Oz defence looked shaky there.  That'll give the Iraqis hope. Stevo2011-01-23 03:16:34

McKay had a couple of chances but Kewell should have finished that

What a chance there for the yong Iraqi.  Muffed it.  Is this still the Australian "Golden Generation" btw?  Geez.  Jedinak unleashes.  Straight at the keeper.

What a chance for Ohgenosfski.  Heads it straight at the keeper from 5 yards out.

Either Jedinak squeezed that Iraqi's nuts on the way past - or he's acting.

The winners of the next Oceania Nations Cup should be invited to participate at the 2015 Asian Cup.

Deserved win for Aus there.
Need to work on their finishing.

Kewell did a "Winston".  OZ: 1-0 aet.  Was only half-watching, but Iraq did seem to have a huge penalty claim in et, and several other big chances.  But it was not to be.

Absorbing game, Australia deserved the result, but Iraq played well enough to have snatched it at anytime.

Australia v Uzbekistan in the semis. wolfman2011-01-23 05:13:51

Good evening Sanday.

Yes.  We'll I spose.  Not exactly a peace loving-bunch - but they'll have to do.  And we know Drongo's Son  will be hiding under the couch, scared sh*tless, reliving all those gr8 lol memories, until they're knocked out.

0-0 Fulltime. Extra-time coming up, but I need my sleep.

Korea had the first half, but Iran have had the better of the second.

And the fouling continues and only one yellow each.

Nice goal for Korea.
Should have fouled him.

The ref finally got the third yellow out for Iranian time wasting/faking injury/refusing to leave the field after injury or some other reason.

Know how you felt Wolfy. I went to a game, came home watched Oz and saw most of Man Utd's 2nd half. Saw a bit of the Korea game and fell asleep.

I still fancy S.K to win this Asia Cup.
Oz did enough to win and they were a lot better than their last game. Iraq are still a pretty good side and going forward they always looked good.

I was impressed By Australia last night too.
I think both semis will be close, but I'm going to stick with my prediction of an Uzbek upset, mostly because I'd already made that pick, but also because I don't Iraq are in that 'top drawer' Asian group. Australia were more dominant against the likes of Bahrain and Iraq, but against Korea I think they had a few weaknesses exposed.
Japan v Korea, Japan of course. Partly because I share Stevo's aversion to most things Korean  (Lee Hyo Ri a notable exeception), but I also think that while Japan haven't set the tournament alight, they've shown immense character to keep coming back against opposition who've set out to thwart them first, and to beat them second.
Korea will attack them, which may give Japan more opportunites.

Hi. Thanks for calling me a c..t on YF the other day. You're a hospitable bloke. Ill remember to shout you a beer when I get over there one day

As Ive said elsewhere of late, on-field the Nix have been doing well and letting the off-field stuff go, whether you like it or not, theres off field stuff there and it has a right to be discussed. But take nothing away from their current on-field form

I'm not sure, but according to some over there you and the rest of the YF backroom staff are 'in bed' with the 442 moderators

I hope you wear protection, they seem a pretty feral lot over there.

Dingo's Son and the "off-field stuff".  A man's desire to annihilate the Phoenix.  His desire that we should lose to Bahrain becoz NZ qualifying wuz a "no-no".  His petty selfish desire to terminate everything that is NZ football, and indeed it seems, everything Kiwi.  Let's be honest: the only "off-field stuff" that should be discussed in this thread - as I see it - is OZ in Asia.  Getting a little bit sick and tired of sticking up for the Ockers, as the Asians I'm hanging around with seem to think Oz is only here for a free world cup lunch ticket.  My argument that Australia/"they're not even Asians" playing the likes of India, Iraq and the Uzbeks makes the football world a happier place is not exactly winning them over.  But what am I sposed to do?

It is a bit tricky but the North Africans that play in the African Cup of nations(althought it is part of Africa) are mainly Arabs not African.

Right lads, back to the football.

Semis tonight:

Japan v Sth. Korea

in the early match, followed by

"They're not Asian" vs "They're White too. How can they be Asian?"

On a positive, warm fuzzy note the AFC and Qatar FA are going to donate the gate receipts of both matches to flood relief operations in Australia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Looks like another long night without sleep.Apart from these two games, Blackpool v Utd on live at 5am.
Thats a great thing by the Qatar FA and AFC.
My pick is Oz and S. Korea.
