Wood one goal off being the league's top scorer, not bad given that he comes off the bench half the time!

5 goals in 7 games, 2 today and still some Birmingham supporters say he's rubbish : http://www.smallheathalliance.com/read.php?1,681354 .

I'd take a striker with that return any day, who cares that he's not the best passer, his job is to score and thats what he's doing. Good on the kid

"On the subject of Wood, Hughton confirmed that talks had started and would continue with West Brom with a view to hopefully extending his loan spell, which expires at midnight tonight."

The updates on that thread are fascinating reading. Got one guy arguing against Wood all day long, and others liking his record. Reminded me of some of the arguments we have had on this forum, and will have again soon, 5 days to go till A League kicks off

Has anyone ever noticed that when Wood scores, the Football League Show on Sky always manage to conveniently not show Birmingham highlights?

The Football League Show only shows coverage from sat games and so far most of Birmingham's games have been on Sundays.

Wood is a hoot. Apparently pulled out some ridiculous celebrations on weekend, including a 'z' for nz but apparently the Birmingham fans thought it was for 'zulu' which is their name for the extreme wing of the fan base - so they all loved it and went mental in the stand.

Yeah saw his goals and his celebrations - its a sign hes having fun and enjoying his football which is key for a young player.
Anyone know if the loan was extended. It officially ended after the Forest game and Hughton said he was working hard for an extension before he legally had to return to WBA. It would be good to see Birmingham get him for the season, at least then he'd have a chance at the golden boot.

He has said on Twitter West Brom and BCFC talking on Loan deal and decision expected in next 2 days. Hope the deal can be extended for him.

Great news,   Well done Chris

"New Zealand international striker Chris Wood - a man in red-hot form - will be staying with Blues until 5 January after his youth loan from West Bromwich Albion was extended.

Wood has scored no less than eight goals in eleven appearances for the club in his two months at St. Andrew's so far, including a brace in the 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

An undisclosed fee has been paid to West Brom to land the 19-year-old's services until the New Year.

And the Kiwi hotshot is over-the-moon to be at the club for a longer period.

Wood told bcfc.com: "I'm very pleased the loan has been extended. I've settled in really well here and all of the lads - who are a great bunch - have really taken to me.

"We are beginning to gel as a team and as a squad and I think that's starting to show in our performances and results.

"I'm very pleased to have scored the goals that I have but it's only the start. Together we have to keep putting in the performances and picking up the results to move up the league."

Blues manager Chris Hughton added that he is delighted Wood is staying amongst the ranks.

He explained: "We are delighted the loan has been extended as it's one that has worked very well for the player and for the club. This has continued our good working relationship with West Brom.

"Hopefully Chris can continue in the same vein as he has done so far."

Another goal for Birmingham, against Leicester City this time! Nice through ball from Marlon King and a little run around the keeper and a calm left foot finish into the empty net on the angle :)

EDIT: Subbed off in the 90th minute, to a great ovation, for Nikola Zigicjoshyboy0072011-10-17 03:01:54

Goal!! Chris Wood hits a very good left footed shot to the lower right corner from the left penalty area (aprox. 6 yards) and scores!! Birmingham now leads 2 - 0

Wood now joint top scorer in the league!

Good on ya Woodsy. Hughton seems to have a bit of a rotation policy going on atm. Hopefully he continues to start for them. They have some good striking options at the club atm.

Saw the goal on BBC (it was match of the day). Ran onto ball at good clip and finished past keeper very well.

great to see him banging them in.  Still needs to work on his all round game but you'll always find a gig if you can score goals at this level.

He must have moved ahead of Killen/Fallon in the AWs pecking order by now?  Very excited to see a front three of him, Marco and Kosta at the olympics

Normo's coming home

just scored a lovely last minute winner for Brummies at Bruges (in the 100th minute).  He will be a massive hero.  10 goals in the last 9 games now.
Top work son.

Only downside has been the curb crawler David Pleat going on about rugby every time Wood goes near the ball (and calling him Woods).
