Huh? Aren't we like 18 months too late for a Moss suspension appeal?

Yeah, NZF thought their Xmas break was more important than our first 2 WC games.

Yeah, NZF thought their Xmas break was more important than our first 2 WC games.

Then Tommy Smith apparently wasn't on the team sheet at the MCG (if GourdieTV3 twitter is accurate) and then Brockie didn't make the team sheet this morning.

I wonder what they are saving up for South Africa?

On commentary, Ricki Van Steeden was on radio sport the other day discussing coverage and im pretty sure for the New Zealand games you can chose from the NZ coverage (Dewhurst and De Jong) or the International fedd

Oh thank god. Couldn't stand 90 mins of dewhurst, let alone a month. Remember watching  Phoenix vs GCU "Is it sux? SUX UT US! SUX UT US!"

Slovakia beat Costa Rica 3-0...

1 pen and 1 own goal. Vittek scored the other one.

They made 6 subs though - much different to how we are approaching friendlies..valeo2010-06-06 16:25:32

How do we choose which commentry feed we want? Thank god I won't have to listen to Dewhurst and Fred De Jong, thank god.

Slovakia have a viscous counter-attack. We'll have to be bloody careful going forward. Might suit our 'dink it up the pitch to Fallon' type play.

Ref just announced as south african Jerome Damon. Wonder what he'll be like?

He's South African so most likely crap judging on the pre WC friendlies so far in SA

Just googled and he allowed a goal that wasn't a goal in Cameroon v Egypt in the recent African nations cupvaleo2010-06-06 23:52:31

I hope we play in our Black kit against Slovakia then. South Africans love the All Blacks from what I hear, so hopefully we can get some hometown support from the locals (and the ref)

More importantly, I wonder how the ref will rule as far as fouls and dives go. I can see the All Whites coming unstuck if their more physical play is ruled as fouls, especially with other teams aware of the way we play and milking calls whenever possible. Fallon and Reid are two players I think may need to make quick adjustments to the referee - although I personally believe both players have been hard done by in recent games.

Common sense would suggest we'll play in white, since Slovakia's first kit is blue.

But you never know with FIFA.

I think brockie should start instead of one of the stikers.. he can play the link role between the midfield and the strikers.. 3 up front is good.. but our midfield needs more help.

You'd bench one of our best players for brockie? Huge call!

Allegedly

*head in hands*

So why Brockie not McGlinchley? This would be a complete change of tactics. not going to happen.

And silly. The team is much better than the confed cup team. Reid, Smith and Fallon, with McGlinchey on the bench.

edit: and Chris Wood too I think. He wasn't playing at the Confeds. We're a much superior team to what we were then.

Not sure why people are up in arms about what Terry V said.
I did not think there was anything he said to offend me
I am not sure what you wanted him to say. Like everyone else he has an opinion.
The fact is he has a right to these comments as he has been there, done that.
I did not bother to read any other of the team comments.

I agree. Everything he said was true, and I think it was worded in such a way that it would be impossible to be offended by it. Doesn't mean we can't make it the 2nd round, but I think most would agree that we're the underdogs in our group.

Of course he's entitled to his opinion. But it's an ill-informed one - he clearly has no idea of how different (and improved) this team is from the one we had at the Confederations Cup (no Nelsen, Fallon, Reid and Smith there, we played a different formation which didn't work for us, had Mulligan playing RB which was a disaster), and some of the friendlies he mentioned. It's clear from the article that he knows next to nothing about the All Whites - he just googled some of the recent results, and came up with irrelevant rubbish. I mean, if you are writing something like this, at least have some ammunition to back-up your opinion/analysis there. Otherwise you just look like a dick.el grapadura2010-06-08 13:51:41

It's not like he's going to do in depth analysis on every team, though, is he?

He didn't say anything overly offensive.

At least have a relevant opinion based on up-to-date info.

I mean if I dismissed England's chances in this World Cup by saying they failed to qualify for EURO 2008 and lost to Croatia in 2006 and 2007 I'm sure there'd be a few eyebrows raised...el grapadura2010-06-08 18:33:25

I reckon, if England don't blow it completely i.e. not turn up for a game and lose a quarter final or something like that, they have a chance.
They have, after all, an in-form squad and the best coach in the world [although he's not a man, he's scum, he is very very competent].

Chris R in the NZ Herald comes up with just as much rubbish. He had to make 32 opinions about some countries he probably does not know which continent they are on. Bet he got paid well.
I was still not offended.

The slight difference being that Chris Rattue is a footballing ignoramus who no-one takes seriously on this side of the ditch, while El Tel is a footballing personality of some repute in global terms.

Venables' very standing in the game demands a more relevant opinion than the one he offered.

Frighteningly, I agree with Leggy.  It might not be nice to hear but we are potential whipping boys.

On the flip side, that means we have nothing at all to lose.  We cannot perform worse than expected.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
