There are so many positives to come out of the performances leading up to, and during the World Cup, not going to pick holes in what players "could have/should have" done.
My only comment is I wished we could have played a more attacking midfield, knowing we needed to score goals to progress.
Let's just revel in their accomplishment, and get ready to greet them when they get home.
Despite the eurphoria, I am totally with AR that a more attacking midfield, in the last game, would have left me with less of a sense of 'what might have been'.
I would have been happier to see Herbert at least replace Vicelich with wee mac for the last 15 minutes and go for bust, but clearly Ricki must not rate him that highly. Hoping that something was going to happen up front through a set piece was wishful thinking.
A nagging gripe, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

He is a central midfielder. And he is good going forward, something that we needed vs Paraguay. It was a huge effort from the lads, i'm just saying it is a little harsh McGlinchey not getting a taste of world cup football.
Too many if onlys and unanswered questions for me. Having got a euporhic ride for the first 2 games I was hoping to see a "last 16 or bust approach" at least with 20m to go..surely they had a spy watching Slovakia Italy with a cellphone and knew by about then it was do or die..that was when attacking midfielders should have come on and caution thrown to the wind. To not get any? corners in the last two games was criminal really.
Great to see emotion at the end and heartfelt feelings about the campaign.
Thanx for the efforts all...
A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen
true, i recognised him from a random chat about football outside a dairy in Newtown during the HAL play-offs' weeks
great effort, great team
and yep at 4 a.m. i wondered if we should have thrown caution to the wind earlier - but I'm thinking Ricki/Brian/Raul would have had their reasons and give where thewy and the players took us, i'm coming to terms with some of the 'what ifs', and 'maybes'
Proud As!!!
Allegedly
I was listening to Piney and Miles' commentary yesterday morning. Absolutely brilliant as usual. Loved how Miles spoke of how special this world cup was to Piney. He even got a pic of Piney all teary eyed.

All their commentaries were superb, the Italy game especially. So much tension as they were willing the clock down. At the end Miles chokes up with relief and happiness.

I'm also fairly certain that if we had gone all gung-ho in the game and lost 3/4-0, everyone would be now saying why didn't we just keep things tight at the back and try to sneak a set-piece/aerial/counter-attack goal, that was our best chance of winning...
