No goals for Wood, but Burnley continue their great run since his return from injury with 2-1 win over Watford.

That’s 1 draw and 4 wins since his return. Last 3 wins have all been on the road.

Had the ball in the back of the net after a minute and a half from a rocket header but was judged to be offside (the right call, but was very tight!). Another good chance in the second half where he stood up his defender, dribbled past only for the keeper to smoother the shot well. Burnley ended up finishing the game (and scoring the 2 goals) with all three of their big strikers on the park.

I must admit I had my doubts, but Wood has really made his mark as a premier league striker now - as in, one who likely will last at the top level for many years, and not just score the odd goal off the bench. Burnley have been the team of the season, for me, considering their lack of resources.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I'm super happy, but he will have to keep scoring as teams adapt to him, throughout long seasons and avoid injury.

And has to keep the manager`s confidence.

But yeh so far so good

5 in 5 for Wood as his first shot is saved, but scores on the follow up in the 5th minute vs Leicester City.

Great stuff. Another goal and another Burney win. Finishes 2-1.

Wood subbed at 75 mins with score already 2-1.

Burnley look good for 7th spot and European action next season

"Possible" European action....Southampton have form as FA Cup giant killers ;-)

Yes who doesn't like a giant killing FA Cup winner. But a club that's 132 years old with one FA Cup win in their history, is hardly strong 'form'.

All gives extra spice/interest to last few weeks of the EPL season.

Wood's latest goal -

Interesting how similar his career stats are to Rufer's at the same age. Prior to the start of this season (aged 26) he had 86 league goals in England (all but 8 in the championship or EPL)

At 26 Rufer signed for Bremen having scored 92 league goals in Switzerland, which is probably slightly higher standard than the championship but certainly lower than the EPL. He then scored 10 in his first season in the Bundesliga - given how well Wood has done this year no reason to think he can't go on to carve out an even better career record, especially as Rufer left Bremen he was only 32.

Not suggesting Wood is a better player, just intrigued at the similarities of their records

Big kudos - to who ever spends considerable time to compile this blog.

Great weekly read. Not posted YF Forum last 2 weeks?

Good good video conference here with Woodsee. Obviously in a very happy place.

Looks very happy off the field too, his football playing partner seems to have a nice sense of humour, and grounded. Good for them.

If only he had been fully fit for Peru...............if only

Haha. A little, but he got 6 for the goal in the other game and only two off for that one! Plus the guy i'm up against lucked in with Brightons goalscorer too. Not much joy for me so far.

Plus I'd also like to see Burnley win and the og is tough on them

Edit: and that's finally done it I think. I had Barnesy but left him on the bench, whereas the other guys got him. Oh well, come on Burnley!

Burnley’s great winning streak is over.

http://hoofoot.com/?match=Burnley_1_-_2_Chelsea_2018_04_19

Chelsea win 2-1. Barnes Clarets goal. Woodsman subbed after 72 mins for Vokes.

Burnley still look good for that 7th spot and possible Euro action. They are 8 pts clear of Leicester, each team with 4 EPL games left.

Leicester only drew 0-0 home verus Saints at home.

Anyone see the game? Hows your Espanol?

Only game highlights I can find where Wood features at all.

A high cross to Barnes that he heads wide first half, and glimmer of a chance for Wood himself in early 2nd half, until Gary Cahill pokes out a foot.

Only 2 shots by Burnley all game - including Barnes lucky deflected goal. Though they almost split possession stakes with 48%.

Next Stoke away.

Chelsea dominated, Wood was feeding off scraps and definitely not his best game - lost a few aerial challenges. It was a bit like watching the All Whites tbh

Off topic but I had a decent week (with bench boost) - 105 and now ranked around 89k overall. Am top of my classic and head to head leagues in my first crack at FPL. Have had Wood and Burnley defenders for a fair amount of the season with great returns!

90 minutes for Wood last night in what wasn't his best game, not any real chances to speak of despite Burnley dominating possession for long spells in the second half.

Permalink Permalink

it wasn't really a game for chances though, too much at stake, defenders just hoofing it skywards if there was any threat. I thought Wood did well whenever he was involved.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Finishes 0-0. Wood subbed at 66 mins.

Subbed early due to injury - nasty cut on his foot.

Burnley get thumped 5-0 by Arsenal at Emirates.

Wood didn't play due to the badly cut foot, he got last week.

Wenger's last home game with The Gunners.

FYI - Wood's previous team Leeds final game in The Championship for the season, was a 2-0 win over QPR. Finished 13th, one spot below Ipswich.

10th EPL goal of the campaign for Wood as he instinctly helps the ball into the back of the net from 6 yards out.

Finishes 2-1 to Bournemouth with Wood subbed after 61 mins.

Apart from his injury what a great season he had. 10 goals incl a cracker at Wembley. Team qualifies for Europe.

Put the doubters to bed

Top goal scorer for the club... nice bonus probably.

Good considering he joined late, missed games through injury as well.

Burnley will disagree with you on that one. I think he's good enough to be a decent striker for a lower end premier league club.

Premier League clubs buy players who are not good enough for the top flight regularly.

He will get on the end of a few balls in and score a few, but ultimately don't think he is cut out technically for that level.

Also worth noting he is the same striker as Vokes, so offers nothing different to him up top, and is probably a lesser striker.

True, you would know more than Burnley about his skills. They just spent a record fee on a player who isn't good enough for the league they play on. Silly them.

We'll see in 6 months time. Fancy a wager on how many he'll score then pal? You sound confident.

Wish I had taken this wager

Fantastic season by Woods, considering his injuries

Apart from 3 Man City, 2 Arsenal, 1 Liverpool and 1 Spurs players, most goals per minute of any other player in the premiership

If he has an injury free season next year, he should become a 20 goal a season striker
