I played back in the 1970s with two teams  - one was Norwich City and the other was Everton.  I wasnt much good.
12 Apr 10:25 · edited 09 Sep 04:55
I was playing today.  It's got to be the best footy game that time forgot.  Probably one of the best sports games ever I'd say.

My local team want me to take a set down to our ground so the young 'uns can play while their Dads kick cobs out of each other.  Should be a grin.

What is this?

12 Apr 11:16 · edited 09 Sep 04:55
It's a table footy game. It's brilliant, great with a gang of mates and a few stubbies.

check out Subbuteo on Wikipedia or try the site that sells it here in New Zealand - www.nztablesoccer.com

These are two of the first teams I ever got.  The thing with it is you don't have to be good to enjoy it!

Take GoldenBalls he's lousy in bed, but his boyfriend still enjoys it.

Just got my Grand-dad's set when he passed away in November. I'd heard about Subbuteo, but never actually seen a  set. Me and a couple of mates played all summer long. It's awesome fun. Kiwill had it right, don't have to be good at it for it to be a laugh.

Cheers. sorry about your G'dad.

I've had some great games over the years.  Trademe has Subbuteo/table football - I bought a set from there recently.  There is a fair bit on there just now.

Had Subbuteo when I was a kid.  Somehow lost the rules before I was old enough to read them, and never knew how to properly play it.  That didn't stop me enjoying it.  Must dig it out next time I'm at Mum and Dad's...
27 Apr 01:02 · edited 09 Sep 04:55
If you get ever round to digging it out Dragon just pm me and I'll send you the rules.

You guys are losers!

You don't know the half of it! Me (Everton fan) and my mate from next door (Man U fan) would play over and over again. we even made a little FA Cup out of cardboard...

I stepped on my keeper one day and so replaced him with a leg off of one of my Star Wars figures.

Good times!!

Golden Balls was obviously just crap at Sub. and chatted up his mates sister instead!

I used to have Poland and try to replicate the good old days.

Always loved the fact that the South Americans had dark skin too, and the scots were pastey white boys!

Hey I played Subbuteo back in the late 70's and so did my sister.  We loved it. In fact I still have alot of mint teams that I got from a tip to the UK in the mid eighties! Hung up me Subbuteo teams in 82!  Got no use for them now.  might try and sell em!  Help to pay off the Phoenix Gold season membership I bought on 2nd July!!!!

My brother and I had stands, light towers, fences and camera crew as well. Always tricky to get back and use the keeper if you moved way upfeild i remember. We got a team (cant remember which) and painted them as All Whites! Glory Days!topiary2007-07-16 21:34:38

Yeah we had a grandstand and floodlights and TV tower, fence with advertising, coaches bench with subs, corner flags, photographer and those funny corner kick figures and grandstands!  I used to hate losing to my sister.  Come to think of it, hated losing fullstop!  My sister and I used to beat the guys all the time and they hated it!Aghhhh those were the days!  My sis doesn't do anything sporty these days! But I'm a sports nut!

it was a great game, me and a mate down in Christchurch would play it for hours, kept a few excercise books with teams, scorers, bookings etc.

we invented some rules - if a fouled player was moved an inch (yep it was a while ago) by the impact of the foul it was a booking, 6 inches a sending off (livened up the games!)

the great thing about a booking was that the ref (who was both of us arguing frantically) had to take the free kick (no advantage)- hence the subbutteo professional foul was born  -you just mash someone down his defensive end and his attack would be stuffed -more arguements - great stuff

we let the defending team build a wall for free kicks, but the attacker could lift the ball over the wall - you just lightly held his head and the flick would arc through the ball and send it over the wall

haha the hours we wasted !

Richard Williams - if you are still in nz 32 years later, Ed says hi (and Hull City are still a better team than West Brom - the table does lie!)
