At the time Ifill had no deal in front of him other than us and Sterjovksi was the same (and I'm guessing being offered much, much more than $120k as a marquee) and proved by his inability to find a loan anywhere that he's not that good.

Culina made no sense to me, still doesn't.  He plays down to the level of the players around hom so coming back here was stupid.

The reality, though, is that Killen may have no deal in front of him either. Or at least not a particularly good one.

Ditto for Fallon.

Good point - it's not like Killen will be in high demand after failing at Celtic and Boro

Did he really fail at Boro.

Three goals is not a great return but he got a few assists aswell in a team which wasn't really scoring at all. In other words he did just aswell as McDonald who certainly wasn't a failure at Celtic and Lita.

I don't believe that he failed at Boro, and cannot see any point in him wanting to come back to play for the Nix... Has any1 heard about any plans for him as of next season? there was a point there talking about WBA and Nottingham being interested in him, has anything eventuated from that at all?

Not having your contract renewed after less than a year at the club + being ragged on by every boro fan is a failure in my eyesvaleo2010-05-06 19:23:19

he was always a short term solution at boro, hence the length of the contract he got.  There will be a major overhaul there now, so expect a number of players to go in and out.

In his career, Killie has done well at Oldham and Hibs, ok at boro, and not so well at Celtic (through lack of games).  He will be well worth a punt for a Championship or League 1 side, especially on a free, as long as his wage demands are realistic.  Both are better options for him and NZ than him playing for the Phoenix.

can see him maybe going to someone like Ipswich alongside Tommy and under Keane. I think that'd be cool.

Fair to say I wouldn't be gutted.

I like the idea of Ipswich being a little enclave.

Killen's contract at Boro has just expired with no word of an extension, so looks like he'll be looking for  a new club. Hope he signs for Kilmarnock only for the reason that it would allow for inventive news headlines like "Kiwi Killen of Killie" or "Killie Killen" or even "Kiwi Killen's Killer Kick" or "Killie's Killer Kiwi."

Recent Middlesbrough fans' opinions of Killen from the Middlesbrough Evening Gazette:

I hope Gordon Strachan does not offer Chris Killen a new Boro contract he's played 17 games and only scored 3 goals that is a poor record at championship leavel, he reminds of Emile Heskey does all the dirty work but scores a goal once in a blue moon.

Marvellous. Just what we need. A striker that works hard without seeing much of the ball.

Could it be?

Crystal Palace boss George Burley will field a mystery trialist - fresh from the World Cup - against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Eagles chief wants to keep the identity of the player secret until kick-off.

Ive got at least one international player who will play 45 minutes so we can have a look, said Burley. He did play in the World Cup so he is at a good standard.

"Ill hopefully have another one on trial for Chelsea too - it is ideal to see these people in match action.

That's a negative - strange though given the level he has played at - thought we'd at least be hearing stoires of him being trialled here and there.

Unfortunately not it was a slovenian international:

To be honest, the Boro extension hasn't looked likely for a wee while now.

If this info is true it would even a worst news than smeltz signing in china. But the problem is that the European transfer market is very weak this year...

Sounds like he can back out of the deal after 24 hours. To avoid a Smeltz like fiasco.
That may have passed.
Still not sure about this deal.

That's sufficiently credible to get posted on front page as news (with disclaimer of course).

Interesting, dont blame him if he managed to get a better offer financially that he would back in the UK.

Kinda confusing as Shenzen Red Diamonds doesnt exist when i search for it but Shenzen RUby FC has him listed on its Wiki page (for what that means). If so its the same club as vicelich which would perhaps make some sense.

Shenzen is very close to Hong Kong. So maybe his new wife got wind of the outlet store i visited on the way back from South Africa

From what I hear about the Chinese league it is corrupt as Robert Mugabe government. Though I could of heard wrong..

God I hope he knows what he's doing.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

I guess if this is true, this means that in a couple of years, if he still got it, Killen looks likely to wear the black and gold.

Not even Robert Mugabe is that corrupt.

I might pop over to Shenzhen sometime and check out a game if he has signed. He should be one of the better strikers in the CSL.

I understand that Shenzhen and Shanghai are the best places to go for foreigners because of the support and scenic looks. If Smeltz had a contract there, it would have been a good chance that he may have stayed. But thats my opinion. The rule of thumb is that the further south from Beijing, the less government corruption there is and more liberal they are but more capitalistic. Usually the best balanced deals would be in Shenzhen and Shanghai. But yeah, his physical presence should do damage in the CSL and he would have more game time especially against quicker and skillful players which would maybe help consolidate his foot skills.

So is anyone still saying that Smeltz is all about the money? The very thing I was shot down for saying on here only a couple of weeks ago...?

Went to Shenzen on a day trip from Hong Kong..1 hours ferry or 45 mins on train so close to shopping for Mrs K.  Very modern city from what I saw..nice parks, shopping areas and hotels.  Ratio of 7 women to one guy apparentl;y..grew from nothing in 20 years to like 11m pop I recall.  Handy to Macau etc...Could be fun  for a couple of years.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen
