If I was a Burnley fan I wouldn’t get too excited about the club selling to an American investment firm. There has been quite a bit of American investment in European clubs in recent times. Some of it has been OK. But much of it has been poor. Often their motivations are purely as a financial investment. They don’t tend to understand European football culture. They are motivated by the huge money that some clubs make in selling players and the huge TV deals. Man U fans are not happy with their owners. They have used the club as a cash cow.

In France American investors have bought around half a dozen French clubs including Olympique Marseille and Bordeaux. The results have been very patchy. The new owners of the Bordeaux club Immediately sold nearly every sellable player and loaded the team with youngsters. The fans are furious. I don’t think the new Burnley owners are going to turn Burnley into the next Man City.

As an AS Roma supporter I would most definitely worry about something like this happening. James Pallotta & Co have done a real number on us

Burnley survive to beat MK Dons on pens (4-3) in the FA Cup 3rd round.

1-1 after ET.

Wood was subbed at 77 mins, with Clarets 0-1 down, and his replacement Vydra grabbed a very late 94th min equaliser.

Vydra later missed his pen only miss for Burnley, but they prevail.

80 mins in a 0-1 home loss to Man United.

Subbed off (for Vydra) before Barnes, which I don't think has happened for awhile. Clarets were down the goal when Woodsman came off.

Burnley 17th. Next up a trip to West Ham

Man U go top, 3 points clear of Liverpool.

Stockport County only lost to an 82nd minute goal from the hammers and County looked quite good. I'd slip a tenner on Burnley to win ;)

Subbed at 72 mins for J-Rod in a 0-1 loss at West Ham (9th).

Barnes subbed earlier for Vydra at 63 mins.

He's not playing so well unfortuantely. Definately looks a little down on confidence, passes aren't sticking, he isn't getting into the same dangerous areas as he always used to, no 50/50 foul decisions (when someone jumps on his back) are going his way. Most likely a temporary dip in form (for 1/3 of the season none-the-less), but I don't think Burnley fans have every really appreciated Chris and he is getting a lot of shark from the supporters. Still seems to have the backing of Dyche though, which is the important thing. You don't reach double figures 3 seasons in a row in the EPL by being a donkey, so I back Wood and his team to find a way through the goal-scoring drought. Crucially, its all 4 strikers that seem to be struggling right now, Wood is just the designated scapegoat it seems. Again Burnley played some good football at times, particulalry in the 1st half.

Burnley with a huge upset 1-0 win at Anfield. Though easier of course without rabid scouser fans in attendance.

First EPL home loss for Liverpool in 3 years, 9 months.

Barnes with the goal, a pen.

Full game Wood. Clarets up to 16th.

Anyone watch the game?

Yipe very soft. But Dyche has been moaning for years that Clarets never receive pens, and I think from memory the stats back that up, so maybe they were due a slice of good fortune.

Next up for Burnley FA Cup tie at Fulham.

I didn't watch it.

I thought Wood was usually the preferred pen taker over Barnes?

They have an agreement, where you win it you take it - at least for the strikers.

Go to the last min of the above 7 mins of highlights, and see Barnes wins the pen, but yeah very soft.

Unused sub in a 3-0 win at Fulham in the FA Cup. Barnes not in match day squad.

J-Rod (started with Vydra) with a brace.

No idea what sort of a lineup Fulham rolled out, but imagine both sides are concentrating more on EPL survival at the moment.

Bournemouth or Crawley Town in next round for Burnley.

Full game and 79th min winner as Burnley get up 3-2 over Villa.

Mee & McNeil with other goals.

J-Rod started up front with Wood. Barnes not in match day squad.

Wood's 4th EPL goal for the season.

Clarets stay 15th, but go 10 points clear of drop zone. That's unless Fulham pick up points at Brighton later today. Burnley were 1-2 down.

From the highlights a really good game. All Villa first half, then Burnley fight back.

Wood denied by a top save from Martinez earlier, but with a quality header grabs the winner. Go to about the 9 min mark of highlights, if whole 14 mins is a bit long.

Burnley goalscorer Chris Wood: “There was lots of action at both ends. They are a good side and we needed to come out after half-time with a bit more gusto.

"We got the equaliser and had grit and determination to come back again. It was fantastic from the lads.

