It just pisses me off that people even care about corruption. 4,000 people are going to die in making the stadiums. Whether or not it was a corrupt process just isn't relevant.

Spotlight now turning on Australia's failed $45 mill bid acc to Fox News latest.

If they were involved ( I just don't believe it) they were very poor at it as they only got one vote.

The fact that Qatar got any votes, says it all to me.

This is going to turn into a massive deal that FIFA  won't be able to sweep under the carpet. In the last 4 years, the topic of Qatar getting the WC has been a talking point. Russia I am not so fussed about because they can actually host a WC. They should call them or bluff: so these air con stadiums yeah?

I've haven't really kept close to this issue but this could have large repercussions.

What if clubs force the issue (contracturally) with players amounting to choose club not country?

What if the clubs tie up FIFA in the courts (not sure which jurisdiction)?

What if the richest clubs actually follow through with the talked about a break away league?

Sepp and his gang may well have FIFA'd it up badly.

It could make World Series Cricket, ICL, Super League and World Rugby Corporation look like tiddlee winks.

FIFA is still too powerful, I think. I can't see any breakaway being successful. I still don't see how you can bid for a World Cup in June/July and then get one in November/December.

No doubt in my mind, this will be the worst fudgeing world cup in history. Even if we qualified, I would not make the trip.

In some ways it could be nice to attend. Most of those countries are good at hiding the sharkty parts and putting on a show. All the stadiums would be close to one another so you would really feel that the World Cup is happening. It would be like the 2011 RWC except way, way better and way, way bigger. I still hope it flops though.

I don't think I could enjoy myself in one of those stadiums knowing how many migrant workers (slaves) died to build it.

What is happening with the talk of a break away league? That MOU was due to expire 2014.

In respect of the above, FIFA windows always come first so talk of a 'contractual obligation' by the clubs wont hold because FIFA will get out the ban stick. From a sponsors point of view, do you want your brand associated with any controversy? (and lets look at Champs league and EPL to begin with) I suspect they would quietly slip away cause they pay money for their brand to be associated with good stories, not bad ones.

The only option they really have is to negotiate (and they wont win that) or break away. It would be a very drastic and extreme measure to break away so I suspect this is one where the clubs will have to unwillingly grease up and grab the ankles.
