playing as NZ?? I haven't found how to do that, it only lists major
nations plus a few others, like Aussie ... I've settle for
England
and yea the salary thing is annoying, I have a squad of 23 but
could only register 16 for the season, and when players get injured
its hard on the team, in the first game against the Victory I had
one sub plus Paston ... using the Editor is a good idea to
edit the salaries but what happens when you want to sign new
players or even re-negotiate contracts, where the player would want
more money?
Alright, found the problem here lads. Some players had no currency assigned so it has defaulted to pounds (f**king stooopid if you ask me) for them when amounts should have been Aus $. This is screwing the cap.
It WILL be fixed in the first patch. Farken !!
One other problem HN I noticed and that is when foreign players
such as Daniel come to Phoenix, instead of working towards NZ
citizenship they work towards Aussie.
Cheers.
Excellent point.
Also, the Oceania Nations Cup is slated for an overhaul for 09. I doubt it has been touched in years.
Hard News2007-11-15 15:13:43
I suspect Daniel will still head for Australian citizenship at this
point as well, we raised it but it won't have been changed
yet.
It appears to be. Daniel has the NZ thing in his profile rather than the AUS one.
New patch is out, seems to fix the wage issue.
I can only get 20 players under the cap, not all 23. It's better than the 16 or whatever it used to be, but still not quite there.
Also, it's nice to see that Jardel is one of the heaviest players in the game yomcat2007-11-23 16:56:36
I would expect 09 to be out mid August. Final data load is Mid Spetember but we should have test versions to the researchers in the next week or so.
Are you involved in FM 09 in some way HN?
How?
I am the Head Researcher for Oceania and an Assistant Researcher for Australia.
So you can get me a free copy then?
WOW, congrats on the pick up, dude.
I put 08 away for a while.... this thread is giving me the itch to give it another shot with my beloved 'Nix or Man City. Maybe I can save the blues from mass Thai instigated club suicide??
HN, glad to see you are an official researcher mate, your posts are very informed.

HN is there any chance of having decent stats for the A-League players. Most of them will have a fixed CA, and PA (or perhaps a -6/-7 type variable rating) but the actually stats (pace, crossing, tackling, technique etc) are often assigned randomly (they are given as 0 in the FM database). For example Lochhead may end up with a crossing stat of 6, which is clearly not a very good representation of reality.
go to sigames.com. You can by it for downlaod from the makers
there.
Hey HN. I've been playing with 08 as NZ a fair bit now.
I'm dissapointed that in the game Reid appears to have sided with
Denmark, same for McGinchley etal... BUT I have discovered some
pretty good kiwis playing in Iceland (dual citizens). I
wonder how good these guys are in real life, maybe Youth NZ coaches
should give them a look.
You know, I've wondered as to whether NZ Football have ever
used FM's data base for scouting as we seemed to have known about
players like Reid before NZ Football did.
Yeah. it's a bit ugly like that. Because of the U-21 thing vs
U-20 there really isn't a way you can have a player play U-20 for a
nation and then declare for another nation at Senior level.
We've asked them to change it to suit what the rest of the world plays rather than just Europe but no joy.

Hey mate, if you start the game properly (ie don't use the
helper thingee) you can choose the size of the data base whether to
include all kiwis etc and chose to manage any international team as
long as you chose to have the game load all players from that
nation.
When I start new FM games I like to have all of the available
leagues in the UK (England, Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland), the
A-League and a token European, Asian or American league running
with all British and Oceanian players loaded. Makes for a
very enjoyable game and when I've had enough of one league I just
go manage in a different one.
oh right, well the first time i started the game, I included the
A-League (as i was managing the 'Nix), also included the Serie A
and all the British leagues (not Scotland or the like), I never saw
the option for choosing any international team though, I must go
back and have a look hehe, I don't use the wizard either ...
cheers mate

seems even when i change the currency to au dollars this happens :(
When i got to my second season in charge of the 'Nix, the cap rose,
then I could pick the majority of my team
It's not ingame, it's in the database. So you need to edit what
currency their wages are in. IIRC, that's not possible except with
a patch.
There will be a patch in the next few weeks that fixes it.
Promise. Should also fix positional issues and release George
and Cleberson at the start of November.

I know with an unofficial editor I can change this but it is
irritating especially if I'm not playing as A-League but want the
players there to gain NZ citizenships for when I eventually manage
NZ.
Had anyone here won the A-League with the nixs? If so did u get to
play in the Asian Champions league? I know the FFA wouldnt alow
this, Truth is AFC had no issues with the nixs playing in the ACL
it was the FFA (football Fed Aus) choice. Anyway plz let me know as
i cant manage any club for the life of me. (got sacked so
maney times) convict2007-11-15 22:03:32
I started the game as NZ (just wasted Saudi Arabia to qualify for
the 2010 WC) and have come to the second OCE nations cup and it's
in the Solomons again. Anyone else find this?

Excellent!
That Daniel and co thing never occured to me, I agree it should be changed.
Was quite annoyed to find Reid declared for Denmark as well.

New patch is out, seems to fix the wage issue. Unfortunately they
haven't updated the A-League player database properly, (Aloisi is
with CCM but George and Clebs are still in the Phoenix and we don't
have Reese). Thankfully it's pretty easy to make the switch via the
database editor (Reese gets pretty nice stats for a CB). Chris
James is available on a free _b
Hardly a surprise. The last data deadline was Monday and that
has the changes.
The change you have is from around the week that Aloisi joined Mariners. I suspect Daniel will still head for Australian citizenship at this point as well, we raised it but it won't have been changed yet.

Also, the positions haven't updated. So Daniel and Christie and
stuff have bad positions.
Yeah, that was in the data load that went up Monday... or if it
isn't there is an Adelaide fan and Queensland fan who will be
getting some words from me.

i got football manager 08 for the PSP for my christmas, i love the
fact the phoenix are in it, top class!
they have daniel at left back, i thought he was a winger? also
felipe campos, i was wondering who that was then i realised its the
main man felipe!!
Football Manager 2008 PC version can be found for $50, half price, at EA games sale at the moment.
Anyone planning some rehab and desperate to drag themselves off this addictive junk? If so, I'm looking for a second hand copy. PM me.
A few on Trade Me.
If you get it, make sure you download the patches otherwise the Phoenix salary cap is stuffed.
It will be MUCH better in 09. Hard News2008-07-18 12:11:48

OK so when's 09 scheduled for release in NZ? I can hang on if it's going to be much better. you see the situation is that I lost my FM 06 disc and ahve resorted to Champ Manager 1998ish, and although Juninio is actually good the novelty of having him, Keane and Becks playing for Charlton is rapidly wearing off....
Right, Getting FM 08 delivered this week. I downloaded Champ Manager 08 demo to see if it could tide me over till FM 09...hell it's worse than FM 06!

Got it, started unemployed for a lark. Got signed by Central Coast, threw a spanner in the works by signing some lightweights, transfer listing and generally pissing off some of their key players, finished bottom of the table and resigned after applying for a stack of clubs.
Spent some time in the wilderness before being picked up by Darlington in League 2. Took out the league (signed free agent Richard Johnson who became a fave with the fans) and am now three games into staving off relegation in League 2 with a new crew including Mark Paston as my reserve GK.
It's going to be a tough season ahead!

Sadly the fans reckon Paston's a dog after he gave away leads in two tight games. I'm on an 8 game unbeaten streak with a stack of draws. They're questioning some of my other signings, including Ramsay of Cardiff who I picked up for only 10K (much cheaper than the 4.5m+ Arsenal paid him).
