between the two (think it was 3-1 to Armenia), and let's also not forget that this Armenian side also beat the Ruskies in this group, and are well in the running for the second place in the group.

Not exactly: Russia beat Armenia 3-1 at home and drew 0-0 away.
Russia had enough great chances to score against Ireland but failed to do it at least once. So they lost an opportunity to win the group right now.

Very true. For some reason I thought the 0-0 had been a 1-0 to Armenia.

Also heard that Russia had some unbelievable misses in the game against Ireland. Still hope they qualify directly, they are easily the best team in that group.

How on earth did Ireland end up seeded? Hopefully they draw Turkey and get knocked out by a handball.

See they also had their fair share of referee assistance in the game against Armenia, yet no-one is asking for a replay...

So. Turkey in the playoffs. Time for some sweet revenge f0r 2008.

Also, massively relieved to have avoided Bosnia - although would like them to knock Portugal out this time around.
