What a difference between the 2 games.

This one's like getting a blowjob from your mother-in-law: Slow, akward and something you don't want to talk about with your mates.

Japan: To score a goal, the ball must pass completely over the goal line between the goal posts and under the crossbar

God i hate the term "recycled". They are retrieving or regaining the ball. FFS

They're playing a bit like Oz - doing everything right except putting the ball in the back of the net.

Wow, what a great way to spend six hours! Would never have picked UAE in a million years but I'm glad they're through.

Korea and Oz have the extra day's rest and only played 90 mins.

UAE and Iraq have just played their guts out and won;t have much time to recover.

This is Oz's tournament to lose now.

Looking forward to seeing UAE tonight, they had some young awesome superstars at the Olympics a few years ago but were unlucky. We saw their quality against the All Whites not long ago. They could be a good dark horse this tournament.

I am getting a UAE top soon. They are my new Yugoslavia.

Congrats, really thought you'd done your chips when Japan equalised.

UAE defended heroically. Seems like middle eastern teams are always being criticised for being flighty/lazy/mentally weak but that was as brave a team effort as I have seen in a long, long time.

Japan played UAE off the park really. Even Omar Abdulrahman struggled at times when pacy Japs nabbed the ball. Japan were the best team in the tournament. Australia different kettle of fish for UAE. Cahill up front more dangerous than what Japan had tonight, but I think UAE could hold the ball better against the Aussies. If it goes to a shootout surely Omar can't yet again go for the dink penalty, I can't believe the Japanese keeper didn't know it was coming.

Young team too, well away from peaking. Watch out 2020 World Cup. Lucky to win really, but then, unlucky to lose to Iran game before who they dominated but couldn't score against. I reckon the toughness came from that a lot of them have come through the yoof together. Were unlucky in the Olympics, I'm so happy to see them come through. Wish they'd gone 2 up off the scooper assist. I love the scooper so much.

Speaking of the dink penalty, how about Iraq captain Mahmoud. He's Iraq's usual penalty taker but has been scared off them after missing his previous two (one a botched dink, the other one blazed over the bar). Yet there he is in the shootout, smiling and strolling casually up to the ball, then oh so calmly dinking it in, after which he laughs and shakes the ref's hand. Super cool!

Didn't see the Iraq game which sounded amazing. Glad they beat Iran though. Soooo gutted I didn't multi UAE & Iraq. Might do in semis though!

Last night was just a fantastic night of football. The Iran Iraq game was probably one of the most amazing games I have every watched. The big noisy passionate crowd added to the whole thing. Considering that these two countries have fought bloody wars it was not surprising that there was going to be loads of emotion.......what a match

Gutted Iran are gone so we can't have a repeat of that glorious night in 1997.

Three for me, and two for them.

Those $5.75 odds on Iraq to beat South Korea are looking pretty tasty imo.

This night still haunts me so much that to this day I have been unable to watch a replay or even match highlights ( or lowlights). Fudge you serial cod Peter Hore!

I found the flogging of Arsenal 8-2 even funnier.

Me too, as I have no emotional engagement with Arsenal.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
