Here is an article talking about Duncan Oughton situation with the Crew:

Because the Crew has so many players on its roster earning the Major League Soccer minimum salary of $40,000, the team's move to open a roster spot for French midfielder Leandre Griffit could be relatively painless.

Under new roster rules, MLS teams can carry 24 players, four of whom don't count against the main roster or the salary cap. Those four must be minimum-salary players or signed to Generation adidas deals.

A team would normally have to release one of the 20 players on the main roster to add a player such as Griffit. But the Crew might have as many as eight $40,000 players, including starting forward Steven Lenhart and veteran Duncan Oughton, so the team could cut one of its four low-cost protected players and move a $40,000 player off its main roster and into that spot

Hi,
I'm sure you have the wrong player because Dunc didn't go on the South American tour.  Duncan, my brother, has too much respect for NZ football to say that.  In fact, I flew up to Auckland to meet Dunc when he came back for last Christmas and Ricky was randomly on my flight - they had a good yarn at the airport and Ricky organised a coffee back in Wellington.
Duncs is going well and working hard for his spot in the All Whites and the Crew.  He made it into the Crew roster again and scored in their off week scrimmage so hopefully that helps his case for game day squad (Crew have strongest midfield in MLS this year though).  Other than that, he's stoked at all your support and gave the big thanks!
Cheers

Thats good to hear then Duncan seems like a true professional all the times I've talked to him, hopefully he can get a run up at the crew and then show Ricki why he should be playing for the All Whites.

I think what happened was the opposition picked the ball up but knocked it on, so crew were awarded a scrum.

something like that anyway?

Duncan was on the bench today, but didn't play but one of the defenders got a red so hopefully next week he might get the opportunity to show Ricki.

Actually it was danny O'rourke who was sent off and he is a defensive midfielder a place where ducan can also play

Its starting to get to the point where I'm doubting Duncan will make the team sadly. I feel he deserves the spot but he just hasn't had enough game time.

I still don't get how Mulligan is higher in the pile than him though.
You know we belong together...

Still, thats enough for Mulligan by all accounts.

And i'd argue training at the crew is better than playing NZFC football.

Still, if he had ashot i am sure he would have been looked at by now. I wonder if he will ask Ricki why not if he doesn't get selected. Would be a nice conversation to listen on to especially if a non starting NZFC player is given the nod in Scott

I guess the problem with Dunc is that as he is half away around the world, when you aren't playing then there is no way to judge this form etc.  If he was playing then you'd be able to get video tapes.  Same with plodder.

I would have to disagree, even with the limited game time the head coaches are more experienced and your still playing the odd game against other teams in the area like Ohio University.

What?

Think you just contradicted yourself CboZ.  TouchMe was saying Dunc > Mully/Scott.

I think Dunc has fallen out of consideration for a variety of reasons.  Age and lack of playing time are two of them, but not the only two.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Have to also question how Christie gets in ahead of him. Though it must have been a while since Ricki has seen him play.

I'm actually very pi**ed off. Herbert has made a terrible decision. I mean Plodder. Plodder is terrible.

Even if that happens i don't think it will be Oughton who gets the call up.

Here is a bit of Herberts insight for the selection:

No games and training with Columbus Crew < No games and training with the Phoenix.

How about no games MLS = No games A-League therefore judgement call on who suits the team best, who can fit in to the environment, who fills a role that the coach wants him to play...
