He's there now, no point Grieving about it, it was probably a NZF cockup.

The gap between the Old Firm clubs and the rest, remains as wide as ever. St Mirren drop to 4th

Greive the hero again. Off the bench at 79 mins, and scores winner 4 mins later for a 2-1 victory

Aussies galore in Scotland,
Strain & Baccus start for St Mirren
Aziz Behich for Dundee U, who also had Mark Birghitti on the bench

Maybe Behich can get the forgotten Joey Champness a Scottish gig

His numbers, despite not playing an exceptional amount of minutes this season, are very, very good.
IMG_20221023_142002.jpg 41.03 KB

I guess with numbers like that though, you run the risk of becoming the perennial super-sub type player whose sole role is to come on for an energetic 10-20 minute cameo and maybe nip a goal on the counter, or make something out of nothing while chasing a result.

All said and done though, whatever chances he does get, he is making the most of what comes his way. He leads the St Mirren goal scoring charts, and has a 50% conversion rate from shots he's had this season.

Get him in the starting XI more often and I believe we'll comfortably have a 10-15 goals per season player.

Enjoy reading their local forum and seems that many feel he is too lightweight to start and is a good impact player . Often talk about being easily pushed off the ball. It's a very physical league too so that can't be easy, but his impact has been very good as a sub.

I'm very selfish towards Kiwi footballers trying to forge their way in the game, especially those who will be the core of any AW's squad for the next decade or so.

Ayunga is their biggest and strongest option up top, but pretty much all other options - Brophy, Main, Kiltie are of a similar build, albeit with perhaps a few more kilos on the frame. Add to that they are far more familiar with the physicality of the Scottish game. Still think Greive has equipped himself very well at this level, and perhaps with more experience and time in the gym we'll see him getting more minutes under his belt.

Hibs with a 3-0 win. Boyle with a pen

Greive on at 70 mins (3-0). Bacchus & Strain both off at 73 mins

So St Mirren having a good season to date, but still well off the bigger clubs it seems

Greive starts and gets 75 mins (off at 1-1) in a 2-2 draw.

Saints conceded 2nd goal at 95 mins. St Johnstone were down to 10 men from 63 mins, so St Mirren (who's form has dropped off lately) won't be happy.

Ryan Strain (who missed Socceroos WC squad) a full game. Keanu Baccus who made Socceroos squad, not in match day squad.

Ryan McGowan (who was also bypassed by Arnie) a full game for St Johnstone.

Baccus & Strain both starting for St Mirren, but no Greive in match day squad

Edit - St Mirren won 3-1. Aberdeen down to ten men from 35 mins and all the Saints goals came after that. They also failed to convert a pen opportunity

From Flying Kiwis. Sympathies to Alex Greive. Rough stuff. Hold your loved ones close indeed.

"A five minute cameo at the end of a 0-0 draw away against Kilmarnock doesn’t sound like much. But this was a significant appearance for Greive as he returned to the pitch after missing the previous two matches following the passing of his father Richard, who himself was a prominent figure in Auckland football. Just awful news.

Sympathies with all the Greive clan at such a difficult time. Alex flew back to Aotearoa to be with the family prior to Christmas and therefore played no part of the 3-1 win over Aberdeen or the 1-1 draw away to Livingston. However that didn’t mean he was out of mind, with teammate Declan Gallagher specifically dedicating the win over Aberdeen to Alex Greive on behalf of the entire squad...

Declan Gallagher to Renfreswhire Live Sport: “Alex wasn’t involved in the Aberdeen game because he had to go back to New Zealand after his father passed away. That result was for him and all the boys wanted to let him know that. We wanted that one for him and it definitely gave us added motivation.

One thing the gaffer said to us before we went out there was to hold your loved ones close. There’s a boy who would love to be playing football, and who had a chance to start the game because he was flying, but because of those circumstances it’s not happened. He said to make sure we did it for Alex and that was important because we’re a close group. It’s good we could do it for him.

It’s very hard given how far away he is from his family. He’s maybe not seen his dad in a long time. At the end of the day he’s half the world away and won’t see his dad again. The boys are gutted for him. He wished us all the best before the Aberdeen game in our WhatsApp group which was amazing to see, he was still thinking of us. It’s obviously upsetting for him and we’re thinking of him.”

Went to Richards memorial service, may he RIP, a very good man. Alex was very brave and spoke of his influence on him becoming a footballer and man, despite Dad being a life time West Ham fan and the boys were not, and how his being able to be at Eden Park to see him debut for the All Whites was a moment that will live on forever in his memory. Photos of this special moment were shown, as Richard was not well at the time and that trip enabled Alex to get back to NZ to see him. He had to fly back the next day to Scotland and it was very hard imagining what he had been through that week and the weeks leading up to it.

Greive starts and gets 78 mins (1-1) in a 1-1 draw.

No Kuol but still Socceroos everywhere. Baccus & Strain started for St Mirren.
Strain with the Saints 4th min goal, but then off early at 18 mins.

Devlin 81 mins for Hearts. Also Nathaniel Atkinson an unused sub & Kye Knowles a full game for Hearts.

Anyone watch the game? Greive & Devlin two competitive, feisty characters.

Weirdly the same 2 teams play in the SPL next weekend, this time at Hearts.
