Hatty is the bomb. There are nealry a million players
worldwide and it is constantly changing. You choose what you
are training, you have a budget, extend your stadium, tactics,
formation. It is such a multifaceted game and because of the
dynamic nature it is always interesting. I am in Div 5 out of
6 and sitting comfortably in 3rd. It takes a while to get anywhere
so you are best to look long term.
Look for my team The Swede Eaters. I will give you a
friendly if I can.

Hey Scottie!
I'm a Hattrick player too.
F.C. Opoho Villains if you're looking for competition/someone to thrash.

Nah, I disagree. When you first get up and running a bit of time has to be taken, however half way through my 1st season (this season!) I may only have a quick look 2/3 times a week. Just gotta organise them friendlies.
I have heard of people spending hours but the most timely thing is the ebay-esque trading of players. Other than that only a few mins to organise that friendly and your match orders and you're done.
As I can't be arsed shelling out each year for Champ Man it's a good substitute.
If anyone wants a friendly search out "Upper Hutt disUnited".
