I think Brazil has a good chance of winning the World Cup they have the attacking flair as always but their defense this time is one of the best in the competition. They just lack a good holding midfielder

Looks doubtful, Dunga is pretty hard to convince, but hey you never know. There could be a couple of bolters in the squad announced on the 11th.

Well watching Ronaldinho's recent display against Fiorentina was a flashback to the good old days, I have a feeling Dunga may just put him in. he seems to be hitting some really good form at just the right time. Would be foolish not to take him, you can see he is buzzing to go to the world cup. He has the X factor and game breaking presence you need to win tight games. Come on Dunga take Ronaldinho to the cup for us!! The fans!! What's a world cup without Ronaldinho!!!??? Black Plague2010-05-09 23:41:39

No Ronaldinho, no Adriano, no Pato, no Neymar, no Ganso. Dunga has gone for abalanced team, without egos. I like his style.

Too be honest, every time I've seen Grafite play he looked average.

There's much better Dunga could have chosen.

Brazil to play Zimbabwe and Tanzania for a cool 8 or so million dollars in appearance fees...Seems like Dunga said it was difficult to get teams to play them....found that hard to believe...

Hope Mugabe isn't paying them in Zimbabwean dollars or they might get a nasty shock when they go to bank them.

Michel Bastos, he seems to have the upper hand on the left back position. Check his skills out here. Not bad for a left back, Roberto Carlos and Nilton Santos would be proud.

Where does Gomes sit in the pecking order?

Julio Cesar is no. 1 I've read, but is Doni rated above Gomes?

Gomes has recently taken the number two spot from Doni. Juli Cesar is streets ahead of both.

Doni is a disaster, shouldn't really be anywhere near the national set-up.

In other news Brazil beat Zimbabwe 3-0 overnight.

Thanks BP & EG.

Looks like an injury scare to Cesar from that game.

Trivia:  Whose name is the best - Socrates or Julio Cesar?

Socrates has to be the finest. There are lots of Julio Cesar brazilian players but he is the ONLY Socrates in Brazilian football. He is a trained doctor hence the name....
No injuries by the sounds of things....pitch was rubbish and the tackles from Zimbabweans resembled Austalia at the MCG....dodgy as...good to escape without injuries, bring on Tanzania on Tuesday morning....

A venue for all Brazil games is being set up. They will be doing all other games as well.

Its only just been confirmed by a Brazilian friend of mine who is involved. Its the huge Temperance Bar in Allen St off Courtenay Place. Apparently its getting a makeover and will be all set up as a South American venue overall. Being the World Cup base for Brazil games is their first big gig. Heaps of bars - BIG BIG screens.

Will post more info when I know it.

They're one of the better backlines at the world cup, I'm sure they'll be on form come the time. Juan was not playing and he is vital to the back four.

That sounds fantastic.  A shame I'll be at home watching it on iraqgoals.  Maybe in another two world cups I'll be able to get out more.

Temperance, set up with the support of Rugby, called Wellington's home of Rugby, now making a play for the football market by aiming for a group that won't know the Rugby link... because the rest of us would be cynical ?

No.  Never.

Oh - I should have added that it has been taken over by the Southern Cross so its a case of new management - maybe we could consider it a partial takeover by football of what was once pitched as being the home of Wellingotn Rugby...

I don't hes vital to the back four at all. Thiago Silva can easily take his place and Thiago has had a great first season at Milan. Plus Juans only played 3 out of the last 14 of Brazils games thats hardly vital. Lucio is the key player in the back four

Yeah I agree without doubt Lucio is the most important defender, he isn't captain by chance, he owns that area. Thiago Silva is becoming a great player, from his Fluminense days I could see he was easily a step ahead of the others. He will become more imprtant.

That is vital news especially for Hard News, don't want it to bring back memories of what Temperance represented before....

Well me having a night life is still a pipe dream, but if there was an opportunity to watch matches at any unofficial country HQ I'd be up a starter be it with the Pommies at 4K or the Samba boys/girls at (the new) Temperance or with the Irish of Asia at wherever.

The Temperance Bar is being renamed Estadio, and is going to be a venue for all thing South American. Its being promoted as the Brazil home base, and i'd say also the other SOuth American teams, or anyone else who wants to go there. They are playing all games there live as far as i can tell.

YEP - its a case of getting the Word-of-Mouth machine going...it could be a wicked venue with its huge screens in the Atrium and the 3 levels of viewing that they have for them. Its actually a bit like a stadium really.
