This Saudi side are one of the best Asian teams I have seen.

Oz lucky to still be in it.

ALthough I struggle with the constant importing of external tragedies into football, Aussies did die and it's a pretty shark house thing to do.

Even if they don't beat Japan, they're still in a good position. Saudi Arabia play Japan in the last game, and Aussies have Thailand at home. I'm a bit disappointed that the prospect of an Australia - USA inter-continental playoff now looks very unlikely.

Yip, win and through. Draw with Japan and beat Thailand and through, Lose against Japan and beat Thailand then it’s do the qualify or do they go to the playoff. Result last night has really put them in a good spot.

Easy guide for what Australian need to do to qualify. Game against Japan tonight in Japan at 10.35pm NZT also Australia has Thailand next who are currently bottom of the group with no wins while UAE has Japan.

If Socceroos WC qualification is confirmed next few days, do they become an option for a AWs friendly in October window?

Of course this presumes AWs beat Solomons, however everyone is already talking about Japan as agreeing to a friendly.

Personally much prefer Australia, it's been a while since we played our big bro neighbour, plus I think possession style game Ange has them playing better mimics a South American team than Japan.

Come on FFA do us a favour!

I would love to play Aussie but we are just not high enough profile for them. Last time we faced them was because all their other options pulled out and we were the last resort.

To be fair, if Japan are interested in playing us in October we should jump at that, we're not exactly hot property when it comes to arranging friendlies against quality international sides.

Finishes 2-0 to Japan, despite Socceroos dominating possession.

Interesting that foreign coaches like Pim Verbeek and Holgar Oseek (spp) were hated by many Aussie football fans but at least they achieved automatic WC qualification through Asia

Curious to see reaction to Ange Pot if he fails to do that

Aussie are really going to need to put a few past Thailand to help their case, their recent history doesn't make good reading tho

Just a win may do if Saudi Arabia can't beat Japan. Although with the Japanese now qualified, they may give some of their fringe players a run.
