Haha, odd is one word for it. Leaving Wood unmarked on the far post was certainly bizarre.

Great ball, almost like a knuckle ball, no curve to beat the keeper, but get to the back post guy.

He moved just before the kick, training ground plan I'd say. The guy on the post was marking him, but then he moved just before and the guy stayed on the post, but it gave him freedom to attack the ball and bazinga!

Williams was standing about 2 metres in front of Wood, he took a little look to see where Wood was but didn't bother to get closer. I agree it was a great ball though.

I think Burnley are a better team with Wood up front and the results prove it. Pity that injury cost him so many games over the last couple of months.

I heard a quote from Woodsy that said Everton play a zone defence in that situation and he/they exploiuted it.

hopefully wood can see out the season. If he could snare 10 goals bearing in mind the time he has been out, that would be a sensational effort

He's been on the field 5 minutes and already has an assist and a goal!

Some ugly scenes with supporters at West Ham's stadium. I'm not sure what is going on though cos I have the volume muted.

Edit: There's been at least three pitch invasions so far. Some dude just ran onto the field with a corner flag and planted in on the half way line while everyone just stood around and watched. Bizarre.

And its a first premier league brace for Wood! West Ham are falling apart (again).

I guess there are worse clubs to support out there than the Nix! Pic subtitle may be a joke (I have no idea) but it did look pretty ugly.

Two goals, one assist, and Man of the Match in this game. Which makes three goals in two games. And in both he came on a substitute after a long layoff with that knee injury. Really showing he belongs in the IPL.

EPL. But yes he certainly belongs!

Helped today by West Ham imploding, on and off the pitch.

Whoops, of course, not IPL. :) And West Ham imploding is their problem, not his. He got chances and took them. That's all you can ask from any striker.

not sure of the stats but surely must be right up there in terms of minutes per goal this year in the premiership

158 minutes per goal. Better than:

Alexis Sanchez

Coutinho

Sadio Mane

Lacazette

Morata

Rooney

Mahrez

Hazard

Firmino

Vardy

Lukaku

Those are some pretty big names right there - all of them starting attackers for top 6 sides (bar Vardy and Rooney). Salah, Kane and Aguero lead the pack, all with less than 100 minutes per goal, so Wood's around the 7th or 8th mark for players with 5+ goals - but Wood does this in a significantly weaker team than anyone else near him in the list.

Another interesting stat would be how many point on average does Burnley win with and without him... in terms of impact on a team in that sense there can't be too many having as big of a say.

With or without Aguero Man City win, Burnley without Wood... not so likel.

Also last time I looked Burnleys defense was solid but their goals for were not that flash, so doing it in a side not renowned for attacking play

Really hope next season he can have a full season under his belt and if he can stay clear of injuries and keeps up his current form may well end up on the radar of a bigger club

LOL to those on this forum that said Chris was not an EPL striker.

He is done his apprenticip, he is in his mid twenties and has a great future. If he keeps banging in goals like this then it won't be long for bigger clubs come sniffing around. Who knows, if Man U need a Ibrahimovic type replacement then Wood is the right type. I personally think he s a better footballer than that donkey Lukaka. Wood lives off scraps at Burnley...imagine him in front of a really creative team(which counts our the current Man U side) .

Still its very early days and he still has some work to do to get to elite level but he is well on the way

One thing is to say that he's up to the EPL level, which I agree he is, but talking about how a bigger club like Man Utd could get him because he scored two goals in one match isn't a bit much?

Romelu "Lukaka" - Premier League Goals: 99, Age: 24

Chris Wood - Premier League Goals: 6, Age: 26.

I love Wood, and I think he's capable of bigger things. I don't think he's anywhere near on par with a guy who has scored 20 goals a season (in all comps) since he was 19.

Note: Used figures from Wikipedia so they're probably wrong, but close enough to prove my point

Lukuku is about 10x the player Wood is, cmon. Wood scores goals, and he's doing it well, but his all-round game is not up to top-level strikers.

It's great to see him doing well 'finally'. I think some people have the idea that the only route to being a successful EPL striker is to be a childhood prodigy who breaks through as a teenager, whereas for most it's years and years of hard graft before they get there. It's now 9 years since Wood made his EPL debut, can you believe that?!

One of those players who just somehow knows where to be at the right time. Uncanny.

Hope he keeps scoring for a long time!

Anyone know why he does the goal celebration where he holds his thumb and finger in a circle??

Wood's got 8 EPL goals but close enough and your point still stands. I think most people will agree that Wood will never be at the same level as the likes of Lukaku, Lacazette, Aubameyang, Kane or Aguero and scoring 20 or more goals a season in a top league. However I seriously think he can spend the remainder of his career in the next bracket down of solid double figures every year. I imagine he'd be pretty happy with that.

Though not related to real-life, I was watching one of the bigger Football Manager youtube streams the other night and they had simmed the EPL through to the end of the season with FM18 - much to the surprise of the streamer, FM had Chris Wood as the EPL golden boot with 24 goals for the current season...

Not sure if I made it clear that I was responding to Austin11's

"I personally think he s a better footballer than that donkey Lukaka.", probably needed some emoji thingee.

However, I do think that his all round game is certainly acceptable for EPL.

Several EPL players (S.Clucas, C.Austin, J.Stephens) have been investigated by the FA over the spying symbol celebration promoting sex videos shared on social media.

Disclaimer: I have not seen Woods celebration or have knowledge of what his intentions were - he could just be playing the "circle game"

"74 mins GOAL - West Brom 0-2 Burnley. Chris Wood

Chris Wood's initial effort is saved, but he's on hand to head in the rebound. He was possibly about to be subbed beforehand after labouring in front of goal earlier too."

WBA score late, but Burnley hang on for a 2-1 win.

Pattern now since Wood's return from injury. He plays, he scores, Burnley win. Wow he is on a run.

that I think is 8 in 18 games for Burnley.

That is fantastic considering he has only played 18 games and some of those were limited minutes.

If he could score two more this season and end up with 10 that would be awesome

Pretty cool stat released by HITC - Chris Wood’s officially the most accurate finisher in the Premier League. 69% of his shots have been on target, ahead of every single other player in the league.

Guess this rubs salt into the wounds of Leeds. They brought in four new strikers this season, who have only scored 12 goals between them, and ten of those are from a short term loanee.

Wood named in the starting XI against Watford, kicking off in 15 mins
