Not sure why I can't make a poll here but....

How well do you want the Australian team to do in the World Cup? I know that a lot of people support them in the World Cup because they are from "our part of the world" but I don't get that.

I've traditionally wanted Australian sides to lose, but no more so after the dirty game in Melbourne.

So I've gone from wanting to see them fail admirably to wanting them to fail miserably.

You?

they got a far rougher group than us, that is for sure

when the draw was made I had them for last in their group. despite Essien's injury I think I will still punt them for bottom.

I want them to win it. Then rub it in our faces about how good they are.

Three for me, and two for them.

I'd quite happily see them progress further than last time. If they were to beat England to do so - even better.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Why can't we make polls?

I wonder what people think about who will get more points? Australia or New Zealand?

Before the Serbia match I would have thought us lucky to pull off any draw.

But now I'm quietly optimistic we MAY be able to sneak a sneaky win somewhere.

Feet firmly planted to the ground and not getting ahead of myself but I think that win now gives the lads the confidence to play their game and the belief that a win is actually possible (now that it's happened once before).

It's a tough one. On the one hand, the irritating Aussie arrogance and the hacking. On the other hand, my habitual love of the underdog (I'm a Luton Town fan, it's in my blood!).

I'd rather see Ghana do well though, as an African team at this World Cup, so I think my ideal series of results would be:

Australia beat Germany, enjoy that moment of glory, and then, just as their joy turns to arrogant presumption, they get thrashed by Ghana and Serbia to be knocked out in the group stage while we make the final 16 (at least).

I always want NZ then Canada (but they didn't get there) then anyone but australia and the usa but then will take oz over the us anyday. but since I'm currently mad at the japanese for their stupid terrorist trial i hope they come very last & even the states shd beat them

I've kept saying for the past two months, I think Australia will be coming home at the same time as us.

And if we get more points than them, I'll spend the following year on Oz football forums endlessly baiting them.

Who's vying for 2018/2022 from Asia?

Australia
Indonesia

and I think Russia having seen some billboards on the weekend game.

Qatar is bidding for 2022.

I started a thread about it the other day cause was kind of surprised people weren't more excited about the thought of a closer to home (and cheaper) world cup only 8yrs down the track

This is going off topic but for the record I don't care.

Has FIFA indicated or hinted that they will review the Oceania qualification route?

Just found this video of what they're proposing for some of the stadiums.

Mind-boggling.

Pretty certain it will be the same for 2014.

Who knows beyond that.

I'm inclined to want to see them fail, but I do what them to do well as well, for some reason. If they fail to get out of their group, I want us to get more points than them. If they do get out, I'd like to see them take down some big teams and do well. I don't know if that makes sense, perhaps it would have been easier to say I want them to lose!

I don't want to get my hopes up about continued qualification. It's been a wonderful ride so far and I really wish we could keep on qualifying but I best not set myself up for disappointment.

Hence not really thinking beyond 2010 when it comes to World Cups.

I have some relatives in Indonesia so from a person point of view it would be cool for Indonesia to get 2018/2022 as Indo would qualify automagically but the stadium security is not up to par and the infrastructure of the country is a mess.

Well cancel that. Wikipedia states that in March 2010 the Indonesian bid was rejected as it didn't have the necessary government support. Bring on Australia or Qatar I guess, as long as NZ is involved.ahmad2010-06-01 00:17:17

A shame for Indonesia, that. My favourite country (after NZ), and they're football mad over there. Unfortunately, security issues aside, the place is so chaotic at the best of times that it's hard to imagine a WC bid ever succeeding.

Their fans have no discipline. In fact the population are generally ill-disciplined. A real shame :/

Yes they are mad about football but too "mad". I wanted to go to a league game but was advised against it as violence tends to occur regardless of results.

Chaos indeed - the infrastructure doesn't work day to day, let alone for a big event like this.ahmad2010-06-01 00:32:02

I would like to see them on zero points and minus 15 or so GD.

If we do get more points than them I will be asking El Grab for what Aussie forms give him the best reaction and joining in.

In the previous world cup,i supported them. It has been a natural thing to do,as them doing well had a flow on effect onto us (and still does),and it was always good to see someone from this part of the world doing well in a world cup.

Now that we are in it,and the way some have been acting and how they acted about playing us and how they hacked bertos...I am not.

Wouldn't think it would be hugely influential in the decision.

Mexico in 86 (after Colombia pulled out)
USA in 94
Korea/Japan in 02

Don't think any of these countries were "dong well" in previous world cups, although post WC they did make more advances.

(I may be wrong but US "soccer" had got a bit stale leading into 94 after it's inital surge of popularity with the likes of Beckenbauer (and his photogenic wife) introducing the game to the masses).

Hope they get their arse kicked.
Every chance of that.
But they won't see that they overrate themselves, it will all be Pim's fault for letting down the world class team that is the soccerwho's.

I want them to do well, most of the aussies I know are great people, and they are our neighbours. Was hugely upset at the way they went out last time.
HOWEVER, the more time I spend in the aussie forums, and the more some of the more obnoxious aussies post here, the less well I want them to do. So i'm caught between wanting them to do really well, and wanting them to get beaten 3-0 in every game.aitkenmike2010-06-02 10:17:05

I cheered when Japan scored against them in 2006, and then sulked when they got their goals.  I will be doing the same again this time.

I hope one of the Serbians bites Grella on the face.
