Yes hopefully nothing too serious. Jesse Randall might get his callup after all.
You can actually see McCowatt walk off at HT in these highlights. No apparent pain. He had to really slide and stretch to score his goal in the Danish autumn wet. Hammy twinge?
Lovely perfect arched pass from a team mate and McC gets it in at an acute angle. Silkebog in their away (white & black?) strip
Oh well better to test the depth now, than at the big dance next June.
Must be a Randall call up.
Bazeley might get to try out that diamond midfield of Bell-Stamenic-Thomas-Singh, with Just/Garbett alongside Waine/Barba. That's if Marko is in the right head space to play.
McCowatt a full game in a 0-0 draw. Soccerway gave him a Silkeborg team high 7.5 rating.
Izzo in goal for Randers who also had Mo Toure start. Two Socceroos standouts against the AWs in September. Playing alongside Mo Toure (age 21) was his younger brother Musa (20).
One more game before the winter break. Wonder if McC could be on the move in Jan?
Silkeborg IF: “As is tradition, the SIF Player of the Year was named at the big Christmas party for sponsors, volunteers, and others at JYSK park. And on Tuesday evening it was revealed that Callum McCowatt won the big honour. A lot of different SIF players received votes, and it was Tonni Adamsen and Nicolai Larsen who finished second and third respectively. Three votes separated Adamsen and Larsen… but Callum McCowatt won a landslide victory after securing well over half of all the votes for his many great performances in 2025! In addition to the honour, Callum McCowatt received a gift certificate of 5,000 DKK for Mr. Silkeborg. Congratulations on the title, Callum – and thank you to all of you who voted.”
Hey, how about that. Callum McCowatt was the landslide victor in voting for the club’s player of 2025. Bit odd to have a POY award that spans half of two different seasons but it worked out well for Call, who missed a lot of the 2024 portion of last season with injury but has been unstoppable since. By the way, Mr Silkeborg is a local menswear shop so expect the bro to be decked out next time he flies in for All Whites action.
Off the AW stats, and club leagues played in I'd say yes, Callan edges it.
McCowatt has carved out a very decent career now in Denmark. Won the Danish Cup with Silkeborg, been a losing finalist the following year. Played in Europe. 18 goals in 69 Superliga games. Not flashy. Some of his best work unnoticed. At 26 hopefully still has a higher ceiling.
AWs goals against Ireland and Sweden in 28 caps. Another 2 against the OFC minnows.
Kosta a career that never really got going in Russia and Greece, if yes an A League legend. 101 goals in 334 ALM matches.
AWs a solitary non OFC goal against El Salvador (13 years ago!) in 72 caps. 8 more goals in the OFC. One big one at Eden Park in March. He's scored more than Brockie in a white shirt but not that much more. That bad sending off against the Costa Ricans. He's done well to recover from that, and yes deserves to be in the WC squad, but McC is more of a lock in.
Callum is a fantastic Scottish name (Callan being Elliot. Another test??) as is McCowatt. But Kosta is fairly cool too and the chants with Barbarouses are legend.
I had forgotten the dump truck load of opportunities Kosta squandered against OFC opponents. Suppressed perhaps! But I think Kosta now perhaps in his late career flourish is perhaps as dangerous a player as he’s ever been. Tricky and more clinical than he’s been. Kosta has a truckload of A league trophies too! 3 Premierships, 4 Championships and an FFA cup. Is that a consideration? Hopefully McCowatt’s glory days are ahead of him in that regard.
I wonder if you could take one of them at the Nix just for the rest of the season?
Then of course too- and this is important for the World Cup I guess- we need to ask what we need to do to get more goals from McCowatt. Apart from playing mid and lower table Danish defenders more often! Can he replicate his scoring against Championship level defenders? What kinds of runs does he make and what service does he need? Can we have more flexibility in our formation, if we don’t have Wood?
Ah yes my bad, yes Callum not Callan. Elliot does have actual Scottish heritage.
Never heard any mention of McCowatt having a UK passport. But being a 28 cap international that wouldn't hold him back getting a Championship gig? More about whether he's seen as good enough or not by someone?

I’m just wondering whether the AWs should rearrange their plans around him if there’s no Woodsy. The Championship thing was because I was thinking that that’s probably the weakest level of defense we’d face in a World Cup.
Cameron Knowles is in to his work quickly it seems.
Minnesota United are interested in 26-year-old New Zealand winger Callum McCowatt, per @F_Abolhosseini. There’s already contacts made to Silkeborg about the player.
He's in career best form so far this season, but Silkeborg have been in a bit of a struggle towards the bottom of the Danish Superliga.
Am a bit on the fence with this one as I think he's got what it takes to really make a name for himself in Europe, but at the same time I really enjoy the MLS, and just selfishly, I find it a lot easier to watch given the timezones.
Either way, he's been flying over in Denmark, so am not surprised there is interest in his services.
Knowles would probably have spoken to Boxy as well. They would have played many AWs games together. Been in camp numerous times. I'm guessing MLS would be a bit of a step up from Denmark, and games might be a bit faster and more open. We are talking a summer league verus a Danish winter that can mean heavier pitches for a few months.
Though the MLS will soon be going split Autumn/Fall and Spring.
Bit of rebuild needed by Knowles. This from Niche Cache.
Tani Oluwaseyi left for Villarreal in Spain partway through last season and during the offseason they’ve lost a couple more key players with Robin Lod going to Chicago and Dayne St Clair to Inter Miami. They have made some encouraging signings to replace them but time will tell if they can be as effective for a team with playoff expectations.
Slight step up in global ranking if it goes ahead.IMG_9124.jpeg179.69 KBinteresting that both the Scottish premier (global ranking 32)!and English leauge 1 (global ranking 41) have shot up the list when before the Scot’s were 2 ahead of ALM and league 1 was right behind the ALM the ALM is still in a similar position still ranked 55 (Disclaimer this is just on the site I look at others could very well have different results)

Niche Cache. Superliga restarts this weekend.
Also going nowhere is Just’s old mate Callum McCowatt. There were reports in Denmark that Silkeborg had outright rejected several approaches for McCowatt – from Minnesota United, multiple clubs in Norway, and potentially others. Didn’t even entertain the possibility of selling him.
Firstly because they need him for the rest of this season and secondly because they expect his value to rise after the World Cup and would rather sell him then. That tells you that any sale would be less about McCowatt angling to move from a situation where he’s happy and thriving and much more about the club trying to cash in on an ‘asset’.
SIF sports manager Jesper Stüker: “Yes, [McCowatt is staying]. We have an important second half of the season and we need our profiles. And we need Callum, who scored many goals for us during the first half. There is also an expectation that he will play for New Zealand at the World Cup this summer, so if his value is going to rise through that then it is also better to wait until the World Cup is played.”

Wilkins sighting. He’s on at 78 mins (1-1) and McCowatt off at the same time
Soccerway gives Wilkins a 8.8 rating for his cameo
Maybe he won the pen that was converted at 84 mins for Sonders?? They win 2-1
Two games to go before the top 6/bottom 6 split and Silkeborg are 10th (3rd last) and they will be in the bottom 6. They ain't having a great season at all.
McC 67 mins (1-1) in a 2-1 loss No goals or assists in the 4 games post winter break
4 losses for Silkeborg.
They finish the H&A regular season 11th/2nd last, and now go into the bottom 6 series seeking to avoid relegation. Big guns FCK (7th) also join them in the bottom 6 split.
