I'm interested to see why people support there team specifically.

Whats different about your team to others, and if you have more than one what appeals to you about each team?

United was based purely on my family supporting them for years, other than that teams around the world I support have been based purely on taking a fancy to certain sides when i was younger.
You know we belong together...

Nix - home team - will support any Wellington based team.

Gunners - had heaps of mates who watched prem league when I was younger, so began to join them, like what I saw during an arsenal game and have followed them sice.

Hibs - lived 10 mins from the ground until I left Scotland. My dad and grandad were fans. Dad took me to the games from when I was 5 years old (saw George Best play for Hibs) - Season ticket holder myself throughout my teens.

Saw Shearers debut for Blackburn in a preseason friendly  - after the game got Dalgliesh's autograph as he was leaving the stadium.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Queen's Park Rangers (Since 1978) when I started following football. Love the name, the strip, the style of play and the players (Bowles, Marsh, Ferdinand etc etc). Went to a couple of matches when travelling in 1990 then used to visit Loftus Road often when living in the UK in 93/94.

Brighton and Hove Albion (1978) Name and Strip

Newcastle United (1990) Visited Geordie relatives and caught a game at St James' Park

Werder Bremen (1992) Lived there for a year. Wynton Rufer was a star for them then. They won the Cup Winners Cup that year.

YoungHeart Manawatu (in various forms since 1978) the "local" team.

Girondins de Bordeaux (1982?) A side that included Tigana, Giresse, Tresor and Battiston.

Fiorentina (1990) Watched them draw 0-0 with Juventus in the 2nd leg of the UEFA Cup Final (they lost 0-2 on aggregate) in a bar in Florence.

Deportivo la Coruna (1994) The year that they blew the chance of their first La Liga title when they missed a penalty in the dying seconds of their final match of the season - handing the title to Barcelona.

Boca Juniors (1978) Name and Strip

Aberdeen (1980s) A fine alternative to the Old Firm

Wellington Phoenix (2007) The local professional team

Basically I get a kick out of supporting less glamorous sides that occasionally flirt with success (apart from Boca who are the argentine glamour side) ever in the hope that I can bask in the glory of a cup or a championship or lets face it a half decent run in any competition at all.
My top 3 are QPR, Werder and Manawatu.

Grew up in Glasgow, in a family of Celtic supporters. My dad took me to the 1971 League Cup Final, Celtic v Partick Thistle. I decided I'd support the red and yellow team, who promptly beat Celtic 4 - 1. This was a Celtic team who had been in the European Cup final the season before.

Been a Thistle fan ever since. Was a season-ticket holder for 11 years, before I moved away from Glasgow.

We're an even finer alternative to the Old Firm, Zizou! A less glamorous side who have never flirted with success!

Used to go along and watch Sutton United when I lived in London.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Nix - well, same as everyone else... it's home - even when I'm living across the creek!

Arse - When I was around 9/10 and first got into football... I used to read Tiger mag (and ROTR) and watch MOTD and kinda started liking Spurs (Ardiles, Archibald & Hoddle primarily) then joined my local club (Naenae) and realised most kids supported Man U - as our strip was the same and the club kindly included a team photo with our m/ship thingee every year (on ya!) then when I was eleven, my Dads best mate came back from London and gave me a full Arsenal kit so that was pretty much me goneski... I happily retained a soft spot for Spurs for several years until I began to appreciate the rivalry between the two... if only I knew then... (but I was only ten)

Chelsea - Grew up just outside of London and flirted with Man City for a while.  Then got taken to see City play at Stamford Bridge (Chelsea was nearest league club to us).  Chelsea won 3-1 and I've been a Blues fan ever since (nearly 40 years).  Followed them home and away until moving to NZ in 97.

Leatherhead - nearest non-league club to where I grew up.  FA Cup giant killers in 70s and 80s now down on their luck a bit.

Brechin City - read an article about them when I was a kid.  I've never seen them play and know f*** all about them but always look for their results.

Nix - been asking myself that question a lot recently!

When i was 5 at some football training some kid said "what team do you like " I honestly didnt like any team but i just said Man United because all the other plonkers like them, he quickly replied "WHY DONT YOU SUPPORT ARSENAL" ever since that day I started to like Arsenal and they played attractive football - I only started to really follow them after then 98 World Cup when Davor Suker moved there. They had some class players back then

Everton - cos family are from Liverpool and have supported Everton since 1878.
Stop Out - my, as a kid, local team.
Phoenix - well they're a local team
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Phoenix - because Wollongong hasn't got an A-League team yet  I used to follow the Wollongong Wolves in the NSL, but not seriously as I wasn't into football that much back then - it was mostly a "by default" thing. If my mates were talking about the Kingz, I'd be all "I'm not from Auckland, I'm from Nowra, so I hope the Wolves beat you". But now the 'nix exist and they'll always be first.

Hellas Verona - The first time I actually developed a strong interest in football was after readon "A Season in Verona" by Tim Parks, which remains my favourite book to this date, and the one I've read the most.  The passion in those pages is what made me realise that football was special, and since then I've always kept an eye on Verona's results. Unfortunately, we're currently in Serie C1

Everton - Just fell into it really. I decided shortly after I really got into the Phoenix that I should probably take an interest in the EPL, so I could at least have an idea of what better football was out there. I kept my eye on a couple teams, but because I lived on Everton Terrace, Everton results stood out a bit more. Throw in Tim Cahill and the deal was done.

Man U - Was a massive fan in the 80s, mainly through Bryan Robson as my into to football was the 82 world cup. Became disillusioned with them around 2000 when I went to England and saw what a big coperate entity they were (not a football club). I couldnt get tickets for any game, except if I wanted to pay 1000 quid for a Limo, Champagne and a ticket.

Reading - lived in Farnborough for a bit and caught a few of their games on the local sports news, and when I moved there to teach, I went regularly, had to buy a programme off my students etc. We were in the third tier (now called League 1) and it was the beginnign of the resurgance that lead to premier league football.
