Waine starts, but dragged at halftime.

Gotta remember he’s gone from the Phoenix to now getting starts in what is considered the 6th best league in the world. A career as a Championship striker is certainly a very respectable one!

Hardie (scored Plymouth’s goal late on) replaced Waine in his return from injury. Was 0-0 at HT. Finished 2-1 win Saints

And yipe all part of the learning experience for Waine. St Marys seats 32,000 so he’s getting to play in some biggest stadiums week in week out. Though with Hardie back, Ben’s mins will be limited again

Maybe came off early injured last time? Doesn’t make the bench for this game.

Not listed as injured on Soccerway. Pending loan move?

Was out with illness apparently.

Although it's hard not to think it could be something to do with a loan away from the club, especially so now that the window is open.

Hardie came off at 81 mins in this 3-3 draw, but Bundu (unused sub) the striker from Sierra Leone, didn't replace him. Welsh 17 yr old Freddy Issaka actually came on for Hardie. Game in freezing conditions.

Bundu's been back from injury for a few games now, but Waine's actually got more mins in those games. So Waineo maybe the no 2 striker now?? Bundu is a sometime Sierra Leone (SL) international, but SL didn't qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off this month.

Edit - Plymouth start full strength it seems. Hardie starts, Bundu & Waine on the pine.

Came on for Hardie at 77 mins (2-1) in a 3-1 win. Bundu an unused sub. So yeah Waineo seems to be the Pilgrims no 2 striker now

Midfielder/sometime striker Lewis Cundle (was on loan from Wolves) has now moved to Championship rivals Stoke City (1 spot below Plymouth). Might see Waine get more mins.

Ex Pilgrims coach Steven Schumacher bringing Cundle across to Stoke.

Waine on in the 87th min (1-1) for Hardie in a 1-1 draw. Bundu an unused sub, so seems Waineo is yes the 2nd striker now.

Came on in the 92nd min (3-1) for Hardie in an important 3-1 win. Plymouth 15th, 9 pts above the drop zone.

Hardie had a great game, 2 goals & the assist for 3rd goal. Bundu an unused sub.

Yipe Waine on for Hardie at 75 mins (1-0), as Plymouth win 1-0. They are 8 pts above the drop zone, so looking good to stay up.

Much easier to play high energy, entertaining football in 10 degrees, and zero humidity than the conditions of Brisbane in February.

😊 Crazy warm weather here right now for the Uk.

Helps the football greatly not playing on frozen pitches or snow. Almost as warm as Weli in summer 😉

Waine on for Hardie at 77 mins (2-1) but Pilgrims concede late at 96 mins for 2-2.

Plymouth still 8 pts clear of the relegation spots and a game in hand on teams in the drop zone. Next is hosting Leeds, with the 2 clubs knowing each other very well now after recent FA Cup tie that went to a replay.

22 yr old Waineo has had 674 mins from 30 Championship games (7 starts), so an average 22 mins per game. He's only missed 1 of Plymouth 31 matches. Respectable stuff in his first season in England's 2nd tier. Just the 2 league goals, but he often seems to come on with the Pilgrims trying to preserve a lead or draw, and if's he's that sole striker up front is not really his strong suit.

Different sort of players, and a teenage Chris Wood was already a big bodied man child, but in Wood's first Championship season with WBA as a 18 yr old he had 1 goal in 18 games (all starts). He then had a short 10 game scoreless stint with Barnsley in the same league at age 19. His first real success in The Championship was as a 20 year old with Birmingham City, 9 goals in 23 games.
And with his big breakthough season with Leeds in the same league (27 goals in 44 matches) he was age 25.

So will take a few seasons you feel to see how Waine goes in the UK.

Waineo gets a start. Be interesting to see how he goes leading the line, up against one of the biggest clubs in this league. Hardie gets a rest on the bench.

Get in, got coverage! Got a streaming service that features a couple of championship games each week and they’ve got this one. On board the Waine train!

Apparently Plymouth have a fairly good attacking record, equaled by a fairly miserable defensive record!

A soft goal for Leeds from Gnonto.
A couple of good touches from Waine, but possession is all Leeds. Could be a day living off scraps.

Watching this game with piqued interest to see what all the complaints are about from Plymouth fans about Waine (man, are they plentiful).

Talk about a scapegoat - every misplaced cross, every high ball, every loose touch is somehow Waine's fault. Shades of Rufer 18/19. Twitter in particular is a cesspit.

Had a decent game so far today, feeding off scraps

Plymouth fans with bad takes? Doesn’t seem likely…😁

Had a lively 10 minutes and was finally just getting into the game and he gets subbed. Don’t think Whittaker rates him much! Not seen him pass the ball to him, or celebrate together when there’s a goal or any such.

While not the finished article, definitely didn’t look out of place. Particularly with ball at feet he dropped deep and laid off to start an attack a number of times. Linked very well. Not as comfortable in the air holding up kick offs or winning possession. He pressed quite well from the front and they nearly created opportunities from his turnovers twice. He won a couple of free kicks.

Also not getting, in this game, much in the way of through ball to run on to or ball at feet facing forward. Miller seemed a bit wasteful in possession there at times.

Bit irritating to start to get going and get dragged, but nice to start.

So Waineo off at 60 mins (0-1) for Hardie in a 0-2 loss.

To put any onus on what another club’s fans think, you’d need to surmise that on here was a place of 100% rational thought, free of any player ‘hate’. That still happens with the Nix 1st, let alone 17th like Plymouth

I'm a Plymouth Argyle supporter and a long term resident in NZ and follow both Phoenix and Argyle. Obviously I like to keep tabs on how Ben Waine is doing in my home town club. These are some of the comments on the PASOTI website after yesterday's game against Leeds.
Waine had a decent game against two centre backs.
I haven't been a big Ben Waine fan but he put in a great shift.  8
Surprised to see Ben  start but thought he slogged his guts out. 8
Waine put in a decent shift and pressed well.
Waine turned in a gutsy performance.
He is winning over a lot of his critics apart from the idiots on twitter which is a dreadful advert for social media
I'm looking forward to the Nix game in a few hours time but I don't think it's going to be an easy one, my prediction is a draw.

You don't make it as a professional footballer without a thick skin.

Ben Waine is an excellent player. Still young. In the end he'll do very well in England.

In the B2B podcast, Chris Wood talks about his early time at I think it was Leeds, and regularly copping a gobful from some home fans walking off. Of course they all loved him by the end of his time there.

When the Woodsman signed for Burnley, I remember the dickhead Leeds supporter who signed up briefly here on the Forum, just to vent that Wood would never be good enough for the EPL.

I guess the abuse is often nasiest at strikers, because any error/miss they make during a game can really stand out.
