Why wouldn't they be cocky about their group? They drew probably the worst team in both pot 3 and pot 4, but probably the toughest team in pot 2. Any of the seeded teams would have been incredibly cocky going into that group. Haven't heard any pom taking US lightly, but all saying it should be a cakewalk to qualify.

I'd disagree that Slovenia are the worst team in their pot. As far as Algeria goes, does anyone actually know whether they will be any better or worse than the other African teams?
But sure, most of the seeds would go into that group with some confidence.

No penalty shoot-outs in the first round, so no worries of that. But not a bad point - the other teams may as well just hack England down in the box and all start laughing when the ref gives a penalty.

I absolutely can't stand it when people compare England Football with the All Blacks. It's a horrendous call. The All Blacks actually are one of the top few teams in the world. English Football isn't that good. Despite the hype from the media who get half of their football stories sourced from England.

Hmm, whilst Egypt played well in the first half I think you could say we were a shambles too. However the second half we played Egypt off the park. Crouch was offside for his second goal but they all count so we'll take that.
Thought we looked dodgy defensively but Baines had a reasonable debut. Barry was always busy in the middle of the park and Rooney was his usual self up front, although starved of service in the first half. Crouch and Wright-Phillips had excellent games when they came on.
All in all a good confidence booster and an education on North African opponents. So a 3-1 win then - apologies to all those who hate us...
