I wasn't aware that he had a Kiwi mum and is therefore eligible for the All Whites. From this article, it sounds like we're sounding him out about a possible switch that would only benefit our striker stocks!

That article made me wonder whether it will have any impact that the direct qualifier from Oceania will be one of the first countries in the world to have officially qualified. That’s over a year to be searching for any players that come out of the woodwork as having a NZ-born grandma. Can’t do any harm.

Scored for the Jets in their win in the cup last night. Is he still being sounded out for a possible switch?

For sure. It was mentioned in a recent Stuff article that he could even be a bolter for the 2 Socceroos games in Sept.

Rather see Randell personally have another crack.

He might be keen simply for the fact they are friendlies and won't cap tie him either way.

Bazeley will have plenty of chances to check out Randall through the ALM season. He can probably drop into AFC trainings at Albany, plus get some feedback from his old ex Walsall team mates Hay & Corica over a coffee.

But he will know squat about Gibson, and likely be curious to see him up close in the flesh. BG is also an out & out striker, and we don't have so many of those at a good level.

Yeah would rather Gibson picked over Randall. Even though it wouldn't cap tie him it would show we're serious about him playing for us. We're definitely in need of more strikers in the pool to play for the All Whites as when Wood retires we're lacking options.

Got an assist and another goal tonight.

With Mata now confirmed to be out for the Socceroos matches and the uncertainty around Waine, it’s looking more and more likely he will be joining Wood and Kosta as our striking options.

Saying that though, Randall is making a serious case as well for a recall.

Just seen that Gibson got fouled while scoring his goal and had to go off injured, was limping as he made his way off the pitch, hopefully not too serious.

Well, that’s the end of that.

It doesn't prevent him from playing for NZ at a later date. Just if he turned down a NZ call up for the Aussie u23's, we are definitely the back up choice for him.

Well, that’s the end of that.

Unsure of the exact rules, but maybe not.

Gianni Stensess played at both the 2019 U20 WC and Tokyo Olympics (so U23) for NZ, before switching to Australia.

Joey Champness played for the Young Socceroos team at the 2016 AFC U-19 Championships. Later for Australia U23s, before switching to NZ.

I'm sure Gibson has looked into the FIFA rules, and sounds like that recently he was interested in playing for the AWs. Why not get some international experience with Australia, if he can switch back to NZ later.

Bazeley has been in contact with Gibson, who was born in Australia but is eligible to play for the All Whites as his mum was born in New Zealand.

“He’s another option that’s keen to be available,” Bazeley said. “At the moment, we just keep monitoring him.

“He's very young. Right now, he's probably not competing with Ben Waine and guys like that, but in two, three, four years’ time – what sort of player will he be?
