Anyone else here of Italian heritage/support Italy? I will be supporting them as my second team after New Zealand, of course.

Cue newzealandpower...
I do normally support Italy, particularly last world cup. A friends father passed away before it and he was a passionate Italian football fan, so it felt like a fitting tribute.

Hate Italy from the depths of my soul.
Hope they're out in the first round, with 0 points and 0 goals scored.

And HN, that seems like an appropriate thing to do. My mother's side is Italian and love football whereas my father's side of the family like rugby, so naturally from a rather young age I took on Italy as a team to support.

I backed France last time and I will never forgive that Italian defender for his cunning plan to give Zidane a brain explosion. But I won't back France this time since they'll have to go through beloved Ireland to get there.
As I've said before, I hope we are in Italy's group, because I want to do a North Korea '66 against them.

Style of football historically, arrogance, other historical reasons, and everything seems to be broken in their bloody country and they just don't give a toss even after you'd been asking them nicely and politely to fix it for 3 days.

The significant difference being that everything works perfectly fine in Germany.

I completely agree with you about Italy, can't stand them. Seems like you have a good taste/hate in teams, hating England also. I trust you loathe Portugal.

here I am. I just wanted to give it a few days and see what people would say. And I'm glad to see that opinions from both sides have been voiced. I must say that I will support Italy, of course, but I'm actually not sure if I'd prefer Italy to win the cup or NZ to win a game/make it to the second round. Both results would be out of this world to me!
In all honesty I think there's a chance that El Grapa was actually right. Lippi decided to leave the NT team on a high after winning the Cup and Donadoni managed to undo all the hard work the man from Tuscany had done during his previous time. Now Lippi is back and I can't help but feeling that Italy lack the man power to do any good on the world stage. They're 2 years behind all the other teams as far as preparation goes. They're thinking about bringing back Totti [my life hero, my idol, my God], but I almost think that we shouldn't. Apart from Buffon, I wouldn't want to see Cannavaro, Del Piero, Camoranesi, Grosso, Gattuso, Zambrotta..yet they're all there.
It ain't good enough.
The one good thing Italy have is that they almost always perform in competitions like the World Cup..and for they have the power of turning every game to their advantage. This being said, I think it's a miracle if we make it past the group stage.
MARK ME WORDS.

Italy have basically booked into the next round after the draw. Hopefully that will work in our favour. . . .

We have New Zealand in our group guys. I'm afraid to say that there may be a struggle to make it to the second round!

yeah looks like Italy and Paraguay should go through. Perhaps NZ to get a point or three vs Slovakia? Or even Paraguay? I'm really not sure eh. All I know is that it's not that difficult a group and who knows, if NZ beat Slovakia they could even make it...

I kept thinking it was Uruguay we had in the group but no... Paraguay.
I am an Italian supporter usually first and foremost but I will support NZ as far as they go and then jump on the Italian bandwagon. I'll support both, just a shame they are in the same group!
Have captains and squads been named for next year yet or is it a bit early?

I've got Italian ancestry so I'll be rooting for them amongst others
