What do you know a club team from the Islands, with a goal keeping howler!

Kohei Matsumoto (ex Ham Wanderers, Waitak & Hawkes Bay United) got 20 mins plus ET off the bench for Hienghène Sports.

Keeper was genuinely brilliant in the time I watched, after Al-Sadd's first goal until the end. That guy Athale with the big afro was fantastic as well. Not much to call home about over the rest though, but fantastic team effort to keep a club of that calibre close

I see Solomon Islands fielded more than 1 overage player in the U16 OFC (U17 WC qualifiers) in 2018.

I get where SIFF are coming from with their line of "hey, not our fault, they had the passports, why should the rest of the players miss their opportunity because of 2 bad eggs", but at the end of the day it's actually other (Tahiti, New Caledonia etc) kids missing out on their opportunity because of a few cheats.

The only power OFC (and FIFA) have to stop it is to ban the country. The SIFF can then go back to their govt and demand they conglomerate their feces or risk the ire of a football mad population. Otherwise they'll keep flouting the rules.

SI were extremely fortunate to have been allowed to Brazil 2019, a tournament that 2 age-cheating African countries were banned from.

We made some investigation about it:

This is actually quite interesting. That first win was shown in the Last Goal Wins documentary IIRC

Fudge I hate these type of lazy cultural comments, reeking of nepotism. And I know a lot of people in the Island community despise them as well.

The Samoan rugby team, went on strike against their own administrators a few years ago, as they weren't getting paid, but all sorts of hangers on - were getting free gifts, trips etc.

Nicholas, who moved from Auckland back to his homeland of Rarotonga after he resigned from his OFC position, did however comment last year in a statement to the Cook Islands News.

In it, the newspaper reported, Nicholas said he had received no personal benefit from any payment or transactions, except for an unpaid unfair which he did not know was unpaid.

"If the payments that I approved for officials within OFC for medical expenses, life events or funerals of which were approved by the OFC Board is bribery and corruption then I would do it again without hesitation since under our Pacific Culture and Custom, the welfare of our community has to be paramount," the statement said.

Looks like once Phoenix hopeful Raphael Le'ai helped his team Henderson Eels to win the first Solomon Island championship!

$NZ110K not a small fine I would have thought for someone in the Cooks.

https://www.oceaniafootball.com/cifa-president-mr-lee-harmon-banned-by-the-ofc-disciplinary-and-ethics-committee/

The Adjudicatory Chamber of the OFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee in a decision notified on 6 July 2021 has found Mr. Lee Harmon, President of the Cook Islands Football Association, guilty of having breached the OFC Code of Ethics.

The ethics proceedings are part of an extensive investigation into the OFC in which Mr Harmon was identified as having allegedly breached articles 13,15,19, 20 and 21 of the OFC Code of Ethics of June 2019.

The following sanctions were imposed on the 23 August 2021:

  • banned for 6 years from taking part in any kind of football related activity at the national, regional, and international level (administrative, sports or any other) for the period of the ban commencing 16 August 2021; and
  • fined the sum of NZ$110,000.00 payable to the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC),

would have been way less than he was getting paid by OFC and the "undeclared" payments he would have been receiving.

Queenslander 3x a year.

PNG name a training squad. Tommy Semmy's in there, so must be back in PNG?

New coach yet to arrive in the country, and their national league suspended due to Covid.

Indication that some of these Island teams, will be way behind the 8 ball, in comparison to the AWs, if that March tourney happens.
