I don't know anything about this guy, but the more kiwi strikers playing in decent leagues the better... it's very slim pickings after Wood. Hopefully he gets some match time and some goals!

Greive more a wide forward/attacking midfielder in the Barbarouses/Champness/Collier/Just/McCowatt/Rogerson/Rojas/Stevens mould than a No 9 like Wood.

By all accounts he's done very well over there. A rare instance of one of these club partnerships coming to fruition. Played in a BCD friendly v Celtic last week.

Great stuff. Piney hosted a recent panel discussion about AWs, and future AWs contenders. Jacob Spoonley or someone had the inside goss that Greive was already impressing folks at St Mirren, having just arrived from NZ.

Obviously on the money.

Seems crazy to go from the NPL straight to SPL! Good on him.

Wonder if the Phoenix even looked at him? Must have the goods.

Off the bench in the 88th minute to make his debut.

Looked really flash in his cameo, great on the ball, blazed a shot over the bar in a good position though

Another Kiwi getting a pro deal at a decent level. What's not to like?

Good signs for him going straight into a matchday squad. Hopefully he continues to work his socks off over there. Good work lad. 👏

What's his NZ background?

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

19 goals in 19 games in the Northern League even though it's not a high level. But then getting a move to St Mirren and coming off the bench sounds very promising.

Aside from being born (and probably raised) in Auckland?

Oi Oi Edgecumbe
What's his NZ background?

Spent the past five or so seasons at Birkenhead where he started his career, aside from 2019 where he played for Cincinnati Dutch Lions in the USA while attending university there.

Spent the 2020/21 season with Waitakere United like many other Birkenhead alumni - 6 goals in 14 games. Scored 19 in 19 for Birkenhead this Northern League season, earning him the move.

Comes on in the 63rd minute of their Scottish Cup win at mid-table Championship side Ayr United.
Scoreline stays the same from when he came on - 2-0 St Mirren.

Coochiee, I’m the first to call someone a clown on this site and there are plenty of them. Maybe I’m one as well for saying this but your posts and updates on kiwis overseas are the best posts on this site. Rather then trawling through every result on some betting site, I can come straight here. It’s appreciated.

Make the guy a mod you mods and let him join the fever elite!,

Auckland will rise once more

Cheers and no worries I enjoy the trainspotting. Plus have plenty of free time mostly. You just need to have Soccerway open on about 10 browsers!

But as I've said before like a bearded Forrest Gump, running across the States, one day I'll just stop cold dead.

Shout out to Bossi Insider RR who does all the ALM transfer stuff, tipping comp etc. Now that would take up some serious time.

FYI - this comes to you from a hostel in Oaxaca, Mexico. A real fudgeer for me June's Intercontinental Playoff not a 2 legged affair! And binge watching some CONCACAF/CONEMBOL qualifiers here with a Colombian staffer on Friday.

St Mirren verus Dundee postponed.

But Greive likely will still miss SPL game verus Motherwell in a few days.

St Mirren with a 1-1 draw with Motherwell.

Greive would have been highly gutted his run on AWs debut didn't happen. Will probably happen in March with Hay likely to run with a large squad in Qatar.

First start in SPL!

Lone striker as St Mirren (9th) travel to Hibs (5th). Have we found the the new Wood (shouldn't say that of course!). Or even a Chris Killen.

Good luck to the lad. Looms now surely as strong prospect of making top 23 man AWs squad. Might be some squad rotation by St Mirren to be fair, in the midst of a heavy schedule.

Interesting that Greive's starting from NZ amateur footy, and yet a pretty proven ex ALM player in Matt Millar has been a bench sub for St Mirren of late.

One for the diary. 26th Feb. St Mirren verus Hearts & Scrappy Doo.

Subbed off at 70 mins (1 of 2 subs) with St Mirren up 1-0, and that's the way the game finishes.

Millar subbed on at 78 mins. St Mirren (host St Johnstone midweek) stay 9th on GD from Livingston (8th).

Sofascore gave Greive a 6.6. Backline got 7s & an 8.3 for their keeper.

The manager made one change for the side that drew with Motherwell midweek. Alex Greive, back from international duty with New Zealand, came in for his first start in place of the injured Eamonn Brophy.

The New Zealand forward was almost the recipient of a dangerous looking ball across from Jordan Jones with just eight minutes played, but the cross had too much on it for Greive to get proper contact.

Greive was sent away on the counter on 22 minutes with Lewis Stevenson hesitant to close the ball down. Greive drove forward but with no support he had a go from an angle which Kevin Dabrowski managed to push away.

Greive was inches away from scoring his first Saints goal and doubling our lead with around 20 minutes of play remaining. Jones caught the Hibernian defence out with his low ball across the box with Greive just unable to connect.

Really is an unbelievable rise for Alex think he’s come in and suprised a lot of people at the club and to be leading the line in the Scottish premiership is a massive .

Just goes to show that there are proper players playing in the local leagues, there just isn’t a pathway if you’re not either: in the Phoenix, or willing to move to a country on the other side of the world. Then, very rarely do the Phoenix sign the best non-academy local players, and the season they did (Payne, McCowatt, Hudson-Wihongi) was their best season yet.

Kind of gets rid of the notion that the national league here is crap. Sure, it's not world class football, but there's a lot of talent to be found if you look for it. This sort of stuff is brilliant to see.

Straight in the side and already making a difference. Kids got a bright future.

St Mirren have been in good form since he's come aboard, might even make it to the top half of the table for the championship round.

Finishes 2-1 St Mirren, and yes they are unbeaten in 2022 (7 games)! Greive with the winning goal. Full game & a yellow for good measure. Whirlwind few months for him!

St Mirren shoot up to 6th (top half) but it is very congested in those mid table spots.

5th round Scottish Cup tie against 4th tier (League Two) Kelty Hearts in a few days.

5th round Scottish Cup tie against 4th tier (League Two) Kelty Hearts in a few days.

Kelty Hearts won't be easy beats. Promoted from a stunted Football League campaign last season, won the Championship final (Highland v Lowland) and now top of League Two by 10 points with a game in hand. They also beat St Mirrens opponents from this morning and holders of the Scottish Cup - St Johnstone, in the last round 1-0 after extra time.

However, St Mirren will be at home for this one, and based on recent form, they should be too good.

Could be a good opportunity in that one for Grieve to start cementing a starting spot if he can add to his goal from this morning.

Yes some good humour there from Back(ayoko). And ironic in another comment a Scot complaining they couldn't understand a Kiwi, with the Queen's English.

Keen to see highlights of the goal, plus pen apparently he won.
