Technically it might not be France in the semi final, there have been a number of upsets in the tournament and games not won by the expected team. I suppose it also rides on them beating a spirited Morocco team who have knocked out Belgium and Spain aswell as finishing above Croatia in the group.
I'm hoping for another Moroccan boilover. They may not have the cup pedigree and star quality but there is a case to be made that of the teams left in the comp they have been the most consistent so far.
Not sure if that's going to be enough against Portugal though who seem to have shifted into a higher gear at the just the right time, while Morocco might struggle to be physically and emotionally ready in time for their game.
I don't know a lot about tactics but when you are defending a 1-0 lead with four minutes remaining and you allow a 5 on 4 attack resulting in a goal then you have massively fudgeed up.
Once it went to pens it was always going to be Croatia.
Messi doing what Neymar couldnt and taking control of the game and creating goals. Fantastic touch to get passed his marker and finds an inch perfect pass to Molina for for goal!
How long before goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic gets snapped up by a bigger club. Only 27 and currently playing for Dinamo Zagreb.
MOTM? Awesome result Croatia. One for the little guys, after their great run to the final in 2018, can they do it again. They seem a side with big mental toughness & self belief.
Grant Wahl, the journalist refused entry (USA V Wales) for wearing a Rainbow T-Shirt & who has been vocal in his criticism of FIFA/Qatar over the migrant worker deaths unfortunatly died whilst covering the Netherlands v Argentina game.
I thought Argentina were due a few second yellows. An incredibly unlikeable team.
really? of both those teams I thought the dutch were the worst, some of the physical challenges early on were clearly attempts to injure, Beside the overtly physical stuff though it was a good game, some really hot heads on the bench.
Neymar not stepping up to take the one of the first three pens is odd! Especially when the first is missed and he still doesnt step up.
probably wanted the 5th for the glory
yep, I thought he was holding out to "Be the Man" or "Be the Hero" and f--ked up in his face badly. From Hero to Zero and questions asked why he did not step up and go first.

The Dutch were hardly saints. The pitch invasion by the entire Dutch bench was an absolute disgrace and confirms for me that subs/coaches/staff are allowed far too much leeway in running onto the field at the drop of a hat.
Not that I saw any of that live as I stupidly went to bed in the 80th minute thinking the game was all over!

Lol, what? Following a really shark tackle, the Argentine booted the ball at them after the whistle blew. Should've been double yellow if not straight red. If there was any discipline in this game then Argentina would not have finished the match with 11 men.

that dutch charge was in reaction to the argentinian kicking the ball straight at their bench, the ball was in play and needed to be cleared so hard to say he intended to do it, he missed all the players so again hard to justify that reaction when noone was hurt. Dutch were angry from the first whistle.

I got heavily downvoted on reddit for saying it was still in play! I think the whistle might've already gone.
Dutch were probably angry because Argentina did what Argentina has done this whole tournament and spent much of the time on the ground.

whistle may have gone but not long before the player hit the ball out of play. the reason the argies were on the ground so much is down purely to the tackles the dutch we making, bodies were flying in from everywhere.
Dutchies only have themselves to blame for the loss.
Neymar should have stepped up to take an early penalty instead of holding back for the glory moment. I get having a good penalty taker last but your big star and best penalty taker should be stepping up first and getting you on the board like Messi did IMO. If you don't score the first 2 you're probably not getting a 5th one. We've seen it with Ronaldo before too waiting for the glory one and being out before it got to him.
I can't fathom how you've come out of that game with the opinion that Argentina was hard done by the referee... each to their own...
Let's face it, no one's squeaky clean. The amount of play acting and downright cheating is so prevalent across all teams (ok yes, some more than others) that nowadays I just roll my eyes and block it out, otherwise it would ruin my enjoyment of what has so far been a brilliant WC. Bench pitch invasions should be stomped on though. Absurd that you get a straight red for the heinous offence of taking your shirt off but it's OK to run onto the field and push, shove and abuse players. Handful of red cards would fix it instantly.
Fantastic stuff. I've watched quite a few world cups down the years but I can't think of a finer win than that one. For a team of rank outsiders to repeatedly turn over top football nations with such grit mixed with flair is incredible.

A few reds for play acting and talking back would also do wonders. I wish football followed AFL or rugbys lead on how players are allowed to engage with refs. It is also why I’m loving the womens game atm the mo, it’s got all the football without the bullshark.
