Looking 4ward to it.  Hope OZ smash Sth Korea.  Interested in Bahrain's performances.  Qatar for the LOLs.  Just wish NZ could be a part of it, really.  Had to explain during the WC to a Korean housewife how Australia became part of Asia.  She was not impressed: "They are absolutely not Asians!"

Would you say this same comment if Australia was not there?

Err...Yeah.  This tournament has a lot going for it.

After waves of fanatical Jap atacks - they equalise in the 92'.  Nice ball/header.  1-1 FT.

Final score:

Jordan 1-1 Japan
Japan snatch an equaliser in the 92nd minute. Credit to Jordan, they parked the bus well in the second half, and the cynical dives, "injuries" and time-wasting were notably absent.

Japan were dominant, but only had a few clear cut opportunities. Probably a fair result in the end.

Halftime: Syria 1-0 Saudi Arabia

Yet another deflected shot from the edge of the area (Jordan v Japan, China's first v Kuwait). Almost identical to China's effort last night, except from open play. Ball crossed in, cleared to edge of the box, volleyed back in and a defender lunges in and deflects it past his keeper.

Both group B big guns (Japan & Saudi) having to work tonight.
This one is much more even though, and Saudi are going to have to lift their game to come back here.

Final score: Syria 2-1 Saudi Arabia.

The first upset of the tournament (Japan at least got a draw).

Saudi came out swinging after halftime, and got back to 1-1 on the hour mark. However, their joy lasted just a couple of minutes, when Syria scored the winner. Although Saudi threw everything at them, Syria managed to hang on, throwing bodies in front of shots & their keeper making a great save in injury time.

There's an interesting (for me) pattern emerging. 4 of the 7 goals I've seen over the weekend have been remarkably similar, including all 3 in this match. A ball has been crossed in, cleared as far as the top of the box, where an attacker has taken a first time shot which has finished in the back of the net. Of these, Saudi's goal was the only headed shot (the others were volleyed), and the only one not deflected.(Syria's second was almost a carbon copy of their first, right down to the scorer).

I haven't seen many similar opportunities in the Nix matches I've seen this season. Perhaps defences are set up differently, or the second line of attack is too deep, or Nix shots from those positions don't stay low enough to be deflected. May also be a reflection on our crossing.

He'll be lucky if it's only a sacking he gets.

Three for me, and two for them.

Well my predictions were a failure.. Awesome surprise though.

In theory Australia should beat India and Korea should beat Bahrain..Azevo2011-01-10 15:13:15

Hey Stevo, if Bahrain win, you can run around Busan telling folks the All Whites are better than Korea

I am hoping Korea Republic come up against DPR in the quarter finals.

C'mon India, smash these Aussie c**ts for 6!  Opps.  Wrong sport.  I repeat: Qatar grass is sensational.  Another super pitch, this time at a small, yet nice stadium.

Small crowd.  But fair dinkum, they go spaz when India do something, like head the ball, pass the ball, win a freekick.  If they score - THEY'LL GO APEsh*t.

Some good saves by the Indian keeper.

Great save by the Indian keeper.  Cahill, reacts like an Australian only would in this situation: he throws the ball away in disgust, and with great petulance.

The end of the first session. Australia three without loss.
Total aerial dominance. Keeper has to come for every cross.

That wasn't the best keeping this time, but Holman would have had a freeheader from 6 yards nevertheless.  HT: 3-0.

Talk of a cricket score (currently 3 without loss) obviously excludes matches played by the Black Caps or the current Aussie side.

India giving a good account of themselves, but Oz completely dominating. If the 'Roos knock a few more in, and India get dealt with in similar fashion by Korea, the AFC will have to review this 'backdoor' qualifying process.

What's an Australians idea of foreplay?
You awake?

The 5 10' Cahill towers above the Indian defence and powers in the header.

Ended four without loss.
Good effort by India. Turned into a bit of a training exercise.
Go Bahrain.

Hi Everyone,

Can anyone tell me if there is anyway to watch the Asian Cup games in NZ? I can't see them on Sky's channel guide...

Thanks!

So far the Koreans are the best side I've seen.
Will be interesting to watch how Iran goes.

Hoping that Ji Sung Park can do something special for Korea in this tourny as he is retiring from national football after it. They did look good. Guess its kinda a given that Korea and Australia will be the ones to advance from the group...
