Birmingham manager Chris Hughton said: "Chris Wood is getting better with each game that he plays and each week that he is with us. We are very grateful to [parent club] West Brom.

"It is one that is working well both ways. We know the ability that he has got and he is able to do it on a regular basis now and we are delighted he is showing the form he is showing."

Chris now jumps to second-equal highest scorer in the Championship!!!

Bonus, that is.
But wouldn't be entirely surprises if gets rotated with all games coming up plus king and zigic needing game time.

And again, Wood the flavour of the day it seems:

stewiew_t on Twitter: "Chris Wood - First New Zealander to score a hat-trick in European football, I think."

Can anyone clear this up? Is Wood even the first New Zealander to score a hat-trick in English football? Ceri Evans only scored about three in total for Oxford Utd, so that rules him out.
As others have commented, Chris is far from being the first Kiwi to score a hat-trick in European or British football.
Lest we forget, Ivan Vicelich, usually thought of as a defensively-minded player, incredible though it may seem, once scored one in the Dutch First Div.:
NZ Herald, Nov. 2003:
Soccer: Vicelich scores a hat-trick

All Whites midfielder Ivan Vicelich scored a rare hat-trick in helping his Dutch club side Roda JC to a 5-1 home win over Ado Den Haag.

Vicelich opened the scoring after 17 minutes when he gathered an Edrissa Sonko header and blasted the ball beyond goalkeeper Rolan Janssen.

Cijs Cales equalised for the visitors a couple of minutes later, but Vicelich had the home side back in front before halftime.

Roda stretched their lead to 4-1 before Vicelich headed home an Erik Addo cross to complete his hat-trick a minute before time.

The win took them up to seventh place on the Dutch first division table.

Awesome the Birmingham- Braga Europa League game is on ESPN!!!

Hope this doesnt have too much impact on him / the club

"Birmingham City owner Carson Yeung, who has been charged with money-laundering in Hong Kong, has been denied permission to travel to Britain -- a day before his planned departure.

The High Court allowed a prosecution appeal and reversed a ruling made by the district court last month which had given Yeung, a former hairdresser, permission to leave Hong Kong.

The tycoon had planned to travel to Britain for four days from Thursday to attend to his duties at the debt-ridden football club, which was relegated from the Premiership last season.

Yeung, who was little known prior to his emergence in English football, took control of the club in October 2009 in an 81 million ($A126.24m) takeover from David Sullivan and David Gold, now the co-owners of West Ham.

The club's fortunes however have gone downhill. They were relegated from the Premiership three months after winning the League Cup amid financial troubles. "

I don't think he assisted the goal. The Birmingham City FC official website describes it as Chris Burke ran down the wing and crossed it past the keeper for King to tap in. Apart from noting him coming on as the weekend's hero, he didn't get a mention. Which means he didn't do many good or bad things.

Championship match away to Southhampton currently at beginning of second half:
Chris a starter up front with Marlon King; Birmingham down 3-0 at half-time
BUT- Chris has just scored in 48th minute from his free-kick!!!- score 1-3

77th min.- Southhampton score again- 1-4

87th min. Chris has good chance- keeper saves

All over- Southhampton win comfortably 4-1,
though Birmingham have twice as many shots on target...

I really hope in the January window that this becomes a permanent transfer. A couple of years in the championship would be great for his future before moving to the premiership

Auckland will rise once more

The funniest thing is there are a number of Birmingham supporters complaining that he's a donkey, is slow, not great with the ball and does nothing during a game but score goals (that's what  I thought a stirker did).

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini will name a much-changed team to the one that drew with Fulham on Sunday.

Owen Hargreaves is expected to make his first appearance for the club, while Stefan Savic and Costel Pantilimon are set to make their full debuts.

Carling Cup holders Birmingham may rest key players given the fixture congestion caused by their participation in the Europa League.

Striker Adam Rooney is expected to replace Marlon King in attack.

Why?
Yeah, I missed that- just saw in match preview from Birmingham Mail:
"but Chris Wood cannot play under the terms of his loan from Albion..."

Seems a bit pointless to stop a player appearing in a competition like this- it's standard to prevent loaned players appearing against their own club and that's understandable- but can't see the logic here...

Comment from  Birmingham Mail's football writer which indicates Woodsy may end up playing more of a supporting role off the bench soon with the newly fit Zigic and King the preferred striking partnership:

"With 23 minutes left, Zigic made his long awaited comeback for Blues, replacing Adam Rooney.

And the Wembley goalscorer got a great reception from the travelling Blues fans.

Looking in good nick and keen, Zigic's introduction heralded a shift to 4-4-2 by Blues, Beausejour going inside to support him.
Zigic's presence certainly gave Manchester something to think about.

From one Beausejour corner he speared a header from deep towards goal and David Murphy was not too far away from glancing it in, although he fouled Wayne Bridge in the process.

King then came on to partner Zigic - a pointer to the coming weeks, surely"

 http://www.birminghammail.net/birmingham-sport/birmingham-city-fc/birmingham-city-fc-news/2011/09/22/manchester-city-2-birmngham-city-0-colin-tattum-s-big-match-verdict-and-player-ratings-97319-29467526/2/#ixzz1YgBHC1D2

Beausejour is a good attacking player I remember seeing turn out for Chile in the World Cup last year and creates a lot of the Blues' goalscoring chances, including some of Chris'.

I would guess the logic is that since it's a short-term loan, and West Brom may be looking at having Wood back during the season, they probably think that he'd be able to get most game time in the Carling Cup for them, so they don't want him cup-tied.
