Interesting. Of course I was generalising, about both players. I just find it hard to fathom quite how Maradona seems to cause such rage, you referred to him as a twat earlier, in people. Bizarre. Personally, I think Maradona is one of the finest footballers of his generation and his various indiscretions don't change that for me. Also, from a personal standpoint, I look rather less favourably on someone getting pissed and beating their missus up than having a rant at a press conference.
Also, your reply would suggest that you are somewhat sympathetic to Gascoigne's personal failings while not extending the same sympathy to Maradona's. The expulsion from the World Cup was a direct result of his personal failings.
As for Maradona's apparent animosity towards England and the English, as a Scot that only makes him more endearing to me! 
I admire the ability that both players had, I'm not knocking either of them, or you for your opinion. As I said, just trying to get a handle on the fact that, in my experience, the mere mention of his name seems to have a very strange effect on some people, notably those from England.

You could argue that England didn't deserve to beat that Argentinian team anway ( and I can understand that argument) though the flipside is that such a great side shouldn't have had to resort to such tactics to win the game. Has it affected my objectivity concerning Maradona and Argentina- probably.
