For all we know the NIX have already asked for that and more.

As you say, the outlay by Bournemouth is low, so they shouldn't say no... if they don't want it in there, it suggests the see real future value. In which case, up the fee.

I am wondering if with the chat about him going if other teams have come into play and started making offers.

It hasn't been officially confirmed yet, has it?

There is a bad combination here - a lowball price and a Foley club. One or the other would be acceptable, but not both.

Set the price high. What we think is over the top $10 Million for example is only 5 Million Pounds and there's plenty of average players moving amongst EPL sides for such sums. The club have to be careful not to undervalue its assets. They can always negotiate such fees. From what I am reading, $2 Million NZD plus add ons.

If Alex keeps progressing the way he is, I can see the day when a BIG club will pay 40 Million pounds or more without battering an eye lid. And good on the Lad for having such a natural talent and putting in the hard work.

Club has said that they are no loinger under-valueing their young players. I agree that Paulsen could well go for a lot more in a few years time, which wuld mean we'd be in line for some cut of that. I dount anyone in the aleague is getting $10m, the league is gonna end up being a development league for UK based clubs.

For context, Sydney’s Jake Girdwood-Reich just went for NZD$1.4 million to St. Louis in the MLS. Good young player but far less spectacular than Paulsen, and he’s off to a smaller league with far less financial power.

These addons better be non-problematic, and I trust we’ve negotiated a huge cut of any future sale/profit. In the slight chance we haven’t, this is extremely poor

I think we’re all worrying a bit much.

We don’t know the details, but on the other hand there have been suggestions we’ve dug in too much on other player negotiations and the deal hasn’t gone through or it’s unsettled the player.

There’s quite a good chance, this being our business model and all, that there are good compensation clauses for the club if Alex hits key milestones or gets a transfer.

You also have to look at the other side- goal keeping is a very competitive business. Look where Crocombe is plying his trade, where Marinovic and Paston played, and you can see that breaking into a Championship squad is much tougher for keepers than a versatile outfield player.

It might seem like a lowball, but it’s money in the bank when the TV payout is in jeopardy and potentially more future revenue.

Conversely, the club will go through a few changes next season. If Alex had ended up in a team with a few bad games it might have affected his value. Or the momentum of his career.

Not unhappy with it at all. I did think it might have been higher, but I think it’s good for the club to have runs on the board as it were.

Other thing to think about is the Nix have not been shy in placing release clauses into contracts to benefit the club. That’s the reason why Cameron Elliot apparently never signed as he thought his was too high.

Very good chance that the clause was in Alex,s and it was reached if not exceeded if there were three other clubs interested.

even better - the nix will get fat cash payments everytime he transfers during his career and he is a true nix product so not sharing with a zillion other clubs

Yeah I’m a bit surprised by the negativity (though not hugely surprised given we all love a whinge on this website lol). It’s a multimillion dollar deal, one of the club’s highest ever, at a time when half the league is broke. Can we all just chill out a bit.

So happy for this lad. He's a once in 10 years academy product. He'll do well in the English Premier League. With his ability, he should have been playing A-League football several years ago.
Can you imagine if Adelaide hadn't recognised Irankunda. I'd argue that AP is an even greater talent.

Sounds like a whole bunch of cope to be quite honest. The Jake Girdwood-Reich deal is proof positive the Nix have been swindled. Or maybe AP had a release clause inserted into his Nix contract?

care to tell us what the extras are since you clearly know we're being swindled? Or maybe even the transfer fee which hasn't been officially announced yet??

You're telling people to cope based on pure speculation... Most of this is all speculation so its pointless acting like you know we got swindled. Do you even know the specifics of the Girdwood-Reich deal?

i'm not telling people TO cope, I am saying that they ARE coping.

Though as you rightly point out I'm ignorant about the details, just throwing out my ill-informed perspective.

But you could very easily imagine a scenario where the add-ons are just tied to Bournemouth games played/matchday squad appearances, and he makes no more of a handful of those over his 3 year contract and leaves for free at the end of that, leaving the Nix with nothing extra.

Until we hear anything different, then as far as I'm concerned all the Nix are guaranteed is the initial fee and it quite simply not reflective of his value. If you had asked somebody a week ago the relative value of Paulsen & Girdwood-Reich, I'm sure a lot of people would have said Paulsen is worth 5x-10x as much.

Not sure how people think we are being swindled. 4 million is a lot of money at this level.

Sure, Paulsen's actual value may be much higher, but valuations for football players are based on salary and contract length as base and then a valuation premium based on ability/potential/speculation/etc.

4 million is a good chunk. Congrats to Alex, and wish him the best.
Paulsen is a higher up front fee & has add ons. There is no mention of any possible additional monies for JGR. Not sure how we are getting 'swindled'.

The club wouldn't be selling him if we weren't comfortable with the fee, he had plenty of time on his deal.

Goalkeepers in general don't have the highest transfer fees of the various positions, so hard to compare his deal with outfield players.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

All I'll say is that time will tell whether we actually see any of those add-ons.

Even with out the add ons - is decent business for a club that struggles to break even.

Cameron Elliot. Be interesting to see what colour card the Spelling Ref reaches for. Off, off, off, off

OK that's fair. Let's be honest, his extra height is also probably worth a few 100k

Until the A League as a whole starts producing more quality playes consistently (ones who move and are successful) we are not going to get big fees.

The A League is still a releatively new league, with little pedigree.

Good to see the Bournemouth press releases mention he'll be heading off to the olympics, one less thing for us all to stress out over.
Now let's hope he can hit the ground running and keep getting game time wherever it may be

Prof. After practices he always found time to talk to any fans that showed up. A genuinely humble, feet firmly on the ground, yet focused young man. Always a pleasure to chat to. I wish him all the very best.

The Nix players as a whole all seem to interview well, and are very open. Chief obviously as well. It's a credit to the club that they are as a rule very helpful with the journos. The media is most often your gateway to the fans. Of course it helps soo much coming off a successful season, with the media comment mostly positive. And to be fair Piney is a bit of a softie.

I've got a good mate who has been a NZ rugby journo for 20 plus years. He generally hates interviewing players & coaches. He's totally scathing. Guarded, taught by their media guard dogs to say fudge all. Arrogance that as the dominant sport in NZ, they barely need to try engage. Be interesting to see if break dancing Scott changes that.

Sorry off topic. Congrats AP.

Good to see it’s a 4 year deal. Thought the initial reports of three were strange given his age and potential.

More likely with that length that a fee paying transfer eventuates and the Nix get to clip the ticket again.

Let's hope he does a Libby and not a Singh then, otherwise it will end up a poor bit of business for the Nix. Only time will tell.

The other possibility to consider is that if the contract is worded so and Alex has one of those careers with keepers potentially lasting longer at the top level (touchwood!) then the Nix could be getting a piece of his transfers or new contracts for 20 years!
