You don't set a marquee, your highest paid player automatically is excluded from the cap, thereby becoming a marquee.

wow cares about cap? i have a squad of 33 (10 ineligable) and am like 20k over the cap a month..

I am on 2nd season and only have 21 registered because I am paying my new recruits too much, but oh well who cares, here's my first results:

Friendly (Away) Vs Celtic - 4-4
Friendly (Away) Vs Crystal Palace - 3-1
Pre Season Cup (Home) Vs Sydney 4-1
Pre Season Cup (Away) Vs Newcastle 3-0

I must say I am happy, especially being 4-1 down away to Celtic at halftime, and coming bac for a draw.

Yeah that sucks, you will have to make do with your Aussies, imports and greyed out goal keeper unless you still have Spoonley...

yeah made me end up dead last. Had only Brownile as my striker and some iraqie guy who was crap. (thanks Genie).
 
Released half the squad so in debt but buying a fair amount of players on frees from aussie.

Look  through clubs from Serbia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania etc, takes ages lookingh but you will find some gems.

I should show you who I have found, I have got, try this guy last name I think is Nowacki, I have him CAM, brilliant.   and a decent keeper is Stojkic.

I have signed these guys and they are great.

Smeltz is crap, he played whole season, got 1 goal and 4 assists!

Salary cap is a joke. Can only have 19/23 for new season,

Signed some top quailty imports. Hondarus' Pavon is banging them in in preseason.

SB, are you using the latest patch? There's some weird stuff going on with the Nix in the first release.

On formation, I've been using a 4-4-1-1 to reasonble success.

I also concur about the eastern european players, my two biggest stars are a striker who is the captain of the Romanian U21s and a Serbian playmaker who is like 18 and easily the best player in the side.

EDIT: Forgot to add that if half the squad is called up for an NZ friendly during the league I remove the first XI players from the NZ squad via the friendly instructions.

Do they stay in my squad until bought by another club?

I'm having a problem.....

I released Brownlee and Dodd on a free however the game shows both of them in my squad, problem is neither of them have squad numbers and the game won't let me give them squad numbers. the game won't let me start a match unless everyone has squad numbers either. Also there are no Transfer options in either players profile.

The A-League is rather botched in FM 2008.
