Killen is playing at the moment v hearts. looks like he started, has just gone halftime. highlights showed killen nearly scored with an attempted flick/kick in the 6 yard box.

If we build it, they will come...

appears Killen is going on loan to Blackpool. Anyone confirm that?

Check out this UK fans' forum for relevant info and discussion from Blackpool fans:

Seems just an unconfirmed rumour. Blackpool fans reckon their club could never afford Killen's wages. Fans seem positive about him: e.g. "Good player thou."

Just stuck this in the Hobbs thread as well.

Yesterday a PE teacher at my school told me about when Chris Killen came to him when he was working at Rongotai asking whether or not he should drop out before 7th form and pursue a career in the UK, the teacher convinced him to go for it and told him that if he was going to make a living out of fooball it wouldn't be in New Zealand. Killey wasn't 100% sure but did it anyway, and just like Nelsen, Elliot, Rufer etc he was one of the ones fortunate enough to succeed.
You know we belong together...

Came on in the 90th minute. Doesn't get too much later than that.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Does that make Killen the first Kiwi to play in the Europa League?

Considering the Europa league started this year then, yes.

Any updated rumours?  He surely must be planning to go on loan as his contract is up in the summer.  Dave Kitson is being linked with a move to Celtic which would push him further down the list.

The only thing I have read is that Strachan may be interested in takking him back to Boro.

Haven't heard anything on Killen, I am hoping he gets something in the Championship and starts getting some starts and goals.

Boro move looks increasingly likely - this from Mail OnLine - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1242376/Middlesbrough-close-1-6m-deal-Celtic-players-Kris-Boyd-signing-hit-hernia-operation-Rangers-star.html
And published just an hour ago in the Scotman ... "Willo Flood and Chris Killen are also close to a reunion with Strachan at the Riverside in what is an intriguing gamble by the under pressure former Celtic manager. Both are also expected to complete their transfers today, with Middlesbrough taking over the players' Celtic contracts. In Flood's case, this is for 18 months. Killen, meanwhile, had six months remaining at Parkhead."

Hopefully it works well for him, he needs game time.

Actually if anyone could light up the world cup for us...Hasn't really been hot for the All Whites yet, but that volley onto the post in the qualifier was close to real class. Fallon's head might have got us there, but Killen, Wood or Smeltz could have a moments of class to make this cup for us...

Boro fans dont want him either...and as a AW supporter Id rather he stayed at Celtic!  I tried to suggest Smeltz would be better but that did not go down well. Boro4eva2010-01-13 16:40:18

He's only signed on until June this year.

I think that was all the time he had left on his Celtic contract and Middlesbrough are to pay the remainder of that deal - wouldn't be surprised to see him in a Phoenix shirt come the start of next season.

Strachan didn't play him at Celtic - why would he play him at 'Boro - he should've stayed at Hibs - he probably would've been leading scorer of the SPL the last 3 seasons if he had.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Killen is on a free transfer and has officially signed with Middlesbrough.

http://msn.nzherald.co.nz/soccer-football/news/article.cfm?c_id=86&objectid=10620105

New Zealand striker Chris Killen is hoping to get more time on the field ahead of this year's World Cup soccer finals after signing with English Championship club Middlesbrough.

The 28-year-old, who had been with Scottish club Celtic, moved on a free transfer, with his contract running until the end of the season.

He told Radio Sport he was hoping the move would give him some game time ahead of June's World Cup.

"The way it was in Scotland, it didn't look like I was going to play for the rest of the season, so my thinking was I needed to get out and get playing. Luckily enough such a good club has offered an opportunity for me to go and play."

The move reunites Killen with former Celtic coach Gordon Strachan.

Celtic squad is a much more tougher club than the 'Boro squad so he should get some game-time.AllWhitebelievr2010-01-14 18:15:30

This may sound silly, but i always felt that if you got a low numbered shirt, you'll be more like to play.

He got 12 - he'll get game time, based on this uneducated view.

and why would he sign him if never planning to play him

See title of this thread as the case in point. - You'd could ask exactly the same thing on Strachans singing decision 2.5 years ago

ok then, why would you sign him a SECOND time if you didnt intend to play him?

i did read a comment by Killen's agent that he had wanted to understand Strachan's willingness to take him on (given their history) before signing - so hard to argue your view is not legitimate when Killen was also wondering

For me he was the one player in Wellington that looked like he could win it for us.

i also read comment from Killen's agent that Killen had sort of demanded some sort of guarantee (as much as such things exist) that he would get game time.

also read somewhere that Boro only really have one striker currently fit and aside from that have to rely on youth team players etc, so it looks quite good for Killen (maybe).

i think the championship is possibly the right level for him, and with Boro sitting mid table could be perfect.  then again, i remember having the same optimism a year ago when he joined Norwich.

Im not holding my breath for Killen to start and actually do anything.  I think the signings are more about maybe changing incumbents attitudes rather than bringing results.  Lita has blown hot once, Bent never, Kitson was good but only on loan so doesnt count.  We have no other strikers.

From an AWs perspective I hope he does get game time..Smeltz shodul be similarly looking.