“It’s all about character in our team and we’ve got an abundance of it. We like to show people what we are about and what Burnley are about.

“I’m just grateful the ball went in and it was a big three points for the guys. We’re always trying to build confidence as a side we just want to keep building and to go forward.”

Stoked for Wood to break his goal drought. Really nice header, and unlucky with the shot that was saved by Martinez.

He's been a bit of a scapegoat recently due to his goal drought and Burnley's lack of goals this season. Hopefully this goal kick starts his season (he's still top scorer for Burnley with 4 goals this season) and he has another 10-15+ goal season.

Subbed at 62 mins in a 2-0 loss at Chelsea (7th). Twitter says he picked up a 'knock' before coming off.

Clarets down 1-0 at that point.

Burnley 16th, 8 points ahead of the drop zone.

Next is Man City at home.

Edit - if like watching Chelsea, have a gander at the 10 min highlights. Not one Burnley sight of goal!

From this week's Flying Kiwis.

Sean Dyche: “[Wood] has got a niggle on his hamstring. I don't know how that's going to be yet. [Jay Rodriguez] has just come back after few weeks with a knee, so we had to be careful with another three-game week coming up.”

Hammy niggle sees him miss 0-2 home loss to Man City (1st).

No Barnes either, so Vydra & J-Rod start up front.

Burnley 16th, and still 8 points clear of drop zone (Fulham).

Next at home v Brighton.

Still injured, so misses a 1-1 home draw verus Brighton (15th).

Barnes & Vydra upfront for Burnley, who didn't make one sub the whole game.

Guðmundsson the goal.

Clarets 17th, stay 8 points clear of Fulham and drop zone.

From this weekend Burnley have a very important 3 game 1 week stretch of Palace (A), Fulham (H) and WBA (H).

Win say 2 of those 3 games (esp last 2), and they could almost lock in being safe from relegation.

They are currently 8 points clear of Fulham & 11 clear of WBA.

So understandable why Dyche rested so many players for Cup game.

Hopefully Wood is ready to go soon, from his hammy twinge.

Still sans Wood, Burnley with an excellent 3-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Scorers Guðmundsson, J-Rod & Lowton.

Now 11 points clear of the drop zone - though Fulham (3rd last) have a game in hand.

Actually is a 10 point gap now between bottom 3 (Sheffield U, WBA & Fulham), and the rest. Newcastle 4th bottom.

Burnley host Fulham & WBA in next 2 games. So good chance to lock in their EPL safety for next season.

Burnley (15th) a 1-1 home draw with Fulham (18th).

Wood still out. Barnes with the goal.

Clarets remain 8 points above the drop zone (Fulham).

Next WBA.

Still out with his hammy, as WBA hold Burnley (15th) to a 0-0 draw at Turf Moore.

Barnes also out.

WBA (19th) down to 10 men from 30 min mark.

Dyche will be disappointed with only two draws from home games, against lowly Albion & Fulham.

Next away at Spurs.

Returns from his hammy injury to get 20 mins off the bench in a 4-0 loss at Spurs (8th).

Same score when he came on.

Burnley 15th, 5 points above the drop zone.

Next Leicester at home.

Legend

Full game in a 1-1 draw with Leicester (3rd).

Vydra with the goal for Burnley, who only make one 92nd min sub all game (J-Rod on for Vydra).

In highlights below, from around 10 mins Wood is twice denied by excellent Schmeichel saves.

https://highlightsfootball.net/video/burnley-vs-le...

Clarets are 15th (29 pts), 6 points ahead of Fulham (18th - 23 pts) who occupy the last spot in relegation zone. WBA (17 pts) & Sheffield United (14 pts) both look toast.

So looks like Burnley just need to stay ahead of one of Fulham, Newcastle (17th) or Brighton (16th) - to avoid the drop.

Next a trip to Arsenal.

Not quite, but a 1-1 draw and Wood with Burnley's goal. Gimme that it was.
Clarets (15th) stretch gap to 7 points on Fulham.
Wood's 5th goal of the season. If he could get to 10 goals again (10 games left) - very decent effort considering he's missed a chunk of games, and Burnley have been pretty average this season.

Anyone else notice that Burnley have a very 'white' team. Nothing sinister just something, that dawned watching highlights of this game.
