Apparently a "more humble Australia this Asian Cup".

Australia - big penalty claim with Cahill viciously shoved in the back as his head was about to do the business - turned down.

How do you say gooooooal in Korean?

? (pronounced: "goal").

SK seeming to find it quite easy to operate within the Aus goal box... pretty good game though. although most entertaining thing is listening to the commentator pronounce the Korean names.

South Korea - a class above, really.  Say that, as Kewell blasts wide.  Shud have done better.  That's two good chances he's had now.

Cahill dithers.  Gr8 chance there, at the 40'.

Yeah SK really is a class above. What i want to know though is the quality of the K-League really that much more than the A-league? SK seems to pump out such quality young players these days most of who are playing in the local league (for now anyway) The only problem with the SK team is they dont have a defined goal scorer really. they can create numorous scoring opportunities most of which go begging. :( if only they could get another Cha Bom like player. Would do wonders for the team.

Reason why some think Cahill is a bit of a "fraud" - needed to hit that first time.

But he can do no wrong in the eyes of the commentators!

lol Cahill is class, some serious head pulling in needed to be done here.

For the goal why did Neill retreat to the post instead of going at the unmarked player?
He then had two touches and then shoot.

South Korean football.  Go to FIFA's website - they say there's over a million SK players.  Go to KFA's website, they say only 16,000 registered players!  I believe the KFA.  f**k all kids playing the game.  Too busy being nerds.  But when they do - it's on patches of dirt/sand.  No grass here.  Concrete jungle nightmare.  What SK must have is a very good youth identification programme, together with resources to burn.  They do love the pride etc that success in international sport brings to the Land of the Morning Calm.  So they will invest.  As for the K-League, think small fast guys, running around like apesh*t, mixed together with better foriegn imports.  Better than the A-league?  Probably.  But I prefer the A-League 'grunt' myself.

O yes that takes me back to my SK day's before  my school got astro turf from the gravel/dirt... and yes they do seem to have good academies and development... And SK would have that money to be able to invest in the game which always helps hahah

Ogenoffski.  Getting torn a new arsehole by the silky skills of park Ji-sung.  Shud be off 4 2 yellows.

Also the kids they do identify, get pulled from classes and spend their whole lives playing footy. After all, if you're not doing something 20 hours a day in Korea, you're just p*ssing about. It helps that your teachers have to pass you cause you're an "athlete", despite the fact you've not seen the inside of classroom in years.

I thought the Aussies came back well in that 2nd. I thought they were gone at halftime, but the 2nd half turned into an entertaining arm-wrestle, and a draw was a fair result.

Jaycee John has had a haircut.  One thing I'm liking about the Asian Cup - using the traditional 32 panel buckminster.  As it shud always be.  Bahrain vs India.  Oh noes.  It's Bert again.  First chance to  India!  Lovely shot on the volley.

0-0 after 6'.

1-0 after 8' (Bahrain pen, Eye-ish)

India - an instant equalizer!  A good one, too.

2-1 Bahrain.  17'.

3-1 Bahrain 19'.  They were literally queuing up there for that goal.

2nd goal by India was the best. Bit awkward, but they eventually got it in. But those 5 Bahrain scored, very good for them.

They have a mission ahead of them though, needing to beat Australia to go through..

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

A draw was a fair result, but the Aussies won't find it easy against Bahrain.
The main difference betwee SK and Oz is the sharpness and technical abilities of the Koreans. This also applies to most Asian sides.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Japan is the same, been there about five times but the only football pitch I've ever seen is Yokohama Stadium.

Agreed. I don't know what the commentators were on about, saying Aus were virtually in the next round. The papers here today had it right, SK have a foot in the quarters, and Australia have a tricky fixture coming up.

SK have India, and should roll them comfortably, meaning the 'Roos must get something out of their game. Bahrain might not be as good as either Korea or Australia, but they'll be a test, and are quite capable of getting an upset on their day.

Halftime core: Iran 0-0 Nth Korea

Good North Korea showed up for that half, and Iran making a lot of errors and turning over possession.

Nice goal by Iran. Quick thinking at the throw in, a good cross and finish.

UAE 0-0 Iraq (HT)
Entertaining first half, the woodwork has had a decent workout at both ends, a few tempers getting frayed. There's potential for plenty of goals and cards in the 2nd half.

Iraq 1-0 UAE FT

Heartbreak for UAE as Walid Abbas deflects a cross into the 6-yard box into his own net in the 93rd minute.

UAE must upset Iran to have any hope of going through.

Is Ali Abbas involved at all?

Man I wish we were getting more coverage.  Uzbeks have been fantastic from brief highlights I've viewed.

Halftime in Group A:
Uzbekistan 1-1 China
Qatar 2-0 Kuwait.

China rocked the Uzbeks with a 6th minute goal, but the equaliser came at 30 mins. Good game both teams playing some good footy.

As things stand Uzbek are top, Qatar 2nd. China need to win by at least 2 goals to get through. Kuwait may as well go home now.

1 minute after halftime,Geynrich hits a screamer. Uzbekistan 2-1. Not looking good for China now.

Also, I think commentator 'Bert' is Bernd Stange, who coached Perth 1998-2001. He also coached Oman in 2001, and Iraq 2002-04, and is currently in charge of Belarus wolfman2011-01-17 07:11:32
