Who said that there is conflict between club and country, eh??

I've always been open about my affiliations, nothing to hide here.

Centre back is the real weakness imo, especially if Gallas does not make it. Other than that the squad is very strong (think of Malouda, Clichy, Govou etc on the bench).

Allez les Bleus!
surely they will be starting malouda ahead of anelka. hes been far more impressive this season than anelka. with henry in the middle and ribery and malouda each side of him france will be extremely potent.how good has henry been playing recently? is he assured of a starting spot cos anelka has been bloody good when playing in middle up front as opposed to out right

Malouda has been very good but I still think he'll be a bench player. After all, Domenech has played Anelka regularly when available.

Henry's been pretty much a bench player for Barca this season. Think he only scored about 4 goals in La Liga.el grapadura2010-05-21 16:15:10

It's true. But Domenech still plays him, rightly or wrongly.

He's still a good player and can do the job for France.

I just don't trust Domenech, the guy's a complete idiot.

No qualms from me there, the man should have been out the door some time ago. France must work with what they've got though.

Why's Domenech an idiot?  I'm not arguing the point, I just don't know much about the guy and I love to bitch so if you tell me I can bitch too and for maybe only the second time ever have a decent reason behind it.

Incompetent as a coach, terrible man-manager, and a bit of an all-round cock generally.

With the talent that France have, he got knocked out at the group stages of EURO 2008, and barely managed to qualify for this World Cup. Says it all really.

Hated by the general populace too, which is never a good thing.

The French hate everyone though don't they?

Three for me, and two for them.

But got them to the final of the 2006 WC against the odds??

Though recent form is poor.

Similar to Grant getting Chelsea to a CL final. It was the players who rallied together to get them that far. Nothing to do with the manager.

Three for me, and two for them.

I believe it's 'everyone hates the French', but close enough.

Not really against the odds - France were easily the best team in the last World Cup once it got to the knock-out stages.

With Zidane in that form, Hard News could have taken them to the final.

2-1 win over Costa Rica this morning.

France all over them but unable to put chances away. Poor keeping from Mandanda for the concession, brilliant work from Diaby to set up the second.

Check how hard Gourcuff hits the ball at 1.55. I think that is the hardest shot I have ever seen (albeit off target)!

Does anyone know what number Anelka is?  May grab a French shirt with him on it.
Permalink Permalink
almost 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Don't think World Cup numbering will allow him 39. I think they only go up to 23. He was 9 in the qualifiers.

I am thinking of getting a Gourcuff one. Or maybe Henry.simon_hampton2010-05-31 20:02:44

Oh bugger.  Paid for the shirt last night.  I'd found something saying he'd be number 21.  Better be 21 and not 39 or whatever.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/_/team/478/france?cc=3436&ver=global - this has him as number 21 and so did wikipedia last night so I figured it was the case.  Wiki has now just changed him to 19.

f**kin' hell I'm going to be pissed if it's the wrong number.

Definitely won't be 39, the number only go up to 23.

Wikipedia's now saying 19.  And I've seen Anelka play #8 before.  And on another football shirt site you can select your player as 'Anelka #9'.  So I'm somewhat nervous over that one.

Basically I'm going to hurt the soccernet guys if they got it wrong.

If he's only playing in that number during the WC it doesn't matter too much?

Permalink Permalink

I want the correct WC number as it has a WC patch on it.

So if anybody knows what the story is with regards to numbers I'd appreciate it.

From what I've read this seems to be the likely line up right now:

That is a sexual line-up.  Can't wait to see them play.  Hope Cisse gets some gametime.

Yeah, that looks quality. Henry as the 'supersub' I'm hearing. Can't wait to see Gourcuff at the World Cup.

Merde! Zut alors! Quelle dommage Squire! (sorry that's my 5th form Franglais exhausted)

That is so laughable it almost makes up for the Hand of Frog.

I got this funny feeling that France are still going to do pretty well at this world cup.
Permalink Permalink

I was thinking exactly the opposite. Would not surprise me at all if they drop enough points to Uruguay and Mexico to miss out on the second round. They probably need to win their group too, otherwise it's a near certainty they'll face the Argies in the last 16.
