Henry = Cheat.
In Tommy's own words, "Forearm of God"
Poor Henry... such a good, nice player, I spose its just another Frenchman with a destroyed legacy. Feel real sorry for Ireland who were the better team for most of the match.
I honestly think he should be given huge bans for this. Talk about diving all you like, this is heaps worse imo.Michael2009-11-19 13:11:15

I was just beginning to get over how Henry is ex-arse and so it was OK for me to like him at Barca, not sure if that respect will remain.

Dirty cheating French ponce.
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I'm sure Frank van Hattum takes that as a personal insult.

Henry has a relatively spotless record other than that doesn't he? Although this is bad I still consider it nothing on other footballers.
And some people have mentioned that Henry's actions were worse than diving. What rubbish. That's not opinion that it's rubbish, that's a fact. Diving can result in a red card for an opposition player and a goal for you while the handball only really helps you get the goal.
Drogba's still far worse and it pains me to love the Ivory Coast with him in the squad despite his skill which I begrudgingly admit he has.

Nothing
It is up there, isn't it? Maradona 86, Schumacher 82, Henry 09.... oh, and the South America goalkeeper who cut himself and claimed it was a thrown flare in a WC qualifier (Chile against Brazil?) - though he at least was not successful.

ok ok it shouldnt of been a goal.
But isnt it really the officials fault, not the players? What do you expect Henry to do, go to the ref and say he handballed it and put his side at risk? Dreaming...
It's the same as the cricket debate saying batsmen should walk I guess.

And to those saying Ireland dominated, may I point you towards exhibit A:

I'd expect him to keep his hands off the ball. As for which is worse between diving and this, there are dives and dives, some shockers and some in response to the defender taking liberties. This is, and always will be, blatant cheating. He chose to cheat and quite possibly had in mind how likely it was in that position he'd get away with it.But isnt it really the officials fault, not the players? If the player hasn't cheated then the official doesn't have to catch him.

That was disgracefull and he should be banned from the world cup finals for that..
Blatant cheating.
Surely its bringing the game into disrepute?

Saying they were the better team for most of the match is a long way from saying they dominated the match.
Edit:
The more interesting question raised by the stats is the definition being used for a save. 3 shots on target by Ireland and 5 saves by France?

hmmm, naturally Platini will ignore this, so too will Blatter. Ok, so Fifa wont have the balls/ can't because of the rules to have the game replayed or the French kicked out, but they can go after Henry for unsportsmanship behaviour. What did amaze me is the offside missed by the lino and the referee and then the incident again missed by both.
I hope the match officials get a good dose of conscience guilt and either flag it or make every effort to become better. I hope France lose their first two games and go out for that effort. And I hope Henry has manysleepless nights for his CHEATING.

Interesting interpretation. I consider a team that is the BETTER team for MOST of the match to have dominated.

I too was wondering about that.

There's no allowance for ordering the game to be replayed, is there?
The only times I can think of when FIFA did that was when a ref made a technical error and got the laws of the game wrong in the 2006 WC Qualifiers - a playoff game between Bahrain and Uzebkistan.
This is either an error of judgement (ref did not think the handball deliberate) or an incident the ref did not see (blocked line of sight or lapse of concentration).
Henry won't lose sleep will he? Not unless he is given a retrospective suspension.... unlikely I would think, given that the ref would have only give a yellow card had it been spotted.
Oh well. The scores were otherwise level - the Irish could have gone on to win or lose, so Henry denied them the opportunity to win rather than actually denied them the win.

Domination is at the extreme end of being the better team, surely. Example - NZ were better for most of the match against Bahrain last weekend, but to say they dominated would be an exaggeration.

Ok after seeing that in proper quality, that is pretty appaling.
Why not a system where they check goal replays if a team challenges or something like that
Permalink
The Irish still needed another goal to go through either way...and had plenty of time to do so.
Toughen up.

Yeah, generally when one is 'robbed' they actually have something in their possession that is taken away from them. All Ireland had was a hope, the tie was still drawn at that stage.

The reason that FIFA have thus far resisted replays and challenges are:
- delays
- it puts two versions of the laws of the game into play and they want the game to be played the same at all levels.

France are now even in the bad call stakes, finally recovered balance from the deficit since Schumacher in 82. So what this means is that the debt has been transferred and Germany owe Ireland.

Yeah they needed another goal go through... but what he did is totally against the spirit of the game and Fifa's fair play.
Game wont be replayed, ireland were only a 50/50 chance at best but Fifa need to make a stand against that sort of play.
He should be suspended just like the ref will.
Whats the difference between Henry and the ref? Henry knew what he was doing...
As much as I dislike what he did, the fact that it wasn't a red card offence will probably mean he will escape a suspension. Is there a statute or precedent that can be used to suspend him? If not, it can't be done.
