There are FIFA regulations but if we enforced them Wood would be the only one to suffer. I'm pretty disapointed with the attitude from West Brom. I think putting young players in the position of leadership, that they will not be in for another few years, helps develop their game quite a bit. And you don't get a second chance at these.

Not knowing Chris I would be personally disappointed.

Its a Catch 22, go and put yourself on the World Stage or stay with your club to keep them happy.

Later in life what would he remember, he had an opportunity to go to an U20 World Cup but didnt take it.

Time to move to a Championship Team..

I can fully understand it from Wood's perspective. The club is paying his wages and holds the next few years of his career in their hands. He said he would like to play but put the decision in the clubs hands. With the new manager examining his players before buying new ones it's not a good time to be bolshy.

I don't think clubs have to release players for the U20 World Cup as it's not in the international window? Not sure but remember reading that somewhere.

I did read about a ouple of u20 players for England not going because their club wants them. So i don't think its just Woods getting a bad deal.

As for the other WBA boy, perhaps he isn't in Roys plans at all and thats why he was allowed to go.

I read they dont have to be released for this. Plus Ausssie also has some not there and having to stay with their clubs

Dissapointing though that in a preseason game he only got a few minutes when he would have had 90 for the U20's

you know that he played in the World Cup???

I imagine that when he looks back on his career later in life he will be thinking about 2010 and 2014 WCs (he will be injured during the 2018 WC, which is a shame for him), as well as the 86 goals in 115 international appearances, 2 FA Cup winners medals and the time he used his status as a premier league player to get a free meal at a Harvester as opposed to the fact that he didn't play in the 2011 Under 20 WC.

sh*t that's bad, stayed home from the U20s so that he could be loaned out to Peterborough.

Frankie, your logic is flawed, realistically he can only win trophys if he plays for  a certain 4 or 5 clubs in England.

I see the Baggies have signed West Ham target Shane Long from Reading.

Not good news for Woody if he had hoped to get some premier league minutes this season. Hopefully he can impress enough at Brum to earn a starting place.

I was pretty excited when I heard about him going to Birmingham. Yes they're not a massive club and they're struggling financially, but in the context of the Championship they're still a big club. Opportunity to play with some experienced strikers such as Zigic and King and is playing for a well-respected manager who obviously rates him reasonably highly. Sounds as though Birmingham will cash in on Jerome by the end of the month as well but as I understand it, they are keen to bring in at least one more striker and Wood is a stopgap until that happens. Good move though in my eyes, and depending on how much time he is getting, would like to see it extended to a 6 month loan and then reassessed then.

subbed in 68min had a couple of shots, 1 that went just over the crossbar. 1-0 win goal scored in 73min though which isn't good for him.

Reading a few match reports stating that Rooney made a real difference when he came on, including assisting the goal and that Wood shot 'carelessly wide'.

Birmingham drew 0-0 with Nacional in the away league of their Europa League qualifier. Wood played the full 90, hitting the post twice apparently.

Full 90...

Wood was also left cursing his luck a minute before the break when he hit the crossbar following a Beausejour free-kick.

The visitors carried that momentum into the second half and, inside two minutes of the restart, they hit the post yet again.

Redmond's drive from outside the box was parried by Elisson but Chris Burke picked up possession and his cross was headed onto the upright by Wood.

Wood then fired an effort across the face of goal before Nacional tried their luck with efforts from Mateus and Diego Barcelos, although neither troubled Boaz Myhill.

Highlights of Birmingham's Europa League qualifier from last week:

A Brummie mate of mine is chuffed at Chris playing for his side because of the resonation with another Chris Wood previously more famous in Birmingham, namely the rock star Chris Wood of Birmingham's greatest band Traffic (Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi etc.)
Chris Wood is apparently the one in the centre playing flute below. Damn fine band actually...
Chris Wood was also previously in Birmingham's first white ska group Locomotive who covered famous song "Rudy, a Message to You" 12 years before later Birmingham ska group the Specials.

Great result for  the Blues and fantastic to see Chris scoring!

The Telegraph describes both strikers Woods and Rooney as "profligate" and could have scored bags more apparently: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/europa-league/8723755/Birmingham-City-v-Nacional-Nathan-Redmond-sparks-easy-victory-in-Europa-League.html

Great achievement, I wonder whether his loan spell will be extended now that they have qualified for the main draw.

The one month deal always seemed a bit odd to me, but could make sense if there was an understanding that Europa qualification would make an extension possible?

Just a theory...

Wood scored another goal today vs watford!

And with the encounter looking set to finish 1-1, the hosts gave away possession in midfield and Beausejour set up Wood who finished clinically.

Yet there was still time for more late action as Taylor pounced with his close-range header to delight the home support.
