"With Chris Wood’s hours in the air effectively counting out the New Zealand international – who only returned from unsucccesful World Cup duty on Friday morning – there was only one change to the Burnley side that had sent them into the break in winning style after back-to-back wins over Newcastle and Southampton."

Nice reflexes there and good game overall judging from the highlights.

Also, Burnley's second was a real cracker.

I'd really really really like to know, from the horses mouth, whether Chris Wood was injured for those games against Peru - because I just do not understand how if he could be back so quickly he wasn't worth risking for the biggest games in 4 years

Pretty sure he only played about 10 minutes in Burnley's two games before this, after his return. So he certainly wasn't rushed back into the side.

I think he's showing all his doubters that he is an EPL quality striker. Great servant of NZ football, and deserving of this break in the big time.

He didn't train at all in camp. Is that really not enough for you?

What possible reason would Hudson have of resting Wood unless he had to?

Remeber when all those Leeds fans said they would be better off without him and Burnley would be relegated. Good times.

Burnley are on a roll this season... and may end up being victims of their own success as players like Brady and Wood potentially get chased by bigger teams.

Always a possibility but not always an actuality. Who did Leicester lose? the one guy, a lot of the other mid level clubs don't lose too many to the big clubs do they?

Of course he was injured. Shaking his head with trainer during 2nd half warmups at Cake Tin. 20 hrs travelling to Lima wouldn’t have exactly helped a hammie niggle. The whole AWs setup would have been gutted he wasn’t fully fit. But that’s life and let’s not forget Peru didn’t have Guerrero their talisman at all.

Kante and Drinkwater. Basically the heart of the team during the EPL winning run. Aside from their coach, Burnley are in most danger of losing Brady and Cork. Possibly also Mee and Tarkowski if they end up playing for England. Can't see Wood going anywhere at this stage, hasn't had enough consistent game time yet.

Ian Wright was very complimentary of Wood on Match of the Day after the Bournemouth game, talking about his intelligent runs and good hold up play.

A quiet night for Wood, subbed in the 72nd minute as Burnley struggled to create anything meaningful after Robbie Brady was strechered from the field on about the half hour mark. Had a good chance to pull one back in the 15th minute as a cross managed to ricochet onto his shoulder, but was unable to get close enough control to put the ball into the net. Still looks the best of the big three strikers for Burnley, though Barnes was useful, Wood's replacement Vokes barely touched the ball.

A solid 90 minutes from Wood as Burnley comfortably beat a Watford side who were down to 10 men for most of the game. Best chance an attempted chip over Gomes from about 25 yards, didn't quite get enough on it though.

I watched the game. Was a mid-table six pointer and Watford probably a bit unlucky with the red card on 40 minutes. They were always going to struggle after that but still created a few chances. On the flip side Burnley were pretty good and could have had another couple. Wood was solid but jeez he struggles for service sometimes. They manage to murder lots of easy/easy-ish passes to him in good areas

Yeah he always seems likely though, so opposition teams have to be wary of him.Doubt is a good thing

The red card was a bit unlucky but players should know by now they can't dive in with two feet like that. Reffing was interesting though, both teams had decent penalty shouts denied. Also Wood had the ball in the back of the net after a dodgy offside call and I'm not convinced Barnes was offside for his goal either (the ball was played at by Watford and rebounded to him).

Burnley certainly miss Brady when it comes to service for the big strikers.

Denied the winner by a tight offside call. I think he's onside but easy to see why the linesman may have missed it.

There was a defender on the ground with his legs splayed out probably keeping Wood onside. With that said, he should have nailed the one-on-one chance with Matt Ryan. The amount of time he had to make the shot was staggering for the EPL, the commentators went on about good keeping but if you're going to chip the keeper surely you have to get the ball above about stomach height.

Must be very frustrating for Wood to have sustained that knee injury and missed so many games, just when he was getting into his stride and looking the part in the top flight. I certainly think Burnley are a better team with him up front.

Recieved a well earned upgrade in the FUT18 ratings refresh last week. Should appear for Burnley today, I'm sure it is no coincedence that Burnley's run of good form in the EPL ended when Wood left the field injured against Spurs in December last year. They have not won a game in his absence.

Brought on at half time and takes Burnley into the lead with a well taken header from a corner. Burnley have come from 0 - 1 behind since Wood has been on the field.
