Too easy.  In more ways than one.

f*ck me. St. Harry scores. Harper loses it. Looks like I'm going to have to mute the telly.

No surprise this is it?
2-0 Australia.

2-0 Halftime.

Australia looking surprisingly comfortable, despite 1/3 of possession.

The Uzbek coach has proven to be tactically astute so far (this tournament), I wonder if he can change things up for the second half.

You can have all the possession you want but if you can't defend and can't create a decent chance you will probably lose.

I'm a little surprised.

Sitting here, one thing that has struck me is that there's been no real 'star' for the Socceroos. The older heads have done well - Schwarzer, Neill, Cahill, & Emerton particularly, but there's been no young Kagawa, or Koo Ja Cheol type standout.

One minute I'm thinking that a number of guys have been unimpressive, but then thought that maybe they've just got on with their jobs and it's been a consistent, solid team effort.

One or two, particularly Carney have been inconsistent, but no-one has been truly awful. The only worry is that while Japan and Korea have had a number one young guys have outstanding tournaments, the closest Australia have had is McKay in the last couple of games. 3 of the 4 guys I mentioned at the top are in the twilight of their careers, and ready-made replacements in their early 20s aren't coming through, or getting opportunities. Of the second string, Mackay has done well, but North has looked out his depth when he's come on.

The big worry is the lack of goal-scoring forwards - Kewell has converted well from a winger, but there's a heavy reliance on Cahill's goals from midfield. Where are the young Aussie strikers?

2 minutes after I write that, on comes Robbie Kruse
And then Carney scores to make it 3-0

On the plus side, I can go to bed now, which just as well as I have a very early start tomorrow.

I know FIFA rankings aren't the be all and end all but maybe this is why Uzbekistan are rated 82 places behind Australia and 45 places behind us.

Kruse has scored a shocker

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

He made a bit mistake by playing too deep and allowing so much space between the mid-field and defenders.
Uzbek had a lot of possession but never really looked like scoring.
I thought it would be a very close game.
Japan will be much harder.

I haven't looked up earlier in the thread (or elsewhere on the board), but any chance of the final being live on TV here in NZ. By my calculations the final is 4am Sunday NZ time, and with no premier league, there are "filler" type programmes in there already (non live stuff - Oz cricket, ironman etc).

Might give our friends at sky a nudge. Anyone else tried?

I know, I know, its serious!

Gotta say it's terrific to see A-League players making an impact - even if it's Kruse - but especially McKay who i've always rated but never saw as someone who would make the step up to international level. Shows that the league is better than many give it credit for.

Doubt they do.  Would cost a lot and doubt more than 10 people would watch.

Sounds like there are some good internet streams for it though,.

Indeed there are lots of web streams for this tourney.

Great to see the likes of McKay and Kruse do well. I for one do not agree with the doom-mongers regarding the future Socceroos lineup at all. McKay and Ogmonster's great form suggests that the A-League can produce players that can cut it, Kruse displayed his potential last night, and who knows what level the likes of Oar, Leckie, Antonis etc will be at in four years from now.

In the meantime, Saturday night should be a corker of a game, and hopefully the Green and Gold will be lifting some silverware.

If you had not seen both games it would be hard to describe.
If you did see both games then perhaps you should take up watching another sport.

Uzbekistan are shit. They'll get found out by Japan.

The general reaction on 442:

"We're world class again".
"We overwhelmed the Uzbeks with our skill and power".
"We so good it should be illegal".
"The Socceroos are ready to roo the world again".
"The Uzbek goalie was intimidated by the skill and power of Robbie Kruse".

It's all left me speechless and in LOLS, tbf.

Not sure what you expected on an Oz forum. Most probably know zip about football. If the position had been reversed and aussie logged on to this forum, I'm sure it would have been similar.
If fact if one checks into the game thread before a Nix game and after(if we win)you get the idea that us kiwis can be similar to the aussies.
I personally can't be bothered to see what they say or think. It only winds people up.

I wish we were in it.
The standard is a lot higher than oceania and would give the AW's a much better standard to play against.
We will be able to gauge where we are when we play Japan/China in March.

Japan is a tough ask but China are even more sh*t than usual at the moment. It is basically a development squad (youngest average age at the Asian Cup) and they were beaten by Qatar .

I think Uzbekistan had a decent tournament, but a bad night a the office. Perhaps they didi't have depth. Their keeper (naserov?) and attacker Geynrikh, who'd both been impressive, were out injured.

China are focusing on developing a side that will get to the 2012 Olympics, and then WC 2014. This tournament was a step on that path for them. I thought they showed some potential.

As for the final, I've no idea who's going to win. I think Japan and South Korea have been the best sides so far, but Australia drew with Korea, and have been improving throughout the tournament.

Not necessarily, some underwhelming results from friendlies played at home recently - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_national_football_team

Sorry this should be in the All Whites thread.

I'm not biting Buff.
In the AFC, but although has quite a large Asian population, they are not Asians.

Keating thought otherwise.

Also why would "Asians" necessarily want Japan to win?
